Because I could not stomach the hotel prices (£11 to wash a pair of pants) and because many of my clothes needed to be air dried, I walked around the corner from my hotel and did my wash here. I expected a larger American style laundromat where I would read my book and wait for the wash cycle to complete, but it was a tiny place with one chair but it was close and stuffy. Since there are plenty of cafes just a stone's throw away, I put my things in and bought a cup of tea at the nearby cafe.
The lady attending the launderette was so pleasant and helpful. She was able to provide me with the change I needed and sell me the washing powder as well (and happily for me it was unscented as I don't like the heavily perfumed detergents.) I think there are 4 or 5 dryers and 4 or 5 normal size front load washers with 4 washers for larger loads. It was much more expensive than I am used to in the US £4 for a single wash cycle and £1 for each 15 minutes in the dryer.
There was also a sizable library of free books to read and my husband became engrossed in a book on Richard Pryor. read more
