Just flew EVA Air from Terminal 4 to Taipei and I was surprised how much nicer it looks. They remodeled it since the last time I was here years ago - feels more organized and cleaner than before. Thanks to Global Entry, TSA was super quick. Also got to hang out in the American Express Centurion Lounge before the flight, which was really nice. Overall a good experience, especially compared to how it used to be. Definitely better than I remembered! read more

AND! Three years later, here is my update. Best you read this and pay attention if you intend to fly American now or in the immediate or future. This is a matter of fact update and is based on sole experience of my recent visit. Hmmm, where to I begin? OK, my story will begin at my experience of checking into a departing flight out of LAX, Terminal 4, the terminal for American Airlines. Preface also by saying the terminal is under massive renovation and has been for some time and when will they complete it? Who knows? OK- Now Pay clear attention- I get dropped off on LEVEL 2 which is the departing level for all flights. My boarding pass is on my phone so I need not stop at the check in counters. I tried, TRIED to be smart and follow the signs as I weave my way through the terminal to get to the departing gates This starts my journey! 1- Signs take me from LEVEL 2 to LEVEL 4 where the TSA check in sites are albeit Pre Check, Regular, Clear and the like. Keep in mind this is just through the security where they check your identification 2- Once past the TSA check in lines you then take the escalators or elevators back DOWN to LEVEL 3 where you then go through the screen machines. 3- once past the screening machines you take the escalator or elevators BACK DOWN to LEVEL 1 (Level 1 is street leve, the place where you normally pick up your luggage on arrival then go out to curbside) NOW I AM CONFUSED. I'M TRYING TO DEPART AND I'M AT THE ARRIVAL STATION???? I look around for signs and there is none. I so I decide to be like a LEMMING and follow the other walkers.... You walk through the tunnels going back in towards the gates and there is counter foot traffic with the arriving passengers. What a mess! Once you get to the end of the tunnel, you will take the escalator or elevator UP to LEVEL 2, the walk to the next bank of escalator and take it UP to LEVEL 3... WAIT Not done yet!!! Then take the escalator UP to LEVEL 4 where the gates are! Did you follow all of this? Do you need a map? Footnote-it was 3643 steps (Yup, counted) ok my watch counted the number of steps it took from the point of getting dropped off at curbside then situated at my departing gate... Had a pretty mediocre experience going though T4 as it has been going through a lot of construction as part of the big LAX non stop makeover. You're practically walking half the airport from security back to the gates once you get through and several of the stores aren't available due to the construction so don't expect a lot of amenities on the other side once you enter. Sears at the gates at LAX are always uncomfortable but these especially weren't great. And the best part... a loud alarm came on from a gate that did not get turned off for several minutes which is always pleasant at 5am. So if you're flying American just be prepared... read more

This terminal is for American Airlines flights. Had a 2+ hour layover midday and it was standing room only. Very busy terminal and not a lot of dining or shopping options in this area. Starbucks and Sammy's pizza is about a 10 minute walk away (follow the signs to gates 41-43) if you're OK with walking and you have some time between flights. read more

I came in and out of terminal 4 on AA. I came on a small plane, and wasn't expectig to have to shuttle around to a completely different area. Very confusing, and i understand there is construction. I have a feeling its always under construction. Just be prepared to walk A LOT if you are coming in on a small aircraft. We shuttled across the runway, I could practically touch a wing that is how close they come. overall, do not recommend but what can ya do lol read more

This review is for American Airlines at LAX in Terminal 4. There is still work going on in that terminal and some confusion about what is open and what is not, but I decided I was not going to complain about that today. What matters is that once I figured out how to walk into Terminal 4 and go straight to the right place, things went smoothly. Clear was working, TSA moved along, and I was able to get through security without much trouble. The flight itself left on time and arrived safely, which always counts for a lot. For this trip, I am giving American Airlines 3 stars. read more

