Well well well did we ever luck out today (SATURDAY). You know that the food is good when you get that happy food dance. Let me tell you... I was happy food dancing the whole way through my Beef on a Weck. Let me back up a minute and take yall start to finish, we walked in and there was a clear "please seat yourself" sign by the checkout. The place feels small town and adorable. The wooden booths aren't here for your comfort, but the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our server greeted us with a smile and was super helpful. She was friendly and talked us through the menu. I settled on the must have Beef on a Weck (no sides) while my partner had the Fire grilled Roast Beef and Swiss with sweet potato fries. I didn't even know what a Weck was until we stopped by today. When the plate was placed infront of me I knew I would loveee what was to come next. Beef on a Weck... it is served open faced because the meat is the clear feature here... but when I flipped it over I knew what to do.... eat this beast upside down (meaning seasonings touch the tongue when you take a bite). Trust this foodie... this hack takes that sandwich to the next level!!!! The horseradish provided was very good and had a nice bite, and I like Horseradish, but the seasonings (sea salt and cardamom seeds) on that bun are what I really found myself seeking every bite. Man that was delicious. Now not to be out done, the Fire Grilled Rst Beef and Swiss was also a head turner too! The warm roast beef and melty Swiss cheese did not disappoint. The sandwich bread was toasted to perfection, and it was also delicious! The side of sweet potato fries just took the whole dish to the next level! While our stomachs did not allow room for dessert (likely due to the amount of meat each sandwich contained) I was almost tempted to try the caramel cheesecake. Prices were also extremely reasonable especially considering the quality! All in all this was a fabulous stop and we would go out of our way to come again on a Saturday when the Roast Beef is fresh! read more

Although this is a small restaurant with limited seating, I actually think that's what makes it the place to consider. We had excellent meals. The service was hometown, friendly feel. Easy to find; right on the main road. Plenty of Parking was in the back of the building. My husband got wings and they were better than any of the wings that we got in Buffalo! I got the special of the day: salad with pecans and fruit. I added grilled chicken. Everything was fresh and tasty, plus, they didn't skimp on the fruit and pecans!! read more

My dad and I were visiting family and for a Bills game, staying in Warsaw. I yelped to find him some beef on weck, and Laurie's popped up as the top spot for beef on weck. The service was excellent both nights we went and the decor was cool old photographs from the area. Very historic building. I can say that you MUST go here if that's what you're craving. They only have it on Saturday & Mondays as their special, and they slow roast it. You don't need any au jus, and they even ask you how you want it done (medium is suggested). I ordered the fried chicken wrap the first night (delicious!!!) and then the pizza the second night (also delicious!). I wish we lived closer, because we would be regulars here, and we noticed there were many regulars. Highly recommend! read more

Great place when in the area, we were staying in town for a Letchworth State Park visit. Both had the large fish special, with two sides, and shared a bowl if New England Clam Chowder. The fish was huge, very tasty, fried perfectly with a great beer batter crunch. The sides were all really good, had the seasoned fries, loaded potato salad, broccoli salad and mashed potatoes, all outstanding. Had a couple of great IPA's on tap as well. Highly recommend if in the area, reasonably priced great food and great service. read more

After crossing into the USA on the Peace Bridge, I drove Route 20A east for about 40 minutes until reaching the Village of Warsaw, N.Y. I stopped there for my first meal of the day at Laurie's Restaurant. The green awning over the front windows was slightly torn, but was a good flag for the business. Walking in, the dining room was nicely appointed with restored red brick wall and tintype ceiling. High back wood booths lined both sides. I settled into the last table on the left side closest to the kitchen. The lone server stopped by with menu and welcomed me. She was friendly and informed me a little of the history of the place. Sadly, Laurie was no longer with us, and her niece Robyn was now in charge. The kitchen is known for Beef and Weck Sandwiches, famous in the Buffalo region. Not a roast beef guy, I went with their large burger with cheddar, red onion and lettuce. It arrived medium finish as requested. It was quite good with a long jet of ketchup added by me. The side of baked beans rather than fries was an excellent upgrade. Disappointing was the bun used to hold the pieces together. Rather than offering the locally traditional Kummelweck Roll with kosher salt and caraway seeds on top, they used a plain white bread bun that lacked taste, and promptly began to fall apart with the first bite. Knife and fork were the only tools available to deal with this shortcoming. I would have loved to try this special roll even at an up charge, but it wasn't offered, and I didn't think to ask after hours on the road. The overall experience was enjoyable, but could have reached apex had that touch of local culinary distinction been made part of the show. read more

Came here after a long hike at Letchworth. We got local craft beers while we waited for our food and they were delicious! We appreciated the mixed crowd of mostly local people there on a Saturday evening. We got beef on weck which came highly recommended by the server with fries and grilled cheese with tomato soup. The grilled cheese was buttery and the portions for both meals were on the generous side. We almost picked another place nearby to eat but soooo glad this was what was settled on. A great little find for a bite. It's hard to find a place that does it right in small towns. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich which was really yummy. I almost don't want to tell you how good so I can get a table whenever I'm hungry. Try a craft beer with your meal. Was driving through Warsaw for work when we passed this place. It looks very unassuming from the road but the saloon like doors once you get through the street entrance doors are pretty cool. This place reminds me of a place you would take your parents. It has all the feels of nostalgia but the decor inside is actually nice. I had the chicken parm sandwich with fries and a buddy ordered a blt wrap with curly fries. Good diner/restaurant food overall. The breaded chicken on my sandwich was definitely fresh which very welcome on something that could be considered a heavy meal. Had to dock them a point though due to the fact that the fries had to be ordered separate from the sandwich. To me nowadays that just isn't common. But if you're passing through or in town stop in. The staff is friendly and the soup smelled good. I'm sad I didn't go that route. read more

Wife and I had a delicious chicken salad entree (each) here with two glasses of quite affordable and entirely serviceable chardonnay in some of the loveliest crystal stemware we've seen in any restaurant. 1st time at Laurie's. Very neat and clean. Solid burger, outstanding fries!! We also had a turkey club which was very good and packed with turkey. Prices are very fair and they have a great menu. Noticed lots of folks taking out pizza so it must be pretty good. I will definitely go back. read more

Normally this is the kind of place I'd love -- above-average food and small-town ambiance. Unfortunately I had an awful experience there today. Let me preface this by saying I'm very polite. I say "please" and "thank you" and almost always get reciprocal treatment. That didn't happen here. There are two waitresses: an older woman and a younger one. I had the misfortune of drawing the older one. She had the demeanor and charm of a prison-guard. She ignored my polite friendliness and treated me like crap. I must resemble her ex-husband because she threw my plate on the table as if I didn't deserve food and snarled at me the rest of the time. I almost got up and left twice. I noticed she wasn't bad toward all the customers. A couple of old ladies came in after me. The waitress sat down with them and chatted like they were best friends. I was travelling from Toronto to New York City and desperately needed to look at a map for directions. I fired up my iPad and was relieved to see the restaurant has WiFi. I asked the waitress for the password. She looked at me like I'd just barfed and said they didn't have WiFi. She said this as I'm staring at a WiFi network named "Lauries" on my iPad. I got the message. This otherwise nice restaurant is spoiled by a rude waitress. Beware. read more
