My wife discovered Layered and would not let me rest until I had checked it out. So, last Sunday we stopped by and to my surprise, they had a nice brunch menu. She was all about the coffee art, but I didn't know about the brunch aspect. The menu looked good, lots of options. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich and she had the sweet potato pancakes. Randomly stopped in and was pleasantly surprised. The food was good and the kids loved the little robot that delivered the food.

Breakfast needs a lot of work here. I ordered breakfast tacos. The store bought tortillas weren't even warmed before the undercooked scrambled eggs went on top. We had a group of eight. Not one person enjoyed their food. The Layered hot macchiato was awesome with an espresso print of the Mona Lisa on top. The coffee cake cupcake was a cross between a muffin and a cupcake. In my book a muffin with icing that was lacking cinnamon throughout but decent and tender. I would come back for a cupcake and coffee but not food until correct the food. So disappointed in this place. Came for lunch and was greeted by a friendly staff and modest atmosphere. I ordered chicken and waffle while my Cuban fiancé ordered the Cuban sandwich. I was served "Frozen" Fried chicken tenders with a disgusting tasting limp waffle. After one bite I pushed my plate aside. I have been to Layered three times since they opened and I think they need more time to get in the groove. The service while friendly, is very, very slow. The one thing I want when I go out for breakfast is my coffee first and foremost. I get the coffee 20 or more minutes after I have sat down and two out of the three visits it was nearly cold. The food all three visits came out hot and tasted great. BUT very slowly. It's not cheap either, $50 bucks for breakfast for two. That does include 2 lattes each. Expensive coffee!! I really like the atmosphere and the cozy feel but that doesn't make up for good service. I'm going to wait a couple of months before I try again ,if I do. read more

I had the migas for breakfast and they weren't greasy or heavy at all but very filling. Great ambience and service, I'd definitely stop in again. I am not one to typically leave reviews, but I had to share what a great experience I had at this new restaurant in historic downtown McKinney. My husband and I love walking around the square and when we saw a new restaurant that served brunch pop up we knew we had to check it out! I made brunch reservations for Mother's Day and even my first encounter with their employee over the phone was so pleasant. They were able to fit me in at 1 (even though I called just a few days before). My husband and I both had their signature iced macchiato which was hands down the best coffee I've ever tasted! Seriously go try it!! My mom, husband, and I all ordered different dishes (Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash, and Bagel with Lox) that were equally amazing! My Eggs Benedict was to die for (and I'm honestly super picky!!), the homemade jam that came with my husband's food was extraordinary, and the hash browns with fresh herbs were delicious! They also serve bottomless mimosas for $8.50 which is really a steal! Definitely don't skip dessert either! After eating our fill of delicious brunch fare we were all way too full for dessert, but couldn't help but order a couple things to go. We brought home the coffee-cake cupcake and a lemon bar and they were seriously two of the best desserts I've ever eaten! But even with Layered's amazing coffee, food, and desserts the thing that really stood out to me the most was their service. Everyone I interacted with was so pleasant and really went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience there. The owner (Nir) was there the entire time working alongside his staff to make sure everything was running smoothly. As I was cleaning up my 8 month old son's mess all over the floor he actually came up to me to tell me that I did not have to clean up his floors and even went as far as to offer to take his placemat to the back to be cleaned! I was seriously blown away by that!! All that to say that if you are looking for great coffee, brunch, or desserts you owe it to yourself to check this place out! We went there for my granddaughters birthday. The atmosphere, service and food are very good. They had our table ready ahead of the reservation time and were courteous to allow my wife and I to be seated 15-20 minutes early. I would've given a 4 star rating except for after paying on they're iPad, I noticed they charged my tip to include the tax. Tip is supposed to be on the total before tax! Prices are fair but this needs to be adjusted on the electronic pay pad. read more

Loved the latte art but lattes were more bitter than we prefer. Out of blintzes but didn't tell us when dropping the menus, told us when ordering. Breakfast sandwiches were swapped so I got the over hard and mom got over easy. Too bad. Lox bagel: pretty good except for the huge anemic tomato slice and too-big onion slices. Iced coffee was okay... pretty empty when we first walked in around 10am on a Sunday. The hostess pointed to the front, by the door, and asked if that table was okay. Obviously we asked to be seated a little further back as we didn't want to be caught up in people coming and going. So, she sat us in the very, very back. Service was the turnoff today at Layered. The time on our ticket reflects approximately 4 mins after we were sat and our waitress took our beverage order - 11:41 am. We ordered when our waitress prompted us; she didn't have to come back or wait for us to decide. Food and coffees/teas came out timely and tasty (the food variety, flavor and coffee is what keeps us coming back). We asked a woman busing tables to bring us to-go boxes, and we boxed up our leftovers. While my husband and daughter went to the restroom, I paid our tab and tipped the highest option available on the handheld device (22%). When they came back, my husband started to sip the 2/3 of the Americano he had visibly remaining in his cup, at which time our waitress stopped to tell us that, "there are reservations for this table coming soon so...[add lips-pressed get-the-drift smile]." The time was 12:18 pm. So, in less than 40 minutes and after handling the request for and boxing of our own food and providing a decent gratuity, and seeing there was absolutely 0 parties waiting, we were being rushed out. I was way too nice, obliging and saying, "oh, yes of course." But as I walked to the car with my family, I felt ashamed that someone made me feel guilty for being a patron and a good one at that. We frequent this place for brunch, enjoy it at night on date nights and with friends and recommend it for both! I'm not so sure I feel the love in return and hope that the management team takes this to heart with its team. read more
