Many of the local places had few or mixed reviews and we were hoping to not have to go very far out of the way. It took 20 minutes and £10 for a large washer to wash all of our clothes and £5 for 40 minutes in the dryer (recommended by the helpful staff). I felt this was a fair price as many other reviews locally listed excessive pricing as a concern. I felt at ease; it wasn't too busy on a summer Friday afternoon and we popped down the street to have a coffee while we waited. Baskets available for convenience inside. Would recommend for other travellers.

These shirts went into the washer with zero stains and now two of them are ruined. I'm sure most people don't have this problem but I would be careful using their machines. Luckily the shirts aren't white but that still doesn't take away from the fact that the stains are very much obvious. They will not be receiving my business again.

So, I've now been going here for months, and have had absolutely no idea that this place is called…read more'Smartypants.' Go figure. My flat has a washer, but no dryer, and there was just no way I was going to trust a mere clothes horse to dry my thick, woolly jumpers, bed sheets, and duvet cover in the dead of winter. No, sir. So since Smartypants (I feel so strange now using its real name) is pretty much directly across the street from my flat, I thought I'd give it a try. This place is like any standard, self-serve coin laundromat, though they do have dry cleaning, alterations, and laundering services. I've never tried them, because all I usually need is a dryer (or two). The dryers are big, and quite powerful, but expensive to use at £1 per 15 minutes of drying. I've never had to spend more than £3 on one load -- which is not too pricy, but it really does add up. Especially when one of the employees notices you trying to stuff too many clothes into one drying cycle, and forces you to use an additional machine...on multiple occasions.... This business is owned by a Bengali family, as a lot of places in Bethnal Green are. While I'm not being prejudice, at ALL, I think it's absolutely hilarious/confusing/unexpected that this family has hung labelled art prints on all of the walls of the laundromat, displayed as they were in an art gallery. Also, there's a huge, geometric mural reading 'HEARTBREAK' on the window, and a matching one the wall above the till, reading 'DRY CLEANING.' Classic Shoreditch. All in all, this place does what it needs to do -- nothing more, nothing less. A solid A-OK, according to Yelp's star-rating system. Pro tip: They only take £1 and 20p coins in the machines, but the guy at the till will break most bills for you. Brill (I had to).

But whilst looking for a little saving grace for some dodgy cumbersome buttons on a favourite jacket, and an emergency 'stitch and go' on an important pair of work trousers, this grubby yet helpful establishment found me five identical buttons (without extra charge), and a swift one day turnaround on a pair of trousers which had been quoted a 'three day' job. All of this for a measly 12 bob. I was all sewn up for that deal.

About 10-12 washers line the walls on the right and left. 4-5 dryers line the back wall. Most of the washers held one load and there was one that held two loads. The dryers were larger than the washers and could easily hold 2+ loads. Detergent was sold there if needed. There were attendants at the laundromat when we visited around midday. They distributed the detergent and helped move things along. Several baskets were available to help transport clothing from one machine to the next and to remove clothing from the dryer while trying to find a spot to fold clothing. That last part was tricky since the only spot to do this was on top of machines or the floor. It was easier to just stuff the clean clothing into a bag and do the folding elsewhere. Folding the clothing directly out of the machine wasn't an option as it took too much time and prevented others from using the dryer. I also noticed that the laundromat offered a drop off service as well, but didn't see any rates posted.

It was about five quid for the dryer and thank god they didn't weigh it out because it was a lot of clothes, but the lady let me get away with it. There are 10 washers and 8 dryers, benches throughout the laundromat, and baskets to borrow above machines. The machines do take credit cards if you don't have any pounds. The only thing was the machines were a bit pricey. £7-10 to wash and £1 for every 5 minutes of dryer use, though this could be normal for London. If you need to purchase liquid or powder detergent, it's £1.50 (coins or card). There is an employee there if you need anything, she greeted me when I walked in and explained the pricing on the machines.
