The breakfast area was cramped as well and the buffet not appetizing: the eggs looked and tasted industrial and the sausage fatty and burned. They served everyday a pasta salad !( really at 8 am?) -The coffee served from a machine was not very tasty. -Finally it was rainy and the hotels had umbrellas for 10 euros! Our check in process was smooth and we quickly accessed our room. We then went to each a quick lunch at the rooftop bar. Upon returning to our room about an hour later, there was a strong, pungent odor that smelled like chemicals (think hair relaxer). My husband and I tried opening the balcony door to ease the fumes, as they were beginning to make us feel sick (nauseous, headache, dizziness). First, I went to the front desk to request maintenance come investigate the source of the smell. Within 15 minutes, a tech showed up and said the source of the smell was coming from a clogged shower drain. As we had just arrived, we had not used the shower or the tub in the suite. He then said that the shower was unusable for the duration of our stay and left. I am skeptical that the odor was actually coming from the shower. While the technician was in the room, I had to sit on the balcony because I was feeling so unwell. Being 4 months pregnant, I was worried about harming my unborn babies. While sitting on the balcony with the door shut, I could still smell the odor that appeared to be coming from the HVAC system (compressor was right above my head outside). Meanwhile, the odor persisted. My husband and I went back to the front desk to ask if there were any other rooms available that we could relocate to. According to the front desk, there was not a single other room in the hotel. Instead of trying to help, they said if I was pregnant and didn't feel good from the fumes that I should go get a room in a different hotel. I was appalled by the lack of concern and customer service. Luckily, the Best Western around the corner had a very comfortable, odor-free room that we were able to obtain for the night. That put us out DOUBLE the cost, as we had to pay for the uninhabitable room and the replacement room. The front desk advised me to email management about the situation. I sent them an email upon checking out on 7/19/26 and shared both my phone number and email to give them a chance to make this right. Upon writing this review, I have not heard from them via phone or email to address our issues. Being pregnant and vulnerable overseas, this treatment was deplorable. I advise anyone who is pregnant or might be bothered by strong odors and poor customer service to AVOID the Splendid Hotel and spend your travel money at one of the many other fantastic, accommodating hotels in the area.

After booking a Deluxe sea-view room, I emailed them ahead to confirm, and they replied promptly. When we arrived, we were treated to a stunning full view oceanfront room in a historic hotel that has been painstakingly cared for. I was awed, just blown away. They left a lovely handwritten note with snacks and chocolates to wish us a Happy Birthday, which was seriously so thoughtful and touching. Marie at the front desk was so sweet and patient with us when we arrived tired from a long flight and gave us all the information we needed to have a good stay. The historic hotel itself is beautiful, and constantly being meticulously maintained. You can tell how much pride and care they have in the property. Our room was very clean, sanitized, and comfortable, with regular housekeeping. We had no mold or repair issues. The hotel is bustling with guests during the day, but quiet at night. Our booking included the French buffet breakfast every morning, and that was another highlight of our trip! We ate there literally every morning of our 8-night stay. We had delicious croissants, eggs, cakes & pastries of all sorts, cheese, baguettes, cereals, pancakes, crepes, coffee of all kinds, smoked salmon, ratatouille, fruit, bacon, sausage, juices, and to top it off- the most professional, diligent staff you'll ever meet. What a great start to the morning! After the wonderful breakfast, we were fueled up and ready to hit all the cities along the French Riviera. From the hotel we walked the Promenade, walked to Old Town Nice, walked to the tram, bus and train stations to connect to other towns, and explored Nice with ease. It's a great home base, and adjacent to many major landmarks.. Also, because it is literally waterfront and on the promenade, we fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean every night. I can say that I didn't have a single interaction with the hotel that was negative. Everyone is so professional, helpful, spoke English, and very friendly. This is an honest review, because we chose Hotel West End Nice on our own due to its easy proximity to the beach and the promenade, and from other very positive Google reviews (I learned that Europe does not use Yelp, so I found the few negative Yelp reviews conflicted to the more positive and detailed Google reviews). The bathroom has a weird window that looks out into the bed and the only privacy is a cloth curtain that has been growing mold. Gross. Also, the dispenser that holds the shampoo and body wash is held together by some bolts and tape, that is also growing mold. For a four star hotel, it's just a bit too moldy. They could leave the toiletries in a basket that's wipeable on the large corner shelf of the bathtub. Also, many hotels in France don't seem to have hair conditioner, so keep that in mind. The hair dryer was a bit weak too. Otherwise, the balcony was great and the windows were gorgeous overlooking the sea.