NOTE: This review is as of the first quarter of 2026, when the terminal is under construction in preparation for the 2028 Olympics. The first portion (nearest to Tom Bradley) of Terminal 4 is now closed, you have to enter the second half, which makes drop-offs an issue and time consuming to get around that last corner as you approach the terminal. Once inside and past security, the middle section of the terminal is closed off on the top (normal) level. You have to go underground to get from the TSA area to the end gates. Drove here last week to drop off our daughters who were headed to the east coast. At 4 in the morning there was some traffic but not too bad for drop off. Today we parked at P4 so that we could come inside the terminal to meet our daughter who is coming home again for a week. Not too complicated getting into the parking area, and relatively calm at Terminal 4. Decent impression of LAX these two visits, despite my bias against it in recent years. My local airport Ontario International is still my preferred airport. That being said, when a direct flight is needed, or travel abroad, LAX is not too bad I guess. read more

My only issue with this terminal is the lack of regular food options. All the restaurants in the terminal are ridiculously priced. Most terminals I've been to at least have a panda express or something. Other than that I don't really have any issue with it. The terminal is very clean and has wide walkways so even if it was busy it would feel spacious. read more

the tsa line goes surprisingly fast (i got here at around 9:30am). the walk to gate 46-49 is a little far but there is elevators to make it a little easier. the waiting area is a little small ad there's only 2-3 restaurants/ markets that you can buy food from. other than that everything was very nice and clean. the workers were very helpful and nice as well. read more

American Airlines: Where Time Is a Social Construct and Accountability Is Cancelled Showed up to Terminal 4 at 8:30 AM for an 11:10 AM flight to Cabo. That's 2 hours and 40 minutes early--unless American Airlines has adopted interstellar time zones, in which case, my bad. Tried using their self-check-in kiosks (lol). After about 5 minutes, an agent comes over and says the system is broken and we should "get in line." Cool. We do exactly that--like calm, civilized adults who foolishly believe rules matter. The Main Cabin line had one--maybe two--agents serving 90-95% of passengers. The First Class line? Two agents for a handful of people. The Self-Check line? Also two agents. Translation: if you weren't flying First Class, you were essentially playing Hunger Games: Terminal 4 Edition. After waiting patiently for over 90 minutes, we finally reach the counter at 10:03 AM. That's when Agent Tammy tells us--casually--that we're going to miss our flight. Why? Because American Airlines' own staffing and system failures apparently count as our tardiness. They check with baggage handling. Baggage says, "We can take it." They call the gate. Gate says, "Nope." Then enters the manager, whose leadership style can best be described as HR Training Video Villain #3. She scolds us for "not arriving early enough" and says--verbatim-- "You need to be here 2-3 hours early. It's the holidays." We were. By almost three hours. But facts are optional at American. Here's the kicker: the agent actually found us a flight on Alaska Airlines (shoutout to Alaska for existing). She asks her manager if they can transfer us. The manager--standing right there--says: "No. They came here late." Late. At 8:30 AM. For an 11:10 flight. At this point I half-expected them to tell us we should've arrived yesterday. Despite calmly explaining the situation, pleading, and being extraordinarily polite, they refused to rebook us, refused to help, and later--when we called customer service for a refund--lied about the entire situation to the ticketing department to justify keeping our money. So to recap: * Their system didn't work * Their staffing was wildly imbalanced * Their delays caused us to miss the flight * They blamed us * They denied rebooking * They denied a refund * And they gaslit us like pros Never flying American Airlines again. If you value logic, time, or being treated like a human being, spend your money elsewhere. American Airlines doesn't sell flights--they sell lessons. Expensive ones. read more

The airport is huge and under construction so things are a bit weird. I got to the airport early because I was concerned about the traffic. There are several food choices here and a lot places to sit and relax. The terminal is very large and spacious and clean. It is very modern and well run. A bit of a hike to baggage claim and ride share and rental car. Prepare for a 10 -15 minute hike. read more

Lots of construction so try to park by terminal 5 to get drop off. Lots of steps and escalators so definitely look for signs for direction. Wait isn't too bad but got to get those legs moving. read more

