Generally when I travel I stay in small, cheap hotels, hostels or camp and this hotel would usually be well beyond my means but on this occasion the trip was a treat from my step-mother for me and my brothers.
If I could I would probably give it a 3 1/2 stars but as that's not possible I'll give it 4 as 3 seems unfair.
Good things: Nice rooms (great bathrooms!), friendly staff, beautiful location on the beach, great views if you have one from your room, great pool on the roof with even more incredible views, nice bar on the roof, free shuttle bus to and from centre of town, private beach with sun loungers and umbrellas and bus connections to the town centre and along the coast to Antibes and St Tropez.
Bad things: We arrived at 11:30PM and our room had been set up wrong (two double beds rather than two singles and a double. The staff were unable to change this as the people who knew where to get the right linen, etc. had gone home. No apology was offered. Hotel is a LONG way from the old town, at least a 40 minute walk (if it's hot you may struggle with this) or a bus ride. To use the sun-loungers around the pool costs an extra 18€ a day, the same goes for the beach. This seems hugely unreasonable for what is, after all a chain hotel (albeit a very nice one) that is VERY expensive (to my mind and pocket) to stay in already. You can swim in the pool without paying but then you have nowhere really to sit to dry off or relax without going back to your room or paying for drinks at the bar. The bar is VERY expensive, again this seems like unreasonable profiteering. The shuttle bus is not frequent enough and if it gets full, which it did three times we used it during the 4 days we stayed here, then you will simply be left behind to wait for the next bus (at least an hour) or to make your own way home if you are waiting for the last bus home at 11:30pm (late July). Arriving early doesn't help, the pick-up spot in the centre fluctuates within about 20 metres outside a school and when we were turned away many people who had arrived after us pushed infront. Nice has a good public transport system, including 24 hour night buses and a journey is only 1€ each way, but for a hotel that is so far out of town the shuttle service should be more reliable.
All in all, if you are being treated to a stay here, or have plenty of money to spend, you'll enjoy your time with very few complaints. If, like me, you are on a budget and prefer to save money on accommodation and spend it elsewhere (particularly in a city as expensive as Nice) then I'd look elsewhere. read more
