Mixed thoughts about LAX T5. It's an easy to get thru if you're in gates 50 and above. And even easier if you have TSA pre check. Never a terribly long line. When I know I'm flying out of this terminal, I don't think about getting to the airport early. Whereas if it was another terminal I absolutely would. Staff generally are annoyed but not as bad as JFK. They ain't winning awards for customer service but they do explain things pretty well. This time around I flew out of gate 52D. If you're in any of the 52 gates other than A or B, know that you need to get to the 52 gate and then you'll have to chat with a gate agent, scan your boarding pass, then take another bus to your gate. Thats how big LAX is. You need to jump on another 5 minute shuttle ride to get to your gate. The 52 gates aren't world class. It's pretty old. Probably just neglected since most of the flights here are regional / short distance flights. There's flights to Seattle, Bay Area, etc from here. Overall verdict - you could certainly do worse. But for how big it is, I think it's a pretty well oiled machine. And that in of itself earns a 3 star from me. read more

I know people love to hate on LAX but honestly.. I've never had any trouble flying in/out of there (hopefully no jinxing for 2026). On our last flight from LAX to JFK, we had a 12am flight and traveling with our 3mo old puppy and everything was easy breezy. We got to our parking (cheap) reservation on time, didn't wait too long for the shuttle and the agents for JetBlue were so helpful AND loved my puppy, made our night by taking pictures of/with him. There were lots of (clean) restrooms, quiet area, unfortunately all the restaurants were closed but otherwise, no problem flying out from LAX at all read more

The LAX terminal 5 is just passing the Tom Bradley internal terminal, and it's easy to navigate. It's generally the hub for JetBlue, Spirits, and some of the American Airlines flights. I think it's one of the older terminals in LAX, packed seating and limited charging stations, although the traffic was still quite busy. read more

I'll start by saying that I am biased as my favorite LAX terminal is #7. Flying out of terminal 5 sucks. You catch all the traffic if the airport and you can't escape it. I'd recommend parking at 7 which you can enter from a shortcut right as you enter the airport. Feels like a hack! read more

Older terminal w rare charging stations, smelly musty old carpets, and the most obnoxious not open overnight Mexican restaurant called Loteria that blasted their music all morning from the time I was here for a long layover from 10pm to 8am. It's obnoxious bc not only did none of the airline customers not ask for it at all while people were trying to sleep in the worst airline chairs overnight (these are the standard old ones from over 15 years ago it seems with arm rests in between and almost no charging stations) but it's music they are enjoying blasting for themselves and their image and they didn't ask if anyone wants to listen to it. This should not be airline music for T5 bc that's what it became. I can understand quiet classical music that is soothing and neutral but this was too much and too loud. I have never been at an airport where a restaurant gets to blast their music overnight to torment customers before their flights. So the rating includes Loteria and Terminal 5 allowing this to happen. Very distasteful for a major international airport and hub for so many major airlines. I will avoid T5 as much as I can. I can handle the fact that money is not yet being put into renovating this terminal but I can't accept T5 allowing Loteria to keep their music on all night and at such a loud noise level. read more

There are very limited dining options and only a couple of spots to buy snacks. Seems to be a price-fixing situation, as well. I wonder if all of the restaurants and shops are owned by the same company or if they got together to discuss the pricing structure? Either way, it's not a good experience for the captive consumers. Keep that in mind when booking with Spirit, American, and JetBlue as they seem to dominate the gates in this terminal. read more

Leaving on a jet plane... Lots of construction going on in LAX so expect delays aside from traffic. Limited staff on Sundays which is surprising; you'd think they were busier today. Had to take a bus to gate 52C. Grab snacks, food or coffee on the main gate. One small shop without a lot of options. No water refill station either at this gate. Can't wait for the construction to be finished and the train. read more

