Just ok. I know that all of the hotels in Cannes are old - and this place is OLD. My review is for room 180 - a standard king bed room. What they've done here is paint over all old light switches, put in new windows, install overhead lighting and update the bathroom with new fixtures and countertops. But it's kind of like putting "lipstick on a pig". The lighting In the room is terrible. To put on my makeup in the bathroom was impossible as there was a regular bulb and an incandescent bulb in the ceiling which just cast light overhead. When you leaned in to the mirror, you were in the shadows of darkness and couldn't see a thing. Oh and they have a magnifying mirror in the bathroom but it is attached to the wall and impossible to use unless you're 5 foot 10 and again, no light. The shower is a cheap plastic insert on the floor with no curtain or glass so by the time you are done half the bathroom has water on the floor. The blow dryer - you have to physically hold down the button to keep it turned "on". There is no additional outlet in the bathroom so my flat iron needed to be plugged in nest to my bed and the cord stretched into the bathroom.
Thankfully I was just on the first floor as I was genuinely scared to get into the "antique lift" - I just took the stairs.
One day all of the power except for my bedside lamp and bathroom lights turned off. I wound up having to dress in the dark for dinner that evening and work the next day until they had an electrician come in to repair. When I got back from dinner initially and asked if they fixed it I was told an electrician would be coming tomorrow and did I want some candles? Um I think not in this tinderbox!
There was no dresser so my undies and non hanging items needed to go on the shelf with the the safe and mini fridge. The furnishings were OLD, the closet had a hole in the ceiling. The kettle in the room doesn't work.
The storm shutters on the outside of the window kept falling which added to my lack of light misery. The only English speaking channel was CNN International. The "freee" WiFi was spotty and the room service food was disgusting- literally a jar of pasta - like chef boyardee heated up - I would've gone out had I realized.
The walk to La Croisette and the Palais are not bad going but honestly if you are out of shape in any way, the walk back can be grueling. It is uphill for a big part of the walk and then to cross the major roadway takes a lot of skill and bravery. For me I was thankful that I work out at a gym and I packed myself flip flops to walk in.
Positives:
The people were extremely friendly.
The bed was comfortable. The complementary breakfast was lovely as were the people serving it. The evening free cocktails were fine although I had to stay with wine as the spirits were the cheapest types you could get. Wodka anyone?
The room had 2 robes and slippers.
And you got two free bottles of water daily - still and sparkling. And housekeeping does a good job.
Cannes is not my favorite destination to begin with but definitely will choose a hotel closer or on the Croisette next time I travel here. read more