Clean and renovated and modern. No old carpet smell like Terminal 5. They also have newer seats. Any airport with old musty carpets need to be taken out and replaced with easy to maintain cleanliness and no odors. I especially loved the historical walkway showing decades of flight. I learned a lot. It's under construction so you will see some piping and wires on top in the ceiling. read more

Check-in at home, then finding automated machines to scan your ticket when you first arrive to the terminal is a breeze. And with only your personal carryon luggage, no checked bags, makes things go even smoother. Tie string pants and slip on slip off shoes are the way to go when going through TSA. But, this terminal makes you take escalators up and down, then back up again. With a long walkway that I'm almost positive once featured long moving ones. One of those walkways is even featured in the opening scene of the classic Dustin Hoffman film "The Graduate", after he's arriving back home to Los Angeles from college. Dustin Hoffman is actually originally from Los Angeles by the way.You'll definitely get your steps in! And as you make your way to and from your waiting and arrival gates, you can't miss the exposed ceilings and unfinished concrete floor as you weave your way through Terminal 4. A little flooring upgrade would make a world of difference. read more

Plenty of people have reviewed the departure area of the terminal so I am going to speak about the terrible arrivals area. Two stars is generous and really the additional star was for the fact that there enough room to move around if all three baggage carousels are running. Now I'm not expecting fine dining or a bar but people do wait in the arrivals area for the people they are meeting so you know benches would be nice. You remember benches don't you? You used to have them. When I was there people were sitting on the window sills the floor anywhere they could find space and not get stepped on. read more

I was surprised despite the evening traffic I was able to conveniently park and walk over to the AA baggage claim area to meet up with my other half. The two large suitcases came out with a short delay and we were on our way out back to the car. I'm wondering how things are going to work out for LAX as the city will be hosting the Olympics in 2028, they better get their public transportation act together. read more

Transit through LA from China. LA airport is big, has 8 terminal, arriving at Terminal c, transferring from Terminal 4 via American, obviously there is no airport train, i end up walking out of terminal C, and walk all the way to terminal 4, then entering the airport again. VIsited LAX Terminal 4 for an American Airlines International flight on a Monday morning around 7:30 a.m. This one of our better LAX experiences. We arrived two hours or so before our flight time. It should be noted we only had carry ons and were able to go directly to security. The TSA security checkin was routine, and we experienced no issues. Regarding food and drink opportunities, it was the morning, so the open business had typical airport breakfast items, such as breakfast burritos, eggs, bacon, etc. Terminal 4 now has additional food court options too, but they were packed. Overall, LAX Terminal 4 was better this time around. read more

This terminal seems to be under construction and sucks. We were gate 48A. Gates 46-49 are separated from the rest of the gates and requires you to walk through a maze of LAX basements and escalators to get to the gate. The gate area only has two dismal food options. Crowns LAX that has a sit down option and counter service. Overpriced as expected with low quality. The only other option is "the Market" that is stocked with bland overpriced sandwiches and junk snacks. The Market is the only store in the gate area so a line builds up fast and they only had one cashier, so the line at one point had like 20 people in it. Additionally, cell phone service in this terminal/gate is trash. 0/5 truly. read more

It's been a few years since I've gone through Terminal 4 for a flight, and I don't remember it being this nicely put together. (I kinda rushed through the last time so the experience wasn't enough to write about it.) But I had a couple of hours before boarding, so I took my time to take it all in. Decent eateries including a food court (which were all surprisingly open at 6am), okay shops and plenty of spaced out seating in all the gates. I also liked that they had plenty of charging stations available. What I also found cool are the unmanned automatic wheelchairs bringing passengers to their gates and returning "home" at completion! Now, that was cool! Love the improvement. Wouldn't mind flying outta here again in the future. read more

