This is a nice little eating spot with friendly, attentive servers. It's clean and neat and has…read morecomfortably old fashioned decorations. It's a type of duplex with a restaurant on one side and a (smokey) bar on the other. The two establishments share a kitchen, staff, and an interior hallway. There is metered parking on the street. It is very inexpensive, but the meters are coin-operated only. Do be sure to take cash. I didn't realize this was a cash only place until we were already eating our ordered meals. When the bill came, I had just enough cash to cover the total, so I ended up using the ATM in the attached bar to get money for a tip -- it cost me $6 in fees! If I had known the establishment was cash only, we would have skipped the drinks and fries and had enough for a tip. (Looking back, I also could have not given any tip, driven to a bank or fee-free ATM to get cash, and driven back to deliver an even bigger tip for less than it cost to use the ATM there. Ugh.) But, you are reading this review, so you will know to go to your meal with coins for the parking meters, and some cash for your food and a tip! We visited on a quiet afternoon, and were pleased with our food and service. The fries could have used a bit more salt, but it's easier to add your own salt than to try to remove it. When we arrived, my son saw our table preset with coffee mugs, and requested his apple juice in a mug. Our server happily served it to him that way, and laughed with him as he pretended it was hot tea. The other server was helpful with the menu, and made sure we knew what our food would be. (We hadn't, so this was very appreciated!) The tables were also set with clever paper advertising place mats which had a word search for kids and adults. Overall, this was a nice place to eat, and I wouldn't mind returning.

After an extremely long sixteen hour shift at work I knew I needed one thing before I headed home…read moreand slept for a majority of the day. That one day was a greasy, heavy breakfast. Something that would sit in my stomach and make me feel satisfied. Quick search on Yelp to find a diner like setting for such and this was the nearest to where I was at that point in my commute. Keystone Kitchen sits in a plaza off of Route 22 in New Alexandria, from the outside it doesn't look like much. Once you go inside it looks like a country cabin diner, if that makes sense. The sounds in here are those of a diner and the smells are that of a diner. However, what is different is the decor. Kind of like a hunting cabin with the wood decor that is everywhere. The tables and booths were well used, making me know that this place is well liked and frequented enough to make it a local staple. When I came in I was greeted right away and told I could sit wherever I wanted. Shortly after finding a seat I had a menu in hand and a drink order placed. I was left to look over the menu. At the time of the visit I got to look over the breakfast menu. I was especially craving biscuits and gravy. My mind just kept telling me that and I was going to just order a combo with that as a side. That is until I made myself look over the menu one more time. That's when I spot the number 5 combo breakfast meal. That combo would give me everything that I needed at that moment in time. The number five combo is two eggs cooked they way you like, choice of either breakfast potatoes or hash browns, and the biscuit and gravy I was craving. I went with two dippy eggs (that's sunny side up for you non-western Pennsylvanians) and hash browns to accompany my biscuit and gravy. When it showed up in front of me, I couldn't wait to dig into that plate. I didn't know it, but I was starving. The eggs were perfect, cut into them and the yolks started running all over the plate, that was perfect to me. The hash browns had that outer crust on them that gave you the crunch and the inner parts were that warm potato that just hits you. Best part about it is that you can mix them with either the runny egg yolk or the extra gravy that definitely spilled over from the biscuit. The biscuit and gravy, oh my god, amazing. The biscuit is made in house which means they are fresh and tasty. The gravy has this sweet and savory mix going for it. The pieces of sausage in the gravy are amazing little pops of flavor. Little bit of spice in there, but everything balances out. It really livens up the dryness of the biscuit. This meal was what I set out for, satisfying. The service here, way above the bar. I mean there is great service and then there is Keystone Kitchen. Very attentive, interacting with everyone in here, letting you know who the regulars are, and very on top of their game. I really enjoyed the meal, it hit the spot and definitely put me to sleep when I finally did home for morning.

The girls were happy without complaint, they had pancakes and stuffed French toast, but it was too much for their tiny stomachs and needed boxes. Overall, the flow from seated to exit has some delay which is possibly due to the attention of the staff to their guests. Maybe it's the lack of motivation? I don't know. FYI: The more tables you quickly change; the more money you make. So, if they master the table exchange so people aren't literally left in the cold outside waiting to be seated, I'd go back, but if not, I can make breakfast at home.

They also currently have a seasonal latte flight which is unique and comes in various flavors. Some of them were a little too sweet for my taste, but it was cool to try the different flavors at smaller portions. All the food I tried was also delicious and came in bigger portions than I expected. The shop had a decent crowd at 1PM on a Saturday, and there was a local event going on throughout Main St at the same time. The service was a little off at first, but the server seemed to catch after I ordered my coffee. I thought it was interesting that the server said she can take my drink order, bring it out and then I can order my meal. Maybe it's due a short staff, but this seems to add to more time to the overall dining experience.
