I found this place on Yelp while waiting in line to get to the Catacombs. It's a bit of a walk, but it's worth it, especially if you're just visiting. I ordered their grilled rib steak with fries and it was so goood. I had steak in another cafe in Bastille and it was bland. I had this notion that the French knew how to cook steak, but alas not all French cafes are the same. Anyway, the steak came with a blue cheese sauce which was ok, but to be quite frank the steak was cooked to perfection that it was unnecessary. The fries were ok, they were crisp but slightly bland. I added extra salt and pepper to remedy that and it was all gravy. Washed it down with a big glass of Edelweiss left feeling like a million bucks. The service was also great. Our best meal in Paris all week! After touring the Catacombs we were hungry and not sure where to eat. As we chatted about it not far from the Catacombs, the owner/manager (I am sorry that I didn't ask his name) of Le Comptoir highly encouraged us to give his restaurant a try, showing us the daily specials on the chalkboard and speaking English (without being rude to us as we have experienced in other Paris restaurants). He bragged about his 4 1/2 stars and now we know why! We each had the daily special - we were encouraged for one of us to order the starter and main while the other could order the main and dessert and we could share the starter and dessert. This was a perfect arrangement! The starter was a lovely poached egg with hollanadaise sauce along with spinach, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. The flavor was full and satisfying. Our main dishes were the roast chicken - just the right sized portion, full of flavor with broccoli ricotta puree and accompanied by a salad. The table next to us had Frites (French Fries) so of course we had to have a side of them as well and they did not disappoint. As our waiter said, "these are the real French Fries!" Our dessert was a decadent white chocolate mousse with coconut topped with crumbled Oreos. The food had so much thought and care put into it and was reasonably priced; it was no wonder that they were full of locals. If you are visiting the Catacombs in Paris, please do not hesitate to try this restaurant. They are the real thing! The ultimate in Parisian cafe hospitality. read more

If I could rate this 0 stars I would. We were treated extremely poorly. First we were ignored for over 5 minutes. Then when we decided only to stay for a drink (because it was only when we got up to leave that they came over to serve us) they shunned us. The waitress was extremely rude and abrasive. Stayed near le Comptoir for a week while teaching a class. Had lunch, dinner, drinks several times over the week. A very pleasant vibe; the owners and waiters were extremely sympa and helpful. Had super delicious goat cheese salad and several small plates during the week. All very tasty and filling. On a scorching hot day had a great tasting monitor. The owner of this place is really exceptional , went there yesterday on my trip to Paris(I'm an American) and I thought the food was pretty good. The Croque-Monsieur was alright but the service is what made us come back later in the night. It's also the fact that they had free wifi, which is always a plus in my very humble opinion. Also tried the duck after downing two bottles of 20€ Rosé but I don't quite remember how good it was, but yeah the service there is awesome so go give it a try! Walked in after touring the Paris Catacombs and had a great lunch with a nice bottle of wine. Nothing fancy but very well prepared, a bottle of Cotes de Rhone, and very nice service, particularly for us coming in mid-afternoon. Although I'd rather keep this place a secret, the owners were so sweet and the food so good that I have to write a 5-star review. First of all, the restaurant is literally across the street from the Catacomb exit and is cozy on a cold night. We were welcomed right in and had great service the whole evening. The food is very vegetarian friendly (the homemade veggie patty is amazing) and the salmon was the best we had in Paris. The owners are incredibly kind and speak great English (there's also an English menu) and even showed us exactly how to get back to our hotel. First of all, my wife and I expected this to be a tourist trap since it was immediately outside of the catacombs exit, so we almost never went in. However, a man (whom i think must be the owner) saw us talking and came out to greet us. He was very friendly and explained their family based restaurant to us. We explained that we had French food the night before and he happily explained where all the good non-french restaurants were in the area. After eating dinner elsewhere we came here for dessert. I found myself wishing we had eaten dinner here because all the food looked and smelled amazing. For dessert, we had the lavender infused crème brulee and a passion fruit charlotte. They were both perfect. Also, the man who greeted us before was walking through the restaurant having conversations with everyone and being very friendly. He even explained the best way to get back to the subway as we were leaving. We would definitely return. read more

My family was looking for a classic French restaurant...the waitresses were very helpful. Reason for 2 stars: The wine selection was very good and reasonably priced and my gnocchi was delicious. However, we were given our dinner much later than most parties sitting around us, every time we ordered a meal they were "out of it" however we're still serving it to the parties next to us that came in after us. They were out of snails, chicken, and salmon much to our dismay. My dad got a burger and the bun was soggy and had to send it back to be cooked more (even after he ordered it well done), my brother got steak that was very tough and chewy-it didn't have much flavor. This pleasant-looking establishment in a quiet neighborhood appeared to be just the ticket for a lovely evening gathering with friends and family. The menu was compact but predictable in content, and the wine list was short but workable. We ordered a bottle of red, and, trusting as I am, allowed the waiter to open it and pour me a taste. It suited me and my colleagues (although far too warm in temperature): so far so good. But then I took a close look at the bottle: our waiter had quickly and skillfully opened and poured a more expensive bottle than that which we had ordered. Sure, I should have looked before he opened it, and maybe it was an honest mistake, but I was suspicious. Then we all ordered food, including a large platter of mixed cheeses and charcuterie as well as entrées. The cheese and meat platter arrived and was generous in size and consisted of excellent products all around. But then the evening took a turn for the worse. We waited for over an hour for our entrées to arrive (we patiently tolerated the extensive delay, since it was a lovely evening, and conversation was enjoyable); when they came, serious errors were evident, including two plates of steak that varied significantly in size and were quite unappealing in presentation. And our very clear request to replace potatoes with another vegetable (noted by our waiter at ordering) was ignored. So, after the long delay and disappointing plates of food, I boldly set about to complain to the restaurant staff, after which new steak platters were offered, large in size but under-seasoned and unappealingly presented. I had a long chat with the pleasant worker behind the bar, suggesting that we were poorly treated due to our obvious non-French citizenship. She denied the accusation, and an interesting and productive conversation ensued, a higher point of the evening. In the end, though, Paris is filled to the brim with bistros and lovely sidewalk cafés of all sorts; Le Comptoir is one to avoid. read more
