Have drinks on the balcony outside and take in Nice by night.

This review is for the (nearly) rooftop bar on the top floor. It is a most central location for an aperitif in Nice, with a stunning view by both day & night. Currently, they feature Salsa lessons on Fridays- so go get your Latin flavor in the French Riviera while it lasts! Baila, Baila!

Bathroom Leak after we tried to remedy it as much as possible.

My husband and I booked Hotel Aston La Scala for 1 night through Expedia. First issue, when we got to the hotel, the room they gave us had small fruit flies everywhere. We killed approximately 20 ourselves.(see pictures) Annoying, but not huge - it's summer in France and we're willing to be understanding. However, later when we went to take a shower we noticed the shower was clogged. As in, if we turned the water on, it leaked into the entire bathroom, in giant puddles that we were concerned would affect the guests below us.(see pictures attached) I immediately called the front desk and explained we were unable to shower in the room. They said they were fully booked but offered to 1) move us to a room that had a front door lock that DIDN'T WORK as in the door would be unlocked the entire night, or 2) give us access to both rooms so we could go shower in the room that AGAIN DIDN'T LOCK and then proceed to return to the room with the leak to sleep. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is supposedly a 4 star hotel and your solution is for me to go shower in a room that doesn't lock and then come back to my room? Okay, so we said we wouldn't do that but we would like a partial refund on some of the fee we paid since WE COULD NOT SHOWER. The person at the front desk told me the manager was not there at the time so to speak about it when I checked out in the morning. Fastforward to the morning, I ask the front desk and they tell me this time that because I booked through Expedia, my reservation was prepaid so I would have to contact Expedia when I get home so that I can get a partial refund. When we got back to the states, we called Expedia - Expedia's policy is that they contact the hotel first to mediate. The hotel asked that first I send an email with pictures and an explanation of what happened. I did that. FOUR TIMES. The first three email addresses the hotel provided were non-working emails - so they just gave false email addresses hoping idk that I would give up in frustration? That I wouldn't notice it didn't go through? Who knows. The last one went through and since then it's been radio silence. Each time I have to contact Expedia to get an email address and be on the phone for hours only to continue this cycle again. Today, I contacted Expedia again and the hotel claimed they responded to my email (LIE!) and offered me an upgrade for my next stay, completely changing what they said in person and disregarding the fact that 1) the liklihood that I will be in Nice again anytime soon since I live in New York is minimal and 2) even if I was there is NO WAY I'd make the mistake of staying here again with the headache it's been. This hotel advertises it's prices at 450 Euros per night but they can't be bothered to ensure that the showers in their rooms are adequately unclogged or respond to customers rightful requests for partial refunds when the rooms provided are nowhere up to standard? We were there for 1 night before a full day of flying, and the inconvenience of being unable to take a shower in an allegedly 4 start hotel followed by the nonsense runaround hotel staff gave us is absurd. If you're looking for a hotel in this area, stay at the Best Western around the corner instead. They had incredible staff and the showers work. 4 stars my BUM. P.S. The "pool" they advertise is about 4 feet by 4 feet. Kiddie pool maybe but not a pool.

Handy to have a mini-fridge in the room-- hotel is across the intersection from a Carrefour City (small but well-stocked grocery) for drinks, wines, spirits, ice, mixers, snacks, food, etc. Also directly across from Monoprix which also has a grocery on the ground floor. Close to tons of shopping and restaurants. 10 minute walk from Promenade des Anglais (the beach).

The room had a lot of character, almost like getting a prime location with Airbnb but better because you have clean towels and 24 hour staff. The room had a king size bed and a twin bed. We didn't book a suite or anything so we were surprised on how spacious and luxurious the room was. We had two restrooms too! Speaking of staff, the employees were all so friendly and more importantly, accommodating. Our flight from Rome to Nice got cancelled and we were worried about paying for a night when we weren't there on top of cancelation fees. We called the hotel and they changed our booking from 2 nights to one night and waived the cancellation fee. Who does that??? Staff answered all of our questions and reassured us every step of the way. The customer service is superb, I don't even know why French people have a reputation for being rude. It's totally not the case, at least with the staff here. The breakfast was amaze balls. I wish I had photos of the food but I was busy eating it all up. The fruit was fresh and not canned. The croissants were freshly baked. It was flaky and buttery heaven! The baguettes came out piping hot and you can cut it yourself on a board. The coffee machine made like 8 kinds of espresso, cappuccino, and lattes. I had the white cappuccino and it was foamy, milky, and strong. Much better quality than Starbucks. The experience made me feel like I was staying at a five star hotel. I wish our flight wasn't canceled so we could have enjoyed our stay longer. When traveling to Nice, make sure to book this Best Western. It was about 60 euros a night in November!! What a deal!

If you are planning to stay here, I'd highly recommend taking a taxi from the airport (~35 euro) or packing light. The hike up the hill with luggage can be a challenge, even if you're in decent shape. Service at the hotel is 4.5 stars. Phillippe is awesome and has great recommendations for dinner. He's friendly and welcoming. I would give him 5 stars. I would've rated the hotel higher, but it is a bit of a trek to the touristy spots. In addition, the walls are thin, so you can hear everything that goes on in the room next door. Our neighbors were definitely having a lot of "fun" on our last night. Even though I knocked on their wall several times, I wasn't able to stop their late night fun. We thought our room included the breakfast buffet, unfortunately it didn't and we had a 16 euro/pp/day charge. It wasn't that we minded the charge, but the food was definitely not worth the 16 euro/day. There weren't that many choices at breakfast. The hotel provides free wifi access, although it is spotty. It is also limited to two sign-ons per room. If you have a lot of wifi devices, you'll find yourself trying to figure out which device you want to connect to the wifi. There are some other creative ways you can get online, but I'm sure other yelp reviewers are smart enough to figure it out. :) If I visited Nice again, I would probably pay the extra $ and stay at the Hotel Negresco. I do recommend this hotel if you have a rental car. Nice is car friendly and this particular hotel is located in a residential area, so there is plenty of free street parking.

The garden with breakfast (we didn't have it here as there was a stunning boulangerie (open every day) very close to the base of the hill where the hotel is perched upon) is beautiful, spacious and a little pool for the adventurous. The rooms are cute french, wall paper, mirrors but spacious and light. I wouldn't want for anything else in a hotel room. The front of house at the hotel was especially helpful. He has a great knowledge of restaurants and is very honest about the quality of food. His recommendations were excellent and we enjoyed chatting to him each morning about our plans. Very friendly, easy going and helpful. We would stay here again any day!

This last trip I was lucky enough to be upgraded to their suite on the top floor. Very large room, sea views, and complementary gift in my room. The staff was wonderful, very helpful in recommending places, storing my luggage after checkout, and even filling my water bottle. The hotel is mostly quiet, I did hear children running up and down the hallway, but for the most part it was quiet. There is a rooftop bar, I've not ever visited, but the hours are off. The signs say 23:00 closure, but I asked the front desk and they said 22:30 on the weekend nights I was staying there. They have convenient watering stations on each floor by the elevator for you to refill a bottle or glass, with your choice of temp and with or without gas.
