Great open atmosphere with great beer! Holy Ghost was perfect! No bitterness and smooth. Very friendly staff!

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite local breweries for sours! The peach kettle sour I ordered was so delicious that I ended up getting a 4-pack to bring back home. I also don't usually go for IPAs, but even the hazy IPA I tried a couple sips of was pretty good! The ambiance of this place could've been better though. I came here on a Friday evening, and it was fairly deserted. There's not much going on in this area surrounded by warehouses, so I prefer grabbing a 4-pack to go instead of staying here.

Outside view big chilln.

Great beer . Great environment. Always got me coming back . A1 friendly atmosphere. Uplifts the mood all the time . Get the flights like $18-20 for couple drinks . One of my favorite breweries. LAUGHING MONK

Great beer, casual ambiance, and a losing game of Sequence; my idea of a perfect afternoon.

As someone who did a deep dive into tabletop board games during the Covid shelter-in-place orders, I could either smile or run when I saw the wall of board games here at Laughing Monk. I smiled; these games are like old friends to me. Whether or not you're into board games, the beer here (all produced on-site) should get you through the doors. The one I was with enjoyed his usual, a high IBU IPA then followed up with an even higher IBU double IPA. I drank a mini-glass after tasting several that the bartender thought I'd like despite my preference for Cabernet. She helped me not only make a good choice but served it up in what I can only call a baby-bear glass, which was perfect for my pint-sized beer appetite. Appetite. Yes, that's actually what got me in here. Laughing Monk themselves serve no food but they currently have an arrangement with "Basil the Bold", a 5-star maker of delicious, hearty, Thai-inspired fare, a mere 3 minute walk from door to door. Come for the food stay for the beer or the other way around; both are excellent excuses to visit. Laughing Monk features uber-high ceilings and roll-up warehouse doors that open to the street (free, ample street parking), a set-up perfectly designed for the age we live in. I'm betting the air circulation here is better than that touted on commercial airlines, in case that's still concerning you. Games, beer, food, and fresh air, one (or all) of those ought to inspire a visit to this come-as-you-are, family/dog-friendly, unpretentious brewery which is deserving of one or many return visits.

To wrap up our San Francisco day, we stopped by Laughing Monk Brewing on our way out of town. My boyfriend loves IPAs and really loved the one that he tried here. I should have written down the name because now we can't remember it and I can't seem to find a tap list online. He thinks it was fruity and possibly had something to do with a milkshake or possibly a creamsicle. Whatever it was, he really wanted to get it in cans to-go but it wasn't available. We loved that the brewery was dog friendly, both inside and outside. They even brought over a bowl of water and treats for the dogs, which was greatly appreciated.

Can we bring our own food?

Hi There, You're always welcome to bring your own food, but we do have food trucks on our street…

Are children allowed in the tap room?

Yes

Is there food there or around there?

There wasn't food at Laughing Monk but the distillery/brewery next door has snacks. I bet they'll allow outside snacks.

Their beer is excellent, and I've heard nothing but great things about the place and people. We visited on a Sunday and met friends, who said it took a while to get a big table for us; it was surprisingly packed! It's a large industrial brewery, with the equipment chained off at the back. They make great use of the rest of the building with large tables, small tables, bar seating/standing room, plus an arcade area, outside seating area, and a few cozy living room style areas with stuffed furniture at the back. To the right on entry is the canned beer for takeout, to the left is their large bar and impressive tap list. We mostly get IPAs, so it was fun to try their other styles like rice lagers and a barleywine, everything was excellent. Their flights are huge, basically half size goblet pours in a six rack. Prices are reasonable for the well developed beer. They also had a food vendor outside, which we loved (see separate review). It's great to see a place equally rock great beer and a fun experience, I definitely look forward to returning sometime soon.

I'm so glad we did, it instantly lived up to the curiosity. The vibe here is exactly what you want from a brewery. It's unique, cool, and laid-back, with plenty of character and a strong sense of community. It feels welcoming whether you're popping in for one drink or planning to hang out for a while. The beer selection is great, with a nice variety of styles to choose from. Everything we tried was well crafted and enjoyable, making it easy to find something that fits your taste whether you like lighter beers or something a bit bolder. The space itself really adds to the experience. There's a relaxed energy that makes it a great place to meet friends, take a break while exploring the neighborhood, or just enjoy a good beer in a comfortable setting. Dogs welcome, which is nice too. I made a friend.

