After a long period of time, I did finally get the custom blouse I ordered with the right measurements for me. Now, first off I'm NOT in the demographic of this shop. I'm a cheapskate, don't have a trillion dollars to my name & was only here because I saw a deal on Gilt City. However, this turned out to be a good thing since I got a blouse design I liked & it seems I needed even less than the standard XS size since when I initially got it, you could see my strapless bra peeking out from the sides and the front. After some alterations, the blouse was perfect. I would have liked some better follow up when I was told I'd hear something; usually, I had to call to get a status update. I'd also be more likely to return if prices were more favorable to me but I do like the fact that A) you can get custom made items here (I have a blouse I'd consider for this) & B) they have a factory in the US that does there work. So shopping here is a win for local business & you'll get quality in a reasonable time frame. I would have liked some more personable treatment & regard with some of the other staff than I got from the very first person I met with (perhaps taking my measurements from the outset would have prevented a need for further work?) but overall, not a bad place. Perhaps I'll have a store to go to for future tailoring needs since I've said I'll eventually have to have my own tailor/alternations person to look decent in a business suit (should I ever need one). read more

Lauren made my beautiful custom wedding dress in just two weeks. After the first fitting it needed an alteration, which she turned around in just 3 days. She was speedy, responsive, and great to work with! The dress is made beautifully of high quality fabrics and was perfect for the old Hollywood, not-too-weddingish dress I was looking for. Like any red carpet look I needed a little fabric tape but that's to be expected for a backless, plunge dress. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone and would go back to her without hesitation! read more

Had to go here for a bridal party, would never have chosen the aesthetic for myself. Needed the dress hemmed, as I'm only 5'2, which they did, and when I went to open it for the wedding day, I realized that the hem had been run through a sewing machine, which is never how I would have imagined a hem done on a formal dress! Additionally, the dress wasn't pressed, which I've never seen when you have something altered by a designer. Luckily the hotel had an iron! Overall, not a great value for the dollar, and I'm sure we got a discount as being in the bridal party, but it wasn't enough for the quality. I know that others had issues with their dresses for the wedding as well, but I can't comment on their details. Wouldn't recommend personally. read more

A very talented designer in a beautiful shop in SoHo, Lauren creates a wide variety of timeless pieces that are always with a subtly modern yet clearly feminine flair. The fabrics that you can choose to customize your clothing with are a beautiful quality (I really love the Juliet dress made with wool crepe) and the number of colors to pick from make you want one in every possible shade. Lauren also really knows how to work with leather - that leather cowl neck jacket (and not to mention again, the Juliet dress)? To die for. Coming into the shop you know right away that Lauren loves what she does and wants to help you look amazing - and you can't help but feel immediately comfortable with her. Stay away from this woman!!! Most disastrous service I have ever experienced in my entire life. My sisters and I paid Lauren thousands of dollars in order to have our bridesmaids dresses made, thinking we would have beautiful custom-made gowns for our sister's wedding. In the end, everything that could have gone wrong in the process of getting these dresses made actually went wrong. I am going to spare you the grueling process that we went through in order to have these dresses made. Fast forward to the day before the wedding (when Lauren finally "finished" the dresses), one of my sisters literally cannot fit into her dress - at all. There were a good six inches open where the zipper was supposed to close - the dress was about 3 full sizes too small! When we asked Lauren to fix this, she said "there's nothing I can do about it... sorry." We had to force my sister into the dress to the point where her entire torso was visibly being squooshed by it. This is how she attended the wedding. Another one of my sisters literally ended up with no dress - at all, because what came out of Lauren's totally out-of-wack sewing machine was basically a frumpy, disaster of a dress which didn't fit in a single place....We had to run around the city the day of the wedding to find another tailor who could put something together for her at the very last minute using the fabric that was left of the dress. All the dresses, for which Lauren charged $800 a piece, came out looking like they were worth $15. Seams were totally crooked, zippers misplaced (awkwardly positioned not in the center of the back but a few inches off to the side, and forming a U-shape down the back, as opposed to a line), straps uneven, my dress even had a silly water stain on the back...the list goes on. When we initially consulted with Lauren about how we wanted the dresses to look, my sisters and I told her we wanted a chiffon tops. At every "fitting" with her, we showed up expecting a chiffon top, with no such thing having been completed. Each and every time we reminded her about the chiffon, she made up a different excuse as to why it couldn't be done. Up until today, no chiffon on the dresses. You ask Lauren to shorten the dress so its just hitting the floor, and the dress is suddenly above the ankles. You ask her to lengthen it, and suddenly you have five extra inches dragging on the ground. When you ask her to shorten it again, she rolls her eyes and says "well, you said you wanted it longer." Keep in mind, this woman never uses a tape measure, ever - she literally eyeballs every measurement, so it would be a miracle if she ever did get the right fit. Ultimately Lauren is incompetent and very lazy. She has a passive and bratty attitude, and is uncommunicative. She is of the camp of people whom you can ask a bazillion times to do something, and never does it, and when you finally remind her about that thing for the umpteenth time, she drives you out of your mind by responding with "you never asked for that". Overall, a nightmare. I wouldn't wish upon anyone that they go through what we went through in planning a garment for a special occasion. read more