I normally fly with American Airlines. The bulk of their flights are out of terminal 4, but some will be out of terminal 5. From time to time, I'll fly with JetBlue where their flights are out of terminal 5. There are several stores such as Magic Johnson Sports, I Love LA, FAO Schwarz, and Rip Curl to pick up some last minute souvenirs. This place is definitely due for a makeover. Also, the food offerings are not fantastic for me. The one thing they had going for them is that the plugs worked so I could charge my phone. I really appreciated that. The restaurants were kind of meh... to me. I think my husband ordered some food because we didn't get to eat in San Francisco. It was from a place we usually don't eat at. Thank goodness this was a stopover. On the way back, our plane was late so we had to catch a later flight. Someone at TSA was tripping and being a super a-hole. Luckily, I was on the phone with someone from the airline who managed to find another flight for us. Her service is the reason why they have a third star. She stayed on the line as my phone went through the detector and I didn't have to call back. The issue? We were coming from Mexico and had to walk a country mile and a half back to exit the airport and enter again. Why? IDK. If you arrive an hour before boarding it's not terrible to catch a flight from terminal 5 if your gate is in the 50s / upper 40s. The negative here is that the Coffee Bean is the only coffee place in the terminal. Terminal 4 has a Starbucks. Oh well... so if you have a 6am flight. Tip is to get in line at ~4:45am when the coffee bean opens otherwise you'll be waiting at least 30 minutes to get yourself a drink before your early flight. read more

The term "a zoo" comes to mind when describing this terminal at LAX. While I can't say we were packed like sardines in the gate area where we sat waiting for our flight, it was close enough that I felt people on top of me. I am pretty sure I developed some rash while sitting at the airport. The acoustics amplified the noise levels up to 11. While there are plenty of generic-brand food options for snacks and meals before you board your plane, there is a need for gluten-free options if you are celiac or gluten-sensitive. The bathrooms had at least a couple of broken or under-repair stalls, which exacerbated the crowds and lines tenfold for those waiting to use them. And I mean both the urinals and the toilets. So you can imagine the disaster you could walk into when you must go. While airplane traffic flow kept the planes departing and arriving at a good click without much delay, don't expect any place to get some quiet or chill out away from the queues and screaming children. Not sure about all the hate for Terminal 5, but my experience tonight was stellar! Parked in P5, walked right over the bridge and straight to TSA Precheck line where I was done within 3 minutes. Employees were friendly and being patient with families with young kids making their way through the scanner. Food choices aren't the best, but there's still something for everyone here. At American Airlines Terminal 5 for food the Farmer's Market is usually my go-to spot for a quick breakfast. They serve decent bagel, ham and cheese sandwiches or the same sandwich with an english muffin. There are a variety of sit down restaurants in Terminal 5, but the Farmer's Market seems to be the only one open at 5:00am. Expect a line when you go. read more

Riding Jet Blue at Terminal 5 to Miami at LAX. This went by smoothly with no hiccups and I reached Miami on time and the day! The terminal is filled with many different flights but they do have a nice selection of places to eat or grab something for your flight. They have a section called Farmers Market and usually, I will buy water just for the flight because I just want to drink more water on the plane ride. They have a selection of food items to buy though, it is a little pricy but if you are hungry you should grab something. read more

I typically avoid having anything to do with LAX. It's definitely farther from home, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. The airport itself is nice; and the gates are fairly easy to find. It would be nice if they had a few more restaurants and coffee shops available. All in all, it wasn't a bad experience. read more

Honestly the terminal itself is a bit run down & the upkeep is not there... the carpeting is a bit frightening to think about placing your bags down on it & there's a slight smell that is off putting. What made this area at least a 3 star is the service received by the JetBlue agent. So accommodating & welcoming. Along w/the ADA assistance staff member that belongs to a third party. They know how to work hand in hand for those passengers requiring a little extra assistance. It was nice to see that type of teamwork at the airport. read more

