I am not exaggerating when I say this place is awesome, and Gary is a VW angel. My 2010 vw beetle convertible is my baby. I love her, and we've been on so many roadtrips and beach adventures together. So, I was bummed when she broke down...she just died on the side of the 80 near the Bay Bridge. That was November, 2023. I took her to Royal Motors in San Francisco, which is a VW dealer, and has been my go to since I got the car. Well, that was a big fix for $800, and I thought we were good. Until she died again a week later. She went back in the shop, and was in there for a month. Fixed it. Then bam, a week later, back in the shop. This went on for over a year, with the car going in and out of the shop for various things wrong with it. This was very inconvenient, frustrating and costly for a teacher like me. The last time I took it to Royal, November 2024, they told me they could not figure out what was wrong with it. They said the repairs would be $2000 to $4000, and would be more than the value of the car. Essentially, they told me to come get my car, and just send it to the junkyard for parts. I was heartbroken. This car only has 72,000 miles on it, and is in great shape cosmetically. There was no way I was giving up on her. Enter LaVere's! I did a search for "VW mechanics" in the Bay Area, and Gary's shop came up. I had the car towed there, and had him run some tests. I was honestly expecting to hear bad news. But, instead, I got a call from Gary with the report that he had not only fixed it, but it was only $300! I could not believe it, and was even a bit skeptical. But sure enough, on New Year's Eve, we took the BART to Concord, where Gary himself picked us up. He drove us to his shop, which is a really neat, old school space, with lots of cool vintage VW's everywhere. Hallelujah! I was reunited with my bug, and ended what was a tough year on a high note. He explained that they saw that one of the main manifolds (or whatever you call it) needed to be bolted down properly. Simple fix. HUGE results. Mucho gratitude. It's been a month, and I have been driving the car with no problems...she runs great! Zippy as ever. I'm super grateful to Gary and his team for giving her new life. I would 1000 percent recommend him as a mechanic...and miracle worker to anyone. Thank you, Gary!!! You're my hero. :)

I called to schedule an oil change for a 2008 Audi, spoke to the owner, Gary, on the phone. He scheduled it for the following Tuesday, no problem, as it wasn't an emergency. So, I waited over a week to bring it in. I felt confident, as I've had good experiences with reputable mechanics in the past who came recommended. First impressions when I dropped it off on Tuesday 2/22 morning - I don't care about your politics, honestly, I just wanted honest reputable service. Owner introduced himself (wearing a "MAGA" hat) and the manager, Jason. I really thought these guys had my back for a simple oil change. Jason passed the job off to one of his mechanics. I was offered the option to wait, but as I needed to leave since my toddler and her dad were waiting for me, I said it was no hurry and I would return in the afternoon. I called to let them know I was coming, spoke to Gary, since I had not received an "all ready" courtesy phone call - odd, since I was told that was their procedure. When we arrived, the passenger window was rolled down and the interior had been rained on. Unbelievable. Jason was apologetic and wiped it down. Ok, I was upset at the lack of care, but surely the job was done correctly, right? WRONG! This morning I noticed a puddle underneath the car. OIL. From a car that was perfectly fine when we dropped it off the previous day. Lovely. Called them up to bring it in. Fine. My partner drove it back to the shop - thanks for the time waster, guys! He had to watch as the mechanic went back and saw that they didn't put the oil filter on correctly. There was no oil left. It lost more than 6 quarts of oil in 10 miles. Oh, and to top it off, the owner said my partner could take off his mask in the shop, so he replied, "no thanks - I have an unvaccinated child at home." The owner, Gary, replied, "I am an unvaccinated child! HARHARHAR" Thankfully, they swapped it, cleaned the oil, filled it, and put it back together. More apologies. And a free quart of $10 oil. That's why this review is 3 stars. I could have done a better job watching a YouTube video and replacing the oil and filter myself. Hopefully there aren't any other problems that were CAUSED by this shop. NEVER. GOING. BACK.

Had huge engine work done to fix deep oil leaks and thermostat on my S5 and afterwards there were some codes that popped up. Engine mount solenoid and issues with the control runners. They took responsibility, kept their word, and took it back in to fix up correctly.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! Ultimate Disrespect of Your Time and Complete Liars!…read more I am unquestionably furious with the absolute disaster of a service at this Pep Boys location. I scheduled an appointment for 12:30 PM to have 4 new tires installed. It is now 3:45 PM--over three hours later--and my car is STILL sitting in the exact same spot in the parking lot. They haven't even touched it. What makes this even more infuriating is that I actively called early this morning to confirm my appointment and explicitly ensure they had all four tires in stock. They had every opportunity to look at their schedule, realize they were backed up, and apparently "had appointments booked on top of each other", and tell me it wasn't feasible. Instead, when I arrived, the front desk associate (Robert) told me it would take "an hour or two." That was lie number one. After waiting over three hours, I went up to the desk to check on a status update. He looked me in the eye and promised it would be done in about an hour. Naturally, I walked outside 30 minutes later, and my car hadn't moved an inch. Lie number two. Fed up with the lies, I walked back inside and asked for my keys back. This employee actually acted surprised that I was leaving, and he didn't even bother to apologize for wasting my entire afternoon. Not to mention, I took the afternoon off unpaid AND crossed the bridge toll. Instead, he arrogantly told me, "Feel free to call me back if you want to reschedule," as if I would EVER step foot in that place again. Ain't nobody got time for that! If this staff had even an ounce of honesty or professionalism, they would have told me the truth from the jump. Had I been properly informed, I gladly would have rescheduled. Instead, they chose to trap me here, treating my time like it is completely worthless. This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating, disrespectful, and a massive waste of my day. The lack of communication and blatant dishonesty is unacceptable. I will never, ever bring my vehicle back to Pep Boys, and I strongly recommend everyone else steer completely clear of this absolute circus. Save yourself the headache and go to a shop that actually respects its customers.

Yes, I have triple AAA but there cost was well over $300 for my battery and installation. The store itself is pretty small, the battery selection was not that great and the shelves looked a bit empty. Definitely smells like an auto store. I was able to go on to their website and find the battery I needed at the right price. The cost was about $175 with a $20 deposit fee that was returned when I gave them my old battery. Since ordering it online, I thought it would be quicker. When I went to go pick it up, there was a mishap and it took the poor employee forever to find it. He went back in to the warehouse and looked for it, talked to other employees, and come to find out. It was on the shelf of the store..... I could have pulled it. Anyways, don't expect much. Come here for your car parts and leave. They definitely do not have any special parts you may need. They did advise me to head over to the dealership as it may be the only way to get this piece. Thanked him for the advice! There are a bunch of teenagers that work there so I'm not sure how knowledgeable they are about cars. But I can always be wrong.
