If you start missing Asian food while in Paris, check out this little hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant in Montmartre! The waiters are friendly and trilingual, they speak pretty good English too. My recommendation is Bobun + Nems, which is a bowl of rice vermicelli served with beef and spring rolls. It was 5 star worthy, yes it was that good! It was twice as more delicious than Pho! Pho was good but I was a bit disappointed that it didn't come with mint leaves and raw bean sprouts which I'm accustomed to. It was too plain for me but you might like it. As for the dessert, my curiosity made me order fried pineapple which sounded very intriguing. It was an interesting concept but after trying it I came to a conclusion that certain things aren't meant to be fried. This was a little gem found by my travel buddies as we were walking home from the Moulin Rouge area. It was a random pick but I was definitely not dissapointed. First impressions: I spoke Vietnamese and English but no French, and our hostess spoke Vietnamese and French but no English. It was amazing to use Vietnamese in France (we were lucky to have my roommate on the trip, who is half French and speaks the language fluently. We were pretty spoiled on this trip since he's likeable and has the gift of gab!). I ordered for everyone in Vietnamese and even had a convo with the servers. It's family owned and the food and service was very well done. The pho tai was different from what we get in the states... The flavor was a bit lighter (maybe they went easier on the fish sauce since the French may not be that big of a fan of fish sauce), the cut of meat was different, not as thin. All the right herbs were available, which is pretty amazing since I didn't see not one Asian restaurant (how did they get all those ingredients?!). The beignets were delightful... They put a spin on it by putting (grilled?) pineapples in it. It made it a bit too sweet for my tastes. The che was also way too sweet. I'm used to the traditional Vietnamese ches which have red beans, or coconut milk, or other Vietnamese ingredients. I guess this is the French version? Too sweet and too much. I wasn't a fan. Verdict: I recommend it for our Frenchies since it's the best example of Vietnamese cuisine they have in France... But I prefer the Vietnamese food you find in Orange County Cali... The largest ethnic enclave of Vietnamese people in America and the largest population of Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam. Houston's Vietnamese ethnic enclave comes a close second. read more

First time visiting Paris in the winter didn't prepare me for the cold I was going to endure - so definitely had a craving for pho. We came to this place on a Tuesday night and walked into the establishment - not one table had people but our server proceeded to ask us if we had a reservation like he wasn't going to seat us if we didn't. After getting seated, the server proceeded to talk and joke rather loudly with his friends and coworker instead of servicing us - about 7 minutes into it we had to just shout our order to him so he would take it down. The bowl of pho we received was OK at best. Broth was a little off and hated that there was ginger in there and had very little amount of noodles - not to mention this place was more expensive due to the neighborhood than what regular priced Vietnamese food is. Honestly, I'd skip this place. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food that's DELICIOUS, you're better off going to the 13th district where they all specialize in it. Le Dan Bau was so good that once I got home, I had to write a review for them. The nem was perfect with the dipping sauce. The pho bo had a taste of ginger which i've never even thought would taste good with pho. You can also tell that they use fresh meat for the pho. The dessert I had was a contemporary version of che, and i absolutely enjoyed it! I was so impressed at how they presented it and put the flavors together. Everyone should try the dessert with exotic fruits and coconut milk! The prices are a bit more on the expensive side (9-14 euros for a dish) but i would pay for it again to try their other dishes (and this is coming from a really cheap person who usually rates down because of expensive prices). As we started our first venture in Paris, we were hungry for some Asian food that will suit our hungry tummy. As we searched for good ol' pho, this place was on top of our search list. As this was the closest to our place, we marched right to this place to satisfy our hungry tummy. As we walked right in, we were asked for how many people and when we said five (5), and we were quickly turned away. This really dismayed all my group as this should of been our first meal here in Paris. First of all, don't read too much into Betsy's review. The portions didn't seem small to me AT ALL. In fact, the pho is listed on the menu as a starter, but I wish I had only ordered just that because I was too full to eat my main course! It is smaller than maybe the giant bowls you sometimes see at Vietnamese places, but is definitely enough to make a meal out of. Maybe she was just extremely hungry and should have had her own bowl, but don't go here under pretense that portions are small. For my main plate I ordered the bo bun + nems. The server came out and mixed it and finished it right at the table which was a nice touch. It was really good, but I wish I could have enjoyed it more as I was really full from the pho, so I could barely eat half of it! (By the way, it was also a nice sized portion). Maybe Betsy was expecting some sort of Chinese buffet so I will give her the benefit of the doubt. Finally, we went at 7 on a Saturday night and had no problem getting a table. I noticed one table was reserved, but they didn't seem to be