We stayed here mainly because we had to pass through for our flight, and overall it was a pleasant experience. There was really nothing to complain about during our stay, which is always a plus when traveling. The room was very nice, clean, and comfortable, making it easy to relax before continuing our journey. Getting off the plane and into baggage claim was a bit of a mission. Feels like you're at an amusement park and you're stuck inside waiting to get out from the crowd. You have to go down two sets of escalators to get out of the airport. Once in the baggage claim you'll be waiting a while before they even drop your luggage off, if you're lucky your luggage will be in the first batch. Once we got our luggage we had to hike our way to the fly away which was a while other terminal down from where we came out of. I will say the workers there are all nice but the people in general are rude. Lots of travelers from all over the country which is fine but no need to be rude when we are all headed in the same direction. read more

My default airline that I fly with is American Airlines, so I'm either here or in terminal 5 for my flights out of LAX. Lately, there have been a lot of renovations taking place at LAX ahead of the Olympic Games for 2028, so the airport in general might have a bunch of construction, but it's finally being upgraded. While most of the structure is old, however it is definitely becoming more modern. Currently, this terminal in particular has a few, but decent food selection. There are plenty of signage to direct you on where to go. read more

Not too busy today Monday, July 4. Did the check-in on the American Airlines app, excellent time saver. Straight into the TSA check point. We got a shuttle to drop us of, we parked at Fox Auto Park, like a mile from the airport. Here on terminal 4, the TSA agents were asking for both documents, the boarding pass and an ID. The line went by rather quick. Not too busy here at around 5 am. There are a few restaurants and coffee shops available. No Starbucks though, I could not find it. Straightforward airport. read more

Would give zero stars but the traffic enforcement here is ridiculous! There has been a car parked at the passenger pickup area over 15 minutes and the traffic cop never got off his stool! There used to be a time you had to have the people there to load not wait for 15 minutes blocking everyone. My ride was made to loop around because people were parked waiting for their travelers. I walked down to the car rental area where he could pull over and they said they would ticket him if he did. LAX needs to do better. read more

Terminal 4 is the farthest from the entrance of Departing flights. It will take you 10-30 minutes to get to T4 from the time you enter the roundabout. And as of Nov 2025 there is construction on T5 and at one of the entrances to American Airlines. So if you have a flight on AA out of LAX just cancel it and try to fly Southwest or fly out of another airport or allow an extra HOUR. I kid you not. AA staff told me they reco you arrive TWO HOURS before your flight. read more

This Terminal is small - for American Airlines it's worn down. None of the outlets works... I've moved from one gate to the other to try the outlets... none working. LOL... then the door alarms keeps blaring... limited restaurants available ... I try to avoid American Airlines... please renovate this terminal... LAX Terminal 4 is the main hub for American Airline. It has a handful of food stations, book-newsstands, washrooms, coffee shops and a customer assistance center. I have been here a few times or so. It's a modest terminal with aging structure and interior carpet. Staff were professional and cordial. Overall, it's a good and decent terminal. I had modest experience. read more

If you have any kind of walking issues at all, just get a wheelchair. Even if you don't think you need one, get one. Its like a mile walk to the baggage claim and there isn't a single place to sit. Not one. Nothing. Inside of out. How can you have no where to sit anywhere? Not inside, not outside, no where. I'm on a cane, I don't need a wheelchair, I just need to sit down while I wait for my bags and my ride. Now I'm sitting in the dirty floor thanks to whatever moron designed this place to not have any benches or seats in the entire terminal. What garbage design by absolute idiots. read more

My wife and I have Global Entry, so we wanted to travel without hassle at the airport. However, during a recent trip through LAX, after passing the initial facial scan at the TSA PreCheck line, a second agent with a negative attitude redirected us to the standard security line. There, we were unexpectedly required to remove our shoes and jackets, and empty our pockets, just like passengers without TSA PreCheck. What is the point of having Global Entry and TSA PreCheck if we're still subjected to standard screening? My suggestion is that all TSA agents need proper training and should be supervised to ensure consistent service and to the new Rules and policies read more
