There's a decent selection of restaurants, cafés, and shops, and the international terminal is easily my favorite. The subterranean American Express Centurion Lounge is a bonus, although it's almost always too crowded and has a wait time. My biggest complaint is the traffic and transportation. Picking someone up is such a headache that I've pretty much stopped doing it. Arriving passengers have to take a bus to reach their Rideshare/Lyft/Uber pickup, which is especially awkward with luggage. An Uber or Lyft SUV can pick you up curbside; getting dropped off is considerably easier. Honestly, LAX has some of the most frustrating and disorganized airport transportation I've encountered anywhere in the world. Once I'm inside the terminal, though, I enjoy the experience much more. It's not perfect, but with a little patience and extra time, it's a perfectly decent airport. Just be prepared for some chaos outside.

In our 3 request for help they told us we had to walk to the international terminal from where we were. They said it was about a 5 minute walk and they told us we had to stay inside but it turned out we had to also walk outside to get to our correct check in location. They had wheelchairs there and still made us walk. We were in so much pain after walking to the correct terminal. The Delta staff we spoke with were uncaring and not helpful in any way. I hope this review results in better training and perhaps new staff that actually care about the travelers they encounter. Also, once we got checked in at the right terminal it took 45 minutes to get our wheelchairs. Even the staff pushing us stated that it should not have taken that long. One last comment- the shuttle driver was very rude to my mother when she enquired about how long until they were leaving to our gate. Overall most of the staff we encountered made our traveling experience unpleasant and stressful. It was not the best way to start the day.

Albeit it wasn't peak/holiday season, TSA was quick, mobile check in, and all the signs are now easily viewable. There's many friendly agents that streamline the process along with many lines, find one that's shorter and the process is ultimately quick and efficient. Not long after, easily find our gate and the rest is up to you. The restrooms are clean and there's plenty of food and drink options. I'd suppose that some flights/airlines require physical boarding passes, so watch out for that. Can easily get that resolved via the agents at your respective gate. Traffic aside from before arriving to LAX, everything else was very smooth and efficient.

With that being said, this is a huge airport hub so be prepared for the traffic getting in the airport, inside the airport and getting out of the airport. Whether its downstairs at Arrivals or upstairs at Departures, the traffic is just bad. There's rarely a time that I've been here that there's no traffic. Make sure you leave with enough time to park (if you are parking in the structure) or before your flight time departure. Traffic and TSA are long lines so plan accordingly. Today, I went to the Bradley International Terminal. Its at the far end of the airport so I had to go through the traffic of Terminals 1-3 to get there and Terminals 4-7 to get out. Be prepared for lots of stop and go and people cutting you off. Just drive safely and be aware of other drivers who aren't as careful as you. You've got this!

Unless you take the short cut near Terminal 1, you're going to be crawling through five other terminals before you get to yours. Since Alaska is the primary airline, this hub is constantly bustling. Gates are small, and there's never enough seating as you get closer to take-off. Food options are okay, though the longest line is always the one at Starbucks. You'll have to hunt for your water bottle water filler, but it's there. One advantage of this active terminal is that you only have to drive by two others when you exit. Disadvantage? If you're taking a shuttle, sometimes they're full before they arrive. After a long flight, that is terminally disappointing!

When you do find one, they're clueless. It seems they're as confused about the horrible signage and directions around the airport as well. I had an agent tell me to stand next to "the green pillar" to wait for an uber.... But she pointed at a purple one.... Assuming she was colorblind, I looked for a green pillar. I found it. Called my uber, waited next to it. Turns out? You don't wait next to the pillars at all. You take them to the Ride app section and get picked up there. Not sure why that's so hard to articulate, "wait by that green pillar, and a shuttle will take you to where you wait for an uber" would've been a pretty damn simple direction, but again, the agents here are VERY confused.

If you're in any of the 52 gates other than A or B, know that you need to get to the 52 gate and then you'll have to chat with a gate agent, scan your boarding pass, then take another bus to your gate. Thats how big LAX is. You need to jump on another 5 minute shuttle ride to get to your gate. The 52 gates aren't world class. It's pretty old. Probably just neglected since most of the flights here are regional / short distance flights. There's flights to Seattle, Bay Area, etc from here. Overall verdict - you could certainly do worse. But for how big it is, I think it's a pretty well oiled machine. And that in of itself earns a 3 star from me.

If you take a shuttle, they have an exclusive lane that lets them navigate faster. TSA usually moves fast, but sometimes the lines are long. Mid-day, I waited less than 5 minutes. Pre-dawn, can be busy. Food options include Urth Caffe & Bar, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chick-fil-A, and Rock & Brews. Restrooms tend to be clean, and there are water refill stations near them. Gates are often overflowing with people, so I'll find a quiet spot with a view as soon as I've reached the concourse. It's usually peaceful until someone inconsiderate puts their phone on speaker. Dude, NO ONE wants to listen to your nonsense. NO ONE. If only Southwest had a club lounge!

Historic significance lays in the fact that famous DC-3 & military aircraft was produced by Douglas Aircraft Co in Santa Monica at the airport before it had moved to Long Beach. Famous tenants like Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise & Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with others, average daily 250 takeoffs & landings, that's a lot of noise! Neighbors in Santa Monica didn't want harmful exhaust, emissions, fueling, lead & carbon, pollution, and noise! At the same time, its use during WWII for military purposes had federal agreements for FAA to allow operations. So various aviation interests contended with the City of Santa Monica over its ownership. They reached the agreement after endless litigation to return the control of the airport land to the city. Met with Oliver and Jorge and they gave me all of the information I needed to begin my journey into aviation. Prices are very reasonable and the school is going through lots of positive changes. I was also impressed with how many of the staff members are bilingual. 非常好 Great fleet of airplanes to learn from: Cirrus, Cessna, and SportCruisers.
