Thanks to Brittany, Laurie's has won my future business. I have an antique framed print that I was given after my grandmother passed away. A few weeks ago, the sawtooth on the back fell off. Part of the charm of this print is the wooden gilded frame, so I wanted to have it repaired, not replaced. I called several frame shops who said they won't/don't do repairs. When I called Laurie's, Brittany was so friendly and helpful and asked me to send her a picture and she would let me know. I sent the pic and she replied she could fix it. I brought it in today, and she was indeed able to put a new sawtooth on. I am so grateful and happy to have it hanging back on my wall. During her consultation, she examines the art, asks all the right questions and even some unexpected ones that really help her design around it; who's it for, what's the lighting going to be like, where's it going, etc....but the real talent is when she hand picks what she thinks is best for the art. It's weird, but her first pick is generally the right selection. Of course, she'll humor you and allow you to try 10 million other combinations, but when it gets right down to it, she knows what she's doing. Have used her for quite few years spending thousands of $$ there without issues. Been between a year or 2 since last visit. Went in on a Saturday couple weeks ago. There were a couple guys she was attending so I waited. I'm positive she recognized me but she did not acknowledge me. These 2 boys kept going on and on and on with her seemingly trying to save $25 or something. After about 20 minutes of standing around and waiting another guy walks in. During a short pause with her conversation with the other 2 boys the guy that had recently walked in butted in in front of me and asked "Can I just ask you a question? Won't take more than 30 seconds". Well...it took more than 30 seconds and Laurie did not have the courtesy to acknowledge me to at least ask if I would mind if she answered his question. So she attends to him and when she's done she goes back to speaking with the other 2 boys. By now I have been standing around waiting patiently for near 30 minutes and finally she comes up to me (I'm holding my art piece with me) and asks if I could leave the piece there and go find something to do for a half hour or hour and by the time I come back she can discuss with me. I had driven from Woodland Hills in 101 freeway traffic in order to come back and do more business with her. I had 3 other large paintings in the trunk of my car. Anyway, when she asked me to "come back later" I told her absolutely Not. If I have a pet peeve and the one thing I cannot stand it was BAD customer service. I give her 4 to 5 stars for workmanship but as a long-standing client that has spent thousands of $$$ there and to be ignored for 30 minutes I give her a ZERO for service. I'm seeking a new alternative. read more

After my dad passed we came to Laurie to frame some of his personal items into a shadow box. We weren't sure what to expect but when the entire family saw the outcome we were in complete awe. It was so beautiful, she framed it in such a way that we knew she poured a lot of care into it after hearing stories shared with her about my father. Thank you Laurie!!! I was in a jam and Laurie totally took care of me. I had taken a piece of art to one of those larger chain stores who also sell art supplies. It was a birthday gift for someone special and I was told that the piece would take up to two weeks. On day 12 I called to check progress and was informed at that time that the frame they custom ordered for me had been lost by UPS. There was no way my artwork was going to be ready on time. I called Laurie at 11:00AM, went in to see her at noon, picked up the beautifully framed artwork at 5:00PM. She saved the day! She was fast, reasonable and super nice! She also has an amazing eye. She showed me what I thought I wanted and then threw in a suggestion of her own, which was way better (and cheaper) than what I was going for! Thanks again Laurie!!! read more

Be careful having things framed here. I had to SUCCESSFULLY SUE Laurie Stokes owner Laurie's Flash Framers in the Van Nuys Civil Court to get my money back after she botched up the job. I brought her a tapestry from India to be framed. She told me that she knew how to frame this kind of art. I trusted her. She used plexiglass instead of museum glass because she told me that that was the best way to frame it. I never questioned the cost to frame it. (She charged over 1,300 dollars). When I had the piece hung on the wall, it was difficult to clearly see the art. But she told me that it would be many thousands of dollars more to use museum glass on the piece. I accepted her statement. Within two months the art work fell inside the frame. I took it to another framer. He showed me that Laurie had used an improper method to hang the tapestry causing it to fall. She used a few little plastic clips to hold the piece up in the frame. They broke from the weight. He reframed it using metal line so that it could never fall. He also told me that it should have been framed using museum glass. I told her and even gave her the name of the framer who she called. The new framer told me that she didn't use museum glass because she said she didn't know (Nothing to do with cost). She refused to give me my money back so that I could have it reframed. Ferguson did a great job putting it in the frame properly and used museum glass and he charged me about the same amount to put the museum glass on that she charged for the plexiglass. After making oral and written demand for my money ,I had to sue her. I was successfully in the Van Nuys court. She was shocked when the judge told her that I was correct in having my art reframed by another framer that I didn't need to go back to her. I would not go back there since she didn't what she was doing in the first place. She was ordered to pay me within 30 days. She even failed to follow the court order. I had to send her a judgement debtor form and another demand that if she didn't pay me I I would again go back to the court. She finally sent me my money. You don't need this kind of hassle. There are plenty of qualified framers in L.A. That will do the framing correctly . read more