turning people away. I don't know if reservations are recommended, but we didn't make one and had no issues. For those who don't speak much french, their menu is both in french and English and the waiter had no problem speaking English. From the outside, this restaurant is not an obvious choice: located in a touristy area of Montmartre, it even has its menu in English as well as French. However, once inside you'll appreciate that this is not another tourist trap but a great place for Vietnamese food. The warm welcome is a nice start, and service remained friendly and good throughout my meal. The prices are very reasonable, and I had the set lunch which is a real bargain, with a choice of dishes. The food itself was very good, tasty and freshly-prepared: a world away from the dull sandwich the same money would have bought me a little further up the hill. Had the restaurant not been recommended to me, I would probably not have tried it. However, I'm very glad I did: this was one of the best-value lunches I had in Paris. I went here with my wife and 2 kids on a Saturday night. We didn't have reservations but they seated us right away. Small place and it quickly became crowded. We saw several groups turned away. My kids ordered the 4 course dinners consisting of a choice of appetizer, steamed dumplings, choice of entree and choice of dessert. My wife ordered pho, and I ordered vermicelli. Everything was fantastic. The Pho is different from what we were used to in the US and my wife really liked this version, including the fresh ginger. Vermicelli was good as well. Kids loved their dinners consisting of spring rolls wrapped in lettuce and chicken curry. Service was understandably slower because our server seemed to be taking care of all of the tables in the restaurant. But he was very pleasant and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Sometimes....almost all the time...when the weather is cold and rainy, you just want a warm, Asian soup. A friend studying at Le Cordon Bleu raved about the clarified broth and quality of meat here, and we just loved the neighborhood so much we wanted to go back. It's a small, charming restaurant but we got there on a weeknight right at opening at 7pm so we were the first to get seated. By the time we left, it had filled up. One thing to know is not to expect the pho to be like the large portions you get in the States. Though the portions are smaller and more expensive, you are getting better quality and you're left wondering if this is what real pho is supposed to taste like. Be sure to get the Bowl of "Red River" dessert. It's a tall glass of passion fruit ice cream, mango, coconut, exotic fruits and sake. The food was great, but the portions were way too small. I shared the Pho, Coconut Shrimp, Curry Chicken, Fried Pineapple, and the Apple Donut Flambé and it still wasn't enough food for two people. I know that sounds ridiculous, but the portions are pretty small. Pho - had great depth of flavor Curry Chicken - amazing ,would definitely get it again Shrimp - the sauce was AMAZING, wish I could have had it as a soup Fried Pineapple - looked pretty, but could have made it myself Donut flambé - not crispy and very limp and sad and the caramel was burnt Definitely make a reservation because they're sticklers about that. Having grown up in San Francisco with really superb Vietnamese food, I was wary of this restaurant. Wanting something lighter in fare due to the sudden humidity, we turned to Yelp. Ordered the papaya salad (needed lime and heat) and the two vermicelli bowls. I could have used a bit more fish sauce but the lack thereof was actually a nice surprise. The taste deepened as the noodles soaked up the sauce. I also loved that the waiter constructed the bowl for me! Also ordered the mango/banana house special--a really. Ice and sweet smoothie. Unsure if the open tables were reserved for parties but we were immediately turned away after asking for a table for 5 people. At first I didn't think large parties were welcomed but there was a party of 6 sitting in front of us. When asked how long the wait would be- the host responded "an hour." After agreeing to wait an hour, the host then said "no." I went on to inform the host again that we were willing to wait the hour to get a table but one could immediately get the sense we were not wanted and unwelcomed there. After making our way out the door, the host quickly followed behind us- only to shut the door on us on our way out. I would rather spend my money where I am respected not only as a customer, but as a person. read more

This was the worst place ever!! if I could give it a zero I would. I went to Paris in February with my boyfriend. After a long day walking around we were looking for restaurants that were vegetarian friendly and we came across this restaurant. We went in and the waiter told us that we couldn't sit because the restaurant was "full" and escorted us out however, there were several tables empty. What a pleasant surprise to find this wonderful treasure here in Montmartre! With all of the restaurants here in one of the most touristic places in Paris, here is a gem that if you are a fan of good Asian food, you must try. Some of the reviews state that the portions are on the small side, well this is France. A good restaurant here is more interested in giving you a serving of something well prepared, visually stimulating and appealing to your palate. This place does it for me. We visited on our fourth night in Paris. Very small - about 26 people. We arrived fifteen minutes after opening and we're lucky to get a table - most were reserved. Everything was excellent. The Pho was delicious - less lemongrass and sweeter beef broth than in the U.S., very flavorful aromatics. Spicy shrimp with mushrooms was great, as was the duck in spicy sauce.