The first time I saw one of Lauren's designs was on Bethenny Frankel. She wore a fabulous red dress for the premier episode of her Bravo Reality show Bethenny Ever After. I am partial to red and this was the perfect red. After finding out that Lauren Gabrielson was the designer I I contacted her and she assured me if it didn't fit right or I didn't like it I could send it back. Based on the info I gave her she helped me pick the size as well as the length. When it arrived I couldn't wait to try it on. it was perfect and could not fit any better. This was definitely the first of many pieces I plan to buy from Lauren. She definitely has a true talent and I am sure the secret will not be a secret for long. I am so happy I found her. Lauren's boutique is so cute and charming, and in a great neighborhood. I couldn't help but go in and check the place out, and I guess I got lucky because Lauren herself was there that day and gave me the time and attention to make me feel like a movie star. Her attention to detail in design and personal interactions is hard to find in NYC these days. The dress fit exquisitely off the rack and was of the highest quality. She let me know that she also does personal fittings and designs which would be great for a special occasion, or bridesmaids dresses. She is so sweet and nice and shopping at her store is truly a fun experience. This is my very first yelp and I am writing this because I had such a great experience and after reading the other reviews of laurens store, I find it so hard to believe them. I went to Lauren for my sisters wedding there were 6 of us and all of us (who are very picky) loved the outcome of our bridesmaid gown. The dress couldn't be any more perfect. Best part of it is that we only had one dress fitting and was perfect to my body and to the other girls. Lauren , BRAVO ! I can't wait to put the dress on for my sisters big day its perfect. Living in the Upper East Side, I make it my mission to discover all the talent that goes on in SoHo. As of now I am a great fan of silk and light shirts to pair with all of my blazers. Being the working girl that I am, I adore simple yet elegant touches to my wardrobe. My first time in Lauren's store was after I grabbed lunch with a friend across the street at our favorite cafe on Mott St. We decided to browse around for our other friend's anniversary gift. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with vibrant colors left and right. Within minutes we were able to find our friend a beautiful silk blouse with soft shell buttons! The attendants were very helpful. My friend told me that eventually she loved the buttons but wanted a different color. Shortly after bringing it to the store, Lauren called her saying it was ready for pick up. We highly recommend this store for a different, chic look ( hint hint: be the first to wear her anywhere!) read more