My issue is not with Terminal 5 but with all the construction going on. If the drive to LAX isn't bad enough, it takes a good 45 minutes to drive from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5. Check in at the kiosk isn't bad unless the screen gives you an invalid transaction warning and go see a ticket agent. Now you have to stand in a long line. I noticed more than a few people receiving the same response. Once resolved, time for TSA. You need to remove everything off your person, shoes, belt, sweater, hat, and empty pockets. I didn't think the full body machine would pick up my passport in my pocket. They do mean everything. And now the wait at the gate. The lucky ones are on time. 2nd time flying LAX. First time flying via spirit. I flew at around 6am and fly off at 7:10am. The crowd was about 45mim to get to your terminal. I had a good experience not gonna lie. And surprisingly spirit airlines was ok. The airport was kept clean. read more

Given how often I've flown American, Hawaiian, and JetBlue over the years, it was only a matter of time before I would land at Terminal 5, which is one of the more updated terminals in LAX. After a major renovation several years ago, it has a number of cool options and has become a pretty solid place to fly to/from. The serious facelift (#1) resulted in a number of improved areas: additional security checkpoints, more modern touches from updated bathrooms to baggage carousels, and added shopping and dining options. Despite the obvious collective suckage amongst airport eateries, I think Lemonade (https://www.yelp.com/biz/lemonade-los-angeles-9) as well as Farmers Market To Go (https://www.yelp.com/biz/farmers-market-to-go-los-angeles) are the best bets food wise. I think during their pre-pandemic days it was also reasonably crowded here. That's not a bad thing considering all the lonely and eerie under-construction walkways between terminals, I would dare to say T5 was really teeming with life. Big crowds also imply there is faster wear-n-tear on the facilities but I've found it to still be well maintained and clean after all of this time. Other airlines that fly here are Spirit (#2), Frontier, Sun Country, Allegiant, and Air Canada. For folks on long layovers, I would recommend hanging in any of the airport lounges, especially the super updated Admiral's Club (https://www.yelp.com/biz/american-airlines-admirals-club-los-angeles-5). JetBlue was my airline to fly me back to JFK and I wasn't sure which airline use the same terminal. My flight was delayed and if you fly low cost, you will suffer the most, lol. There was unclear announcement for how JetBlue wanted to do with overbook and check in bag. Nobody seems to want to check in their bag even they offer free check in because the plane was fully book and won't have enough space to put a small bag or luggage above the head. I still don't know their problem why they wait too long to boarding a passenger. read more

Lack of food choices, and not very clean. Recently flew with American Airlines out of this terminal, and it was kind of inconvenient. Was trying to get some food, but some of the restaurants are either closed or there's really not much of choices, and the food selection is pretty bad. The security lines were somewhere reasonable on the day that I flew. The terminal itself is not super clean, it's just old, and really needs a remodel. I found this terminal to be so easy and a little more relaxed than MIA Everything was well organized and in bulk and bold display so finding your terminal was easy. Of course theres an abundance of places to buy trinkets, gifts, snacks, jewelry,alcohol, and etc but I had stocked up and was well prepared. While flying home to da 808, I had to a layover in Los Angeles and since Hawaiian Airlines is my airline of choice, I had to cut through Terminal #5 in LAX. I guess Hawaiian Airlines moved to Terminal #5 a few years ago (back in 2017), as they use to always fly into Terminal #2. A few of the airlines that uses Terminal #5 - 1. Hawaiian Airlines (Das my airline!) 2. JetBlue 3. American 4. Allegiant Air 5. Frontier 6. Spirit 7. Sun Country What can I say about Terminal #5? I noticed that this terminal looks rather dated, and it appears that this terminal didn't have much good food outlets. If you need to charge up your electronic device, you're gonna find a lot of broken electrical outlets in this terminal. Terrible if you really need to charge up your electronic device! Aiyah! On the bright side, getting through the TSA security check point in Terminal #5 was pretty painless, as the TSA agents were pretty efficient. I don't get out to LA as much as I use to, but if I have to come back someday, I am hoping they would add some improvements to this terminal. read more
