National Public House - Filet!

National Public House

My wife and I came to National Public House, nestled in downtown Leechburg on a Saturday night in…read moreJanuary. The place has a new/rustic feel if that makes sense. It is homey, but new and clean. We had a seat in the back by a big fire place. The service was fast, effective, and friendly. Kenzie did a great job taking care of us. We started out with calamari. It was good, but not much different from other calamari I have had. It came with a mayo based sauce as well as a sweet Thai chili. My wife had the Shroomer, which was a portabella based burger. She really enjoyed it. I had the walleye. It was on a bed of risotto with broccoli and mushrooms. The walleye was blackened. It was a delicious dish. It was listed as "Riverfish" meal on the menu Overall, a fun night with really good food.

I judge a restaurant based on the amount of exposed brick they have on the inside. This place has tons of it. Very nice decor. Very old school yet modern. The appetizers were fantastic. We got the loaded hush puppies and the lobster crab dip. For the entrées we had pasta, French onion burger, and a chicken sandwich. The pasta and the chicken sandwich were excellent, but the burger was just average. Our server was great and the food came out super quick. Definitely a spot we will return to!

While in town we came here twice. Our first visit we came for Fish Sandwiches on a Friday. The…read moreplace was packed. The atmosphere reminds me of a typical diner with camping and wildlife decor. We ordered fairly quickly and waited longer than typical for our food. My husband did order the sandwich and loved it. Last minute I changed to the shrimp scampi, which was so good I planned to get it the second night. Instead I got chicken salad because they ran out of scampi. When we returned 2 days late they ran out of scampi. The chicken salad didn't hit the spot the same way. The oreo cheesecake was divine.

When entering the restaurant, a sign is prominently displayed regarding being short-staffed and asking for patience. I really liked the John Wayne memorabilia and cast iron Conestoga Wagon. I believe the waitresses outnumbered the cooks, BUT our orders were correct, AND all food served at once. We started with hot cheese bites & gouda/bacon/mac n cheese balls. The hard-core hot cheese bites people moved to the other team. Pulled pork, turkey with gravy & mashed potatoes, fish on a dish, & chicken wings were ordered. Everyone was satisfied with their meals - clean plate club. The coleslaw would have been better with just oil, vinegar, salt, & pepper. We all left full. Nice family environment. Six teen/adults - the bill was a little over $100.

The prime rib and the salmon were delicious. The Caesar's salad came with delicious croutons. This was our first time there but will not be the last.

As someone who doesn't even enjoy marinara, I have to say it was the best I've ever had! I would have eaten it by the spoonful if I were somewhere less civilized! Haha! Next, we had salads. I had the Cesar and my spouse had the house with ranch. All of the produce was fresh. The croutons in the Cesar are made from their cornbread. They were toasted, but not too hard. They were perfectly sweet. For our mains, we had the filet minion and the prime rib (blackened.) My spouse recalls this as the best steak she's ever had. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor and char. We had broccoli (deep fried) and potatoes as a side, both of which were tasty. Dessert was the peanut butter pie and the crème brûlée. Both came garnished with fruit on the plates. Both desserts were light and full of flavor. Service was amazing. Our server, Chuck, was personable and helpful with questions. Incredible and kind. The owners came to check on us during our meals and were incredibly caring as well. The downstairs dining room is dark, but well lit with decorative white lights. Intimate and small, it's certainly a place you can sit with your loved ones to catch up, celebrate a special occasion, or just enjoy a decent meal! Overall, we had a wonderful experience. We look forward to dinning here again in the future!