I am reposting this because it looks like it was removed which is AWFUL - and this needs to be known by other people looking to purchase from Lauren and her store - i posted it on 11/8/13 and believe it was removed.... I ordered an after party dress for my wedding. In the end, the dress was perfect and exactly what I was looking for, however, the process was HORRIBLE and the customer service was extremely slow. Lauren lacked much professionalism. I live in Boston, so I was not looking to customize a simple after party dress that would take 5 appointments of traveling to the Bridgehampton or NYC store to get right . It wasn't worth the stress! I ordered the dress in Bridgehampton, Lauren took my measurements and requests on how I wanted the dress to look. I left that afternoon after making my next appt for a month from then in the NYC store. My feelings and excitement at this point for this dress and Lauren were so great. A few weeks later I take off work and traveled to NYC for the appt. Lauren forgot to write down the appt and didn't show up for the appt - no apology made and no sympathy for the fact that costumers of hers just traveled from Boston for an appt. Then the next appt I traveled to NYC for, she made the dress, however, she did not adhere to ANY of the measurements or requests that we had made - once again, no apology. She actually said "well we cant do anything about the past so we will just have to move forward from here" - rude! So, the next appt, was at the bridgehampton store, and some of the sizing was adjusted but it was soooo short! I am not very conservative, but you could see my behind in this dress! So we called Lauren told her the issue (because she wasnt in the store) and we discussed how it needed to be fixed (again no apology) - emphasizing that more material needed to be added to the bottom of the dress, and MORE needed to be added to the back than the front). If the measurements were adhered to strictly from the very beginning, this wouldnt have been an issue - So we left ... And the 4th appt, she added material, but didn't add more in the back than the front and so the front was a good length, but still a little short in the back ... and the 5th appt - we couldn't even bother dealing with Lauren again, so we didn't go - I wore the dress as it was, a little short in the back, but better then before! I would only recommend this boutique if you have a LONG time and a lot of patience for her process. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere! The product was pretty good in the end, but should never have took as long as it did. Lauren's concern for her clients time was very unprofessional and frusturating to work with. read more

Worst experience ever. Unprofessional, charged a lot, and delivered a sub-standard dress that required several alterations and still looks terrible. A giant mistake on all fronts. I still can't believe how bad the whole experience was. Save yourself time, money, and aggravation, go somewhere else. On top of paying a lot for something truly unwearable, Lauren was totally unprofessional, unsympathetic, unavailable, but quick to collect her money. This is my very first yelp review not because I have never had anything to say about a business before but because my friend wrote a very honest and fair review that the designer of this shop had taken down. That is an outrage so now I, a very complacent NYer, am stepping up. I came to this shop because my friend had chosen it to make our bridesmaids dresses. I came in 5 times to have my dress altered after the initial measurements were taken. The problems with my dress were neither severe nor uncorrectable. However, after all of my visits, it still bore many of the same issues as it did at my first fitting. I did not like that the designer seemed to ignore or discount my complaints. She refused to see problems with her dress and her seamstress was unable to fix them. Her pride or ego get in the way of good customer service which mades the experience all the worse. Now, I did not complain as much as the other bridesmaids and my dress was okay in the end (even with an uneven hem, strings hanging off everywhere and buckling and sagging in the chest), but it was not worth the $350 I paid for it and the time I spent visiting her store to have the same alterations made. I was livid to hear that she refunded many of the other bridesmaids but I am still out $350 and 10 hours of my life. The designs are nice but the execution and customer service are lacking. I would not recommend having something custom made here unless you have deep pockets and loads of patience. read more

