This restaurant has been around since the beginning of time (actually, since 2005). It is a neighborhood staple and a nice place to get good food. This is not a Michelin-star restaurant, but it's still nice with good food. The service was good, and they accommodated my gluten-free needs without any French snobbery.

I came here for New Years Eve with some friends after it has been highly recommended. However, I was woefully disappointed with the menu that night. The restaurant had sent out a holiday prix fixe menu in emails that included swordfish, my friend's favorite dish. We called the restaurant that afternoon to confirm it was indeed available and they said yes. We confirmed our reservation and were super excited. Once we arrived there was some confusion as the fish listed on the menu was different, but we were assured she could still get the swordfish. Well..... guess what? They brought out a different fish and I guess just hoped she wouldn't notice? It was really bad. She sent it back and they made her a Croque Monsieur, but it was cold in the center as they rushed the cooking (not raw, just cold ham). The food we did order and get was very nice. Servers were friendly and very French. We ordered a bottle of sparkling rose and they did a nice job of refilling our glasses of wine and water throughout the meal. Ambiance is reminiscent of cafes in Paris. We were there early on NYE (5pm reservation) so the place was still warming up, but the space is cozy and a bit tight when it's full. I so wanted to love my dinner here, but not telling the truth about the type of fish you're serving is pretty unforgivable. I might try them again, but I won't be ordering the fish.

First time at Le Chat Noir a French Restaurant in Washington, D.C. I ordered the following from the brunch special at $33.95: -1 mimosa -Poached Eggs Norvegienne with smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce with French fries. -Nutella crepe The Nutella crepe was my favorite from the menu. The poached eggs were a bit runny, but the French fries were nice and crispy. The restaurant doesn't have a kids menu but you can order a La carte. Happy Yelping :)

Always love this restaurant. Very cozy, everyone is very friendly, they will try to accommodate any request. Food is always beautiful and delicious, the sauces and dressings are perfect and add that extra touch to make the food stand out. So hard not to finish my entire plate.

Very tasty! Better than that other famous overhyped french spot in DC in my opinion...

First off--cutest branding, sign and exterior decor (crazy cat lady here). Le Chat Noir and I have a special relationship. I come here when I need to study--I attend Capital Wine School courses around the corner. Le Chat Noir is quiet, quaint and quirky. The staff is quick, kind and always gives me the rundown on what's new and recommended. My absolute favorites are the escargots (pairs well with Champagne), Moules Mariniere (pairs well with a Chardonnay), and their cheese selection (grab a full bodied red and indulge)!

How have I managed to live in the DMV area this long, eaten at what I thought were some of the top…read moreFrench restaurants and only now discovered the pleasure of dining at La Ferme? I am still scratching my head on that one. It pretty much started in the lobby while I was waiting to be seated, but was definitely confirmed after I spotted the sautéed calf liver with caramelized onion on the menu. That transported me back to my two years living in Paris, where I first discovered it prepared in what I have since called the 'French way' - meaning with onions and typically a touch of something sweet. As a child, I absolutely hated liver which my mother also made with onions, but it tasted NOTHING like what I discovered living in France. And after years of dining at restaurants throughout the DMV, I can't say I recall that seeing it on the menu. I'd been experimenting with preparing it myself, imitating the recipe. At La Ferme, I started with the mesclun greens salad and shared the cassolette of snails and wild mushrooms Provençale. The salad was what one would expect (deliciously fresh) and while the cassoulet wasn't bad, it didn't exactly make my taste buds joyful, either. I feel like I may just go with La Ferme's classic escargots next time. And yes, I'm hoping there will be MANY next times. As I jokingly (but seriously) told the staff, I'll need to work my way through the menu, especially after that soufflé. Seriously, what could I possibly say that hasn't already been said or written about it, other than simply ORDER IT?! It is a delight for the senses--beautiful, sweet, but not too sweet, warm, comforting, and so darned delicious. I savored every spoonful as though it were my last. We also ordered the veal scaloppini with lemon and capers. Another winner!! The service? Well, once I got on their radar, it was phenomenal. The beginning was a little curious, though. Upon entering, I was surprised by how long I stood waiting before anyone appeared to greet me. But also funny enough, while standing in the entryway, I told myself--based solely on the décor (all those roosters?) that 'they make a very good cassoulet here'. So I WILL be back for the traditional dish. I also absolutely intend to return for the French onion soup (another favorite). I couldn't help but peep a few passing by our table. La Ferme, where have you been all my DMV life? Or perhaps the better question is, where have I been?

La Ferme, please don't ever change!…read more So far, it hasn't. The decor is French country, think Pierre Deux and a ceramic rooster greeting you by the door. The food is great; not surprisingly a traditional menu filled with things like trout amandine. But it has the best burger in town and perfect salads. It's really the service that is special. The owner comes around to chat and talk about his kids. You sit down, order a drink, and get fresh warm bread and butter delivered from a basket. Love the desserts. Can't go wrong! Whenever I'm feeling nostalgic, I want to go to La Ferme.

We started with the Onion Soup au Gratin and Caesar salad, and I really enjoyed both. The French onion soup was rich, comforting, and exactly what you want from a classic French bistro. Others in our group tried the Crispy Goat Cheese Croquette and Half-Dozen Oysters, and everyone was very happy with their choices. For my main, I had the Steak Frites Au Poivre, and it was delicious. The steak was cooked just right, and the peppercorn sauce and fries made for a great combination. Others at the table also ordered Steak Frites and really enjoyed their meals. We definitely saved room for dessert. I went with the Classic Profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and housemade hot fudge, which were excellent and a perfect way to finish dinner. Our table also tried the Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee, and Apple Tarte Tatin, and everyone was pleased. We all very much enjoyed our meals. Enjoyed their small mussels and Caesar salad to start. That salad was good with loads of cheese and croutons. Never had their roast chicken and it was cooked perfectly, but the main star had to been that mashed potatoes. Good lord it was so good. I don't care how many calories it had! The kids meal was cutely displayed in a bento box like dish and the steak was already cut for her. She was very happy. All in all, a terrific dinner birthday celebration !

They have a bar in the Bistro when you first come into the restaurant with some tables, and you walk past the elevator that takes you up to the further reception area. The reception was upstairs on the second floor and it was a bit of a cluster having 50 people trying to get up to the second half of the event. The food was absolutely something to write home about! We had a menu to pick for two choices of first course, main course and 4 dessert options. I got the Maryland Crab Flan, Beef Tenderloin with crispy Brussel sprouts and fried risotto ball, and the Lemon Torte and I can honestly say, I thoroughly enjoyed every, single, bite. Perfectly seasoned, large portion of tenderloin, and mouth watering lemon torte that had a perfect balance of tart and sweet. The seafood flan was something I will be going back for with a glass of white wine. All in all the afternoon was beautiful and the wedding was great.

I tried a fried rice and was irritated that there was a no egg option but not a no broccoli option (not a Chinese vegetable mind you), which left me with little more than a colored rice to pick through. The tofu with hot peppers hit a nice heat but not the best rendition of this dish I've had in terms of flavor complexity. The best thing I got was a dan dan noodle dish with some vicious sauce and little tofu bites. Overall though, scant portions for the money, and not quite the experience I was hoping for.
