Terminal 8 is the newest Terminal at LAX. It is home to United and now SkyWest which merged with United. It is the smallest terminal and is home to gates 80 to 88. It also is home to Engine Co. No. 28; a full service bar and restaurant with classic American cuisine. I have read some reviews complaining about seating. I found the seating very nice and comfortable, albeit limited. I can imagine on a busy travel day there is standing room only for some flight departures. On the plus side, are all the multiple phone charging stations located conveniently near the seating areas in blue lit up posts that have 8 or so outlets per post. This is one of the nicer terminals at LAX, followed closely by Terminal 7, but due to limited size of this terminal and how crowded it gets, going only 4-stars. Thank you LAX for a safe departure.

Terminal 8 has a cool art exhibit.

Not many stores or restaurants for travelers. Kind of disappointing for a big airport such as LAX.

I know people love to hate on LAX but honestly.. I've never had any trouble flying in/out of there…read more(hopefully no jinxing for 2026). On our last flight from LAX to JFK, we had a 12am flight and traveling with our 3mo old puppy and everything was easy breezy. We got to our parking (cheap) reservation on time, didn't wait too long for the shuttle and the agents for JetBlue were so helpful AND loved my puppy, made our night by taking pictures of/with him. There were lots of (clean) restrooms, quiet area, unfortunately all the restaurants were closed but otherwise, no problem flying out from LAX at all

Mixed thoughts about LAX T5. It's an easy to get thru if you're in gates 50 and above. And even…read moreeasier if you have TSA pre check. Never a terribly long line. When I know I'm flying out of this terminal, I don't think about getting to the airport early. Whereas if it was another terminal I absolutely would. Staff generally are annoyed but not as bad as JFK. They ain't winning awards for customer service but they do explain things pretty well. This time around I flew out of gate 52D. If you're in any of the 52 gates other than A or B, know that you need to get to the 52 gate and then you'll have to chat with a gate agent, scan your boarding pass, then take another bus to your gate. Thats how big LAX is. You need to jump on another 5 minute shuttle ride to get to your gate. The 52 gates aren't world class. It's pretty old. Probably just neglected since most of the flights here are regional / short distance flights. There's flights to Seattle, Bay Area, etc from here. Overall verdict - you could certainly do worse. But for how big it is, I think it's a pretty well oiled machine. And that in of itself earns a 3 star from me.

It's been a source of controversy for decades! Capping decades of legal battles & protests! One of the oldest in USA! Airport land converts into Park! Meanwhile they shortened the runway to limit jet flights! By the way, this is where Harrison Ford crash landed onto Golf Course instead of a runway! This general aviation airport, naturally long favorite of celebrities & biz heads, had its share of public scrutiny just like many other non commercial airports in California. Like my San Carlos Airport SQL or Palo Alto Airport PAO. Historic significance lays in the fact that famous DC-3 & military aircraft was produced by Douglas Aircraft Co in Santa Monica at the airport before it had moved to Long Beach. Famous tenants like Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise & Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with others, average daily 250 takeoffs & landings, that's a lot of noise! Neighbors in Santa Monica didn't want harmful exhaust, emissions, fueling, lead & carbon, pollution, and noise! At the same time, its use during WWII for military purposes had federal agreements for FAA to allow operations. So various aviation interests contended with the City of Santa Monica over its ownership. They reached the agreement after endless litigation to return the control of the airport land to the city. And at the end of 2028 the city is free to do what they want with 227 acres of airport land! *The one who should care Does she or doesn't So let the beat roll on I'm 'bout to get in the zone I been locked up all by myself But I'm known to grow my own I burn it till it's gone Like there ain't nothing wrong I'm just out in the shade Watching the world go up in flames [ Review #828 w 3 pic Feb 15, 2025 ] Here, can't complain! @Santa Monica Airport CA Thur 2/6/25 Going home tonight! Was in the neighborhood and was curious about the flight schools at the Santa Monica airport…read more Walked in and I felt immediately welcomed. Met with Oliver and Jorge and they gave me all of the information I needed to begin my journey into aviation. Prices are very reasonable and the school is going through lots of positive changes. I was also impressed with how many of the staff members are bilingual. 非常好 Great fleet of airplanes to learn from: Cirrus, Cessna, and SportCruisers. I am now looking forward to my introductory flight with the school and will definitely be considering getting my Private Pilot License with them! 谢谢SMF 加油 Muy Bien Adios