Beyond irresponsible and unprofessional! We met with the designer/owner at a bridal trade show almost a year ago; selling her custom products to retail stores! She was pleasant, fun and very passionate about her work. As all proffessionals, in the bridal field, there is a respect and understanding that is involved with certain situations/clients; she went on and on how no one gets custom, etc. Complain!! Complain!! Complain!! We went through the line, as a team and there were some great pieces, a bit pricier than we wanted to sell for reception/rehearsal/bridal shower dresses, but they were silk and uniquely designed... So we decided to pick up the line on the spot without much research. 4-5 months later we received the entire line, with half the dresses in poor condition (snags, tags missing, hook & eyes not sewn in, dirty oil marks, etc.). There were 4 that could not be placed on the floor and have been sitting in my office for 9 months. Why 9 months? As an effort to remedy the situation, the designer promised a new swatch card and call tag. We were promised a return tag to send the dresses back and to replace them with non-marked, non-snagged dresses with labels in them and hook and eyes added.. All things that should have passed the inspection process before making it to us. The call tag may or may not have arrived, but we asked for a new one months ago and still have no resolution of the gowns that arrived in February! I am dumbfounded, that it has taken so much effort on our part to receive a return label for our original stock order. There have been e-mails back and forth since February and continuing through May about this matter about the dissatisfaction of our stock order; and now there is no correspondence on their end. I guess, we learned an expensive lesson as a bridal salon ourselves. As a new customer especially, we would hope that you would try to impress a new potential repeat client. Obviously, the brand Lauren Gabrielson does not care enough to respond or put someone else in charge of it, since they took our funds. I hoped for a response weeks ago and have been ignored. So we have decided to cut our losses, mark the dresses on the floor at 50% off and know that small business owners don't all like to have complete satisfaction of their customers. Meeting her in New York Market was a pleasure, but I am truly disappointed in the professional aspect and her lack of communication, since clearly her name and brand are on the line. I just happened upon Lauren Gabrileson's beautiful shop while wandering around Nolita last Spring. She had just opened the shop and had not had the "Grand Opening" yet. The colors and fabrics drew me inside. I go to talking with Lauren, who is a Gem by the way and it turns out we are both from Michigan originally. Her small shop is beautifully decorated and the clothes are divine and all of quality fabric. You can pick out a style you like, then pick out the color of fabric and have a piece tailor made for you. She also has some ready made pieces in the store...of which I bought a lovely little dress that I have worn too many times to count. My friend bought the same dress in a different color but wanted it to be shorter in lenght, more like a tunic and Lauren had the garment made to her liking and sent it on to her. I am now waiting for a tie neck blouse to come that ordered...can't wait to feel its silkiness! If you want a special piece that a million other women are not wearing, get to the store and browse....you probably won't leave empty handed. read more

What an overrated crap shoot. I went to this boutique thinking great custom quality clothing - yeah not so much. The "designer" was stand offish and uses templates rather then custom designs. In addition, the material that is offered is low quality rather than Italian silks, linens, or cottons. I don't know about most but I certainly don't feel like paying designer prices for something I can get from any chinatown custom design shop minus the cost or attitude. I'm pretty sure the owner/designer is not classically trained as in hasn't attended a design school like Parsons --- unless working for Tommy Hillfiger's no named daughter counts as a qualification. Don't buy into the gimmick this is not a custom design boutique more like a young princess playing dressup. read more

I just received a dress that I had Lauren make for my daughter's graduation and it's PERFECT! It was exactly as I had ordered and absolutely beautiful. Lauren and her assistant, Melissa, could not have been more pleasant or professional to work with and I will definitely return in the future. When my package went missing (Fed Ex dropped it at the wrong house!) Lauren was in constant communication with me trying to help me find it - something I know she probably didn't have time for! I found Lauren Gabrielson by chance when shopping for a non-traditional wedding ceremony dress. I was extremely happy with what I found and the entire experience working with Lauren and her colleague was fantastic. The dress made was elegant and simple. I splurged and even had a leather jacket made to go with the dress which turned out to be essential as mountain weather changes very quickly. No complaints. Would be happy to find another excuse to work with Lauren again. read more

Lauren is extremely unprofessional. I asked her to design a dress and gave her the template to copy it from. The first fitting I went for, the dress was not ready. She didn't call or warn me and I had ordered the dress two months prior. It took three fittings to get this dress to look right and every time I would complain, she would ignore me for days and then have her assistant call me back instead of calling me directly. She is too busy expanding her business that she is neglecting the quality. There are other designers out there, for a cheaper price, that will appreciate your business, act professional and not waste your time like she did. In fact, there is one on the same street - Mott Street and Prince. It is called Blue. Ask for Christina - she is very talented and will charge half the price. read more

