Friday Fish Special with fries and loaded potato salad

Great place when in the area, we were staying in town for a Letchworth State Park visit. Both had the large fish special, with two sides, and shared a bowl if New England Clam Chowder. The fish was huge, very tasty, fried perfectly with a great beer batter crunch. The sides were all really good, had the seasoned fries, loaded potato salad, broccoli salad and mashed potatoes, all outstanding. Had a couple of great IPA's on tap as well. Highly recommend if in the area, reasonably priced great food and great service.

After crossing into the USA on the Peace Bridge, I drove Route 20A east for about 40 minutes until reaching the Village of Warsaw, N.Y. I stopped there for my first meal of the day at Laurie's Restaurant. The green awning over the front windows was slightly torn, but was a good flag for the business. Walking in, the dining room was nicely appointed with restored red brick wall and tintype ceiling. High back wood booths lined both sides. I settled into the last table on the left side closest to the kitchen. The lone server stopped by with menu and welcomed me. She was friendly and informed me a little of the history of the place. Sadly, Laurie was no longer with us, and her niece Robyn was now in charge. The kitchen is known for Beef and Weck Sandwiches, famous in the Buffalo region. Not a roast beef guy, I went with their large burger with cheddar, red onion and lettuce. It arrived medium finish as requested. It was quite good with a long jet of ketchup added by me. The side of baked beans rather than fries was an excellent upgrade. Disappointing was the bun used to hold the pieces together. Rather than offering the locally traditional Kummelweck Roll with kosher salt and caraway seeds on top, they used a plain white bread bun that lacked taste, and promptly began to fall apart with the first bite. Knife and fork were the only tools available to deal with this shortcoming. I would have loved to try this special roll even at an up charge, but it wasn't offered, and I didn't think to ask after hours on the road. The overall experience was enjoyable, but could have reached apex had that touch of local culinary distinction been made part of the show.

    a sandwich and onion rings

Delicious roast beef sandwich that was tender and juicy along with giant onion rings. So glad we found this restaurant in our travels.

This food was really expensive, and all of it- cheeseburger, beef on weck, and turkey sandwich - tasted horrible. Pure shit. Do not go.

We were told to sit wherever we wanted so we did. Our waitress took our drink orders right away. We both opted for black coffee. The coffee was pretty good, but I'm not exactly a coffee snob. I ordered the Breakfast Garbage Plate with sausage, homefries, and scrambled eggs. It comes smothered in sausage gravy which I happen to really enjoy. The serving size was generous and I thought my food was pretty good. The only gripe I had was the potatoes could've been cooked a little more. Some of them were a bit firm. My friend ordered the Hungryman Plate. He says it was decent but had similar complaints about the potatoes. They were also a little underseasoned. Again, the serving size was generous, especially the pancakes. My friend shared the pancakes with me but unfortunately they were a little lackluster. They were a bit soggy which was disappointing. They weren't completely inedible, but we didn't finish them. The waitress noticed and asked if we needed a to-go container. We said yes but we weren't aware that we would be charged $0.75 to take something to go. Not a huge deal, but it's annoying to feel like you're getting nickel and dimed. Since the pancakes were just meh we probably would've just left them if we had known we'd be charged extra to take them. It seems like breakfast options were limited in the area, but John & Sarah's is a totally OK place. I wouldn't be opposed to returning if I were in the area.

The food came out extremely slow. We waited for 45 minutes, for a table of 5. There were only a few people there at the time. She offered to box up the food since we spent so much time waiting we had to leave. The next problem was our food was very inconsistent. My sister had the junk plate and my son had the junk fries and they both loved their food. My sister said it was one of the better "garbage plate" type meals she's had. Me and my mom not as good. My mom said the soup was lacking any flavor and was not good at all. The main problem with our meals was we both had the egg and olive sandwich. Tasted good until at different times we both bit into egg shells. Happened more than once to the point I didn't want to eat anymore because I didn't know to expect an eggshell. Therefore both me and my mom could not finish our meals. I posted a pic so you can see it's a big piece of shell.

Service was a little off. She got my order wrong then disappeared. As a result I really couldn't do anything about it. Also, she gave me my coffee, cream, and sugar. But she didn't give me anything to stir it with (again disappearing). She was a young girl so I'll mark it off to inexperience. If I was in the area, I would go back.

A different waitress came with the menu and took our drink orders; reasonably friendly. A group of farmer looking folks walked in (classic overalls, fishing caps etc) and looked at us like we just stole their spot or something- guy even pointed at us when talking to the person behind the counter then the waitress returns to take our orders and I asked her why they were looking at us that way and she said she really didn't know but they stopped after we ordered *shrug* My son said his burger was exceptionally delicious and my Philly Steak sandwich was very good, French fries were exceptional for a diner. Clean and reasonably comfortable; they only had a single bathroom so I guess you can call it gender neutral. Place is retro; modern by mid-twentyish century standards. Service was very good overall, She served out food promptly / hot and out glasses were never empty I didn't have enough cash but they accepted a (good) check. (No credit/debit card service or ATM)