Location - The location was very central and it was walkable everywhere. About 10 min from Promenade des Anglais (the main boulevard along the beach), 10 min from the train station (Nice Ville), if you want to take the SNCF to Monaco, and 20-25 min walking to Vieux Ville. There are a decent amount of restaurants in the area too. It's easy to get dropped off and picked up in a cab or Uber in this location also. Room / Hotel - The hotel itself is renovated and feels modern and new. The room was spacious for a European hotel and we had ample room. There was a safe and a refrigerator in the closet. The TV was huge and new, and very clear. The heater/thermostat didn't really work too well, so we were hot in the middle of the night and didn't sleep super well. I can't imagine this in the summer when it's even hotter. The bed was pretty comfortable but the duvet was really warm and there was no sheet, so you had to sleep with the duvet on, or nothing at all. The duvet wasn't super great at regulating body temperature so I didn't sleep that well since I kept waking up super hot and sweating. Amenities - They had a pot to boil water and make tea, and also provided 2 complimentary bottles of water which was a nice touch. They also had a nice note and some chocolates on the bed upon arrival. Bathroom - The bathroom was large and nice, and they provided shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion, but the shower was terrible. There was nowhere to put the shower head above you, so you had to hold the shower head with one hand and then attempt to wash your hair with your other hand. This made for very awkward and difficult showering. Not sure who designed this shower but if they were going to go through the effort of remodeling the room, the least they could have done was put something to hold the shower head. We also ran out of hot water for 10-15 min on a Monday morning and had to wait for the hot water to come back. Overall, the location of the hotel was great, the rooms were nice and remodeled but we were a little annoyed by the heater and the shower head in the bathroom, especially at the prices that they charge.

Arrived at the hotel and was treated like a King. As a member of Leading Hotels of the World there was a welcome letter, complimentary toiletries gift set from Lalique, and I received a complimentary 60 minute massage at Le Spa as part of my package. The ascent to my room was epic, starting off with the velvet red elevator with automatic opening doors. As I got off the elevator I was greeted with an assortment of art (which is present on all floors and the common areas). I received an upgrade to a garden room overlooking the Musee Massena and a partial sea view which was magnificent (room 404). The room was well appointed with a super comfortable bed and came equipped with electric blinds that allowed me to sleep after sunrise. Chocolates were left bedside each evening of the stay. Each morning I was offered the breakfast buffet as well as a menu from which I could order specialty items off of such as pancakes and an egg white omelette. Service and food was great. The evenings offered live entertainment in the 1913 and Versailles bars with an outdoor smoking seating option for cigar aficionados. All the staff, particularly the Concierge team, were extremely helpful and made restaurant reservations for me upon request. The hotel also offers a beach club, which I did not take advantage of. The location was great, just 15-20 minutes from the airport, right across the street from Promenade Anglais, a 15-20 minute walk to the Nice-Ville train station, and about 15-20 minute walk to Old Town. Then she accused that I am not paying a lot of money at all because I booked through lastminute.com! I am a student and worked very hard to save money and take my girlfriend to provence for her birthday and I take the money I have very seriously! I got really offended! I asked to speak with the manager then she said that it is late and he is home. OK. Next morning I went downstairs again and asked for the manager. She said that he is busy. I went looking for him on the 4th floor after she refused calling him. He said that he can not do anything and that all the rooms are like that. That it is very normal is France to share the toilet business. He refused to understand our need of privacy and to come it to any sensible solution. Never offered an apology and said that if we don't like it we can take our stuff and leave and he will find a different room for us (not in the same level of course) and REFUSED TO GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK! We had to stay because we were obviously on a tight budget and cannot afford to pay for another room. When I was on the phone with lastminute.com he came to our room and started yelling at my girlfriend and at myself that we called and said the the hotel is dirty! we didn't! If you are planning to stay here, I'd highly recommend taking a taxi from the airport (~35 euro) or packing light. The hike up the hill with luggage can be a challenge, even if you're in decent shape. Service at the hotel is 4.5 stars. Phillippe is awesome and has great recommendations for dinner. He's friendly and welcoming. I would give him 5 stars. I would've rated the hotel higher, but it is a bit of a trek to the touristy spots. In addition, the walls are thin, so you can hear everything that goes on in the room next door. Our neighbors were definitely having a lot of "fun" on our last night. Even though I knocked on their wall several times, I wasn't able to stop their late night fun. We thought our room included the breakfast buffet, unfortunately it didn't and we had a 16 euro/pp/day charge. It wasn't that we minded the charge, but the food was definitely not worth the 16 euro/day. There weren't that many choices at breakfast. The hotel provides free wifi access, although it is spotty. It is also limited to two sign-ons per room. If you have a lot of wifi devices, you'll find yourself trying to figure out which device you want to connect to the wifi. There are some other creative ways you can get online, but I'm sure other yelp reviewers are smart enough to figure it out. :) If I visited Nice again, I would probably pay the extra $ and stay at the Hotel Negresco. I do recommend this hotel if you have a rental car. Nice is car friendly and this particular hotel is located in a residential area, so there is plenty of free street parking.

About one previous review: YES this hotel is located on a hill: the plentiful photos online clearly describe that fact...and the results are outstanding - quiet neighborhood, beautiful view, and fresh air! About another previous review: YES the breakfast is 16 Euros each but (traveling around the world) the buffet here is top-tier and delicious: hot eggs, bacon, sausage, plentiful fruit and baked goods, coffee and tea, juice and milk, yogurt, salmon and prosciutto...again, you get the picture! You are in France so definitely have breakfast other places on other days but for sure check out breakfast at the hotel itself! Everything is relative - for the cost (large bedroom with garden view for about 130 Euros) and the gorgeous/comfy/calm surroundings, I would give this hotel 8 stars if it was possible!