Lauren Gabrielson has a phenomenal aesthetic. Hip and modern yet extremely willing to customize a dress from her line to suit you and your taste. Lauren has a great eye for colors, shapes and lengths that will work for you. I have bought several pieces from Lauren and she is always willing to make alterations, change the color of a button, etc. (after a purchase has been made and even worn). Lauren is amiable, helpful, and fun to work with. She has a great memory for previous pieces I have purchased and comes up with great suggestions for adding to my closet so I have a range of colors and styles as well as professional and party wear. Whether buying one of her designs or having her customize a piece for you, you will love your new clothing and feel beautiful in it! read more

This review is for custom clothing service/quality I had been looking for a camel-colored winter coat for over two years, so my boyfriend surprised me with a visit to Lauren's store in April 2012 to create a custom coat for my birthday. Admittedly I am not the best decision-maker, and as a first timer to the whole bespoke outerwear process, I was a bit overwhelmed. As a designer, it would be helpful if Lauren could guide her customers through the process and also pay particular attention to the details. In my experience, there were a number of instances when Lauren either did not note specific details or she forgot, so I would need to follow-up with her in fittings or via e-mail. This ultimately resulted in me not receiving my coat until November. Even then, not all of the details were as I wanted, but at that point in time I wanted to be done with the process and I wanted the coat in my possession. I do plan to take the coat elsewhere to have the buttons and belt buckle swapped out so they have the same finish. The other thing that really irked me was the extra charge for monogramming. This is standard on bespoke suiting, furs, etc. and the end result on my coat looks amateurish whether or not it is on grosgrain. Lauren herself is nice, personable and has a good personality. The store is cute and her clothing is feminine and attractive, so I would consider shopping here for ready-to-wear items if I was looking for something special (it's a bit pricey for my budget). For anyone looking for a custom piece of outerwear, I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I do not usually write a review but I found Lauren Gabrielson to be a poor choice when shopping for a dress. Two years back I had a dress made for my son's wedding. I knew exactly the style dress that I wanted but I needed her assistance in ornamenting the dress. I am a tall woman who wanted an oversized dress made with open three quarter sleeves. Well she got that right but was so poor in putting any finishing touches on the dress. She had her people paste some cheap stones on it - which made a $450.00 silk dress look like a Kohls special. I asked her to revise it and she had no designer talent. I therefore asked for the neckline to be trimmed in a navy lace together with the hemline - thinking that would not cheapen the dress. She told me she could not find the lace to do the hem, only the neckline. Therefore, since I was traveling in a couple of days to Michigan for the ceremony I accepted the dress the way it was. It was all creased so I asked for her to press it. When I when to her store on Mott street - the dress was not ready - she called so local tailor she sent it to down the street and lo and behold the merchant came running down the street with the dress. When I got home I took off the plastic and found it to be a mess - I was in tears feeling so depressed about the final product. I am writing this review today because I actually took the dress to another dressmaker to make some changes on it so I could wear it to another party - figuring someone could make it look better. At that time I was told that the silk material was not really silk and it was cut horizontally - which was incorrect and this caused the fabric to crease. Also her seams were less that 1/2 wide - sewn together as if a student was learning to sew. What a disaster and I am sorry to say Lauren Gabrielson you should be ashamed of yourself - you are a disgrace to the fashion interest. read more

Lauren is great!! She helped me create the perfect prom dress. She worked closely with me through meetings and e-mails to create exactly what I wanted. Lauren is unique because she is not like other custom dressmakers who you meet with once, design a dress and are in the dark until you recieve the final product. She works with you closely and involves you in each step so you know exactly what is being done to your dress until it is perfect. She really cares for her customers and will make sure you get what you want. read more