I went to a spot nearby and grab some food before heading my way up. You can gain access to this rooftop/State Park using the escalators that are within the sales tower building. The spot itself had a nice variety of beers to choose from. I ultimately went with their flight. That's five 5 oz pours for $25. Pretty much all that are available on the list can be selected minus the wine. I really enjoyed the jalapeño one I got.

Though the schedule seems a bit ad hoc since I've heard "the pizza guy got here late" (when I arrived at noon) and "the pizza guy might be going on break" (when I arrived at 2pm.) I think the beer people should be cross-trained on pizza, to avoid these situations. Cheese Pizza: A classic and a great benchmark pizza to establish their base quality. Love how the edges have crispy cheese, down the side and up above the pizza. The rest of the pizza is no slouch with lots of gooey cheese on top. Plus the generous sauce trenches on top give it some nice moisture. Buffalo Chicken Pizza: Not terribly traditional, but amazing flavors. Chicken chunks, lots of hot sauce, some cooling bleu cheese (on top of the regular cheese). Red onions and scallions for a zing. A great collab between Detroit and Buffalo. Bacon Me Crazy Pizza: The bacon drew me in, but the big mounds of ricotta won me over. Definitely the richest and more filling pizza I had here. A tad messy though, since the mound of cheese gets all over your lips and gives you a cheesy mustache.

After visiting a couple of art galleries in San Francisco on Saturday, January 11, 2025, I…read moreconvinced DJ that we should dine out in the city since we were already out. Remembering that he had been wanting to check out 21st Amendment for some years now, I suggested that we go here. DJ was immediately sold. After calling two to three times to no avail, we temporarily parked nearby, so that DJ could walk in to check if they were still open and serving dinner. Thankfully, they were open, but they didn't hear the phone ring. We reparked, then arrived shortly before 7:30 PM and were seated immediately. I had been at 21st Amendment before for a very enjoyable lunch with some colleagues back in November, 2019 and the place looked exactly how I remembered it. Venue: 4 stars. With concrete floors and walls with wooden tables and chairs & benches, the restaurant has a rustic and industrial air. Upon entry, patrons are greeted by the bar with seating and its attendants. They have an open kitchen from where the cooks can nod greetings to you. The entire space, including the women's restroom is kept clean & tidy. DJ's only complaint was that he did not enjoy some of the techno music that would play in between the salsa and reggaeton songs both of which I was totally digging. Food: 3 stars. In addition to the TALL HAT that DJ ordered and fully enjoyed, below-listed are the food items that we had. Soup of the Day, Gumbo ($7 cup) - I was given a couple of complimentary slices of toasted bread to accompany my New Orleans stew which were nice to dip in the broth and eat. I'm not quite sure what kind of meat was used, but there was no sausage. 21st Amendment's version of gumbo is more like a soup rather than a stew as the broth was not as thick as usual. The flavour was still good, but I did wish that there was okra. When I was at the bottom of the cup and asked how I liked the gumbo, I commented that I enjoyed it, but was surprised that it was completely absent of rice. Our server, Luis, went back to the kitchen to inquire, returned, informing me that the kitchen admitted to forgetting it, so with a new cup including rice in hand, he served the second serving to me and comped the cup from our bill. Wow, I was very impressed by how the matter was handled. Veggie Burger ($16) with Garlic Fries ($2) - DJ said that the sriracha flavour of the aioli was light/faint. He would have preferred a little more punch of spice from the condiment. The garlic fries were not bad. Baja Fish Tacos with mixed greens ($19) - The two tacos were very generous in portions and the fish were perfectly fried golden. I found the cod to be fishy in taste, so I gave my second taco to DJ. He did not notice any fishy flavour which is very interesting because he is a vegetarian and I expected him to notice it much more than I did. Weird. Meat Lover's PIZZA ($20) - We ordered two of these twelve inch pies for to-go for the boys. Both said that they were good. Service: 5 stars. As I mentioned before, Luis was our waiter and he delivered stellar service. As a former server, myself, I noticed immediately the excellent care we were given by him. The entire night, I kept commenting to DJ on every moment that Luis demonstrated his top-notch customer service. We will definitely need to come back...when Luis is working!

It's a cozy little brewery with a menu full of tempting options- apps, burgers, pizza, and tacos. I went with the meat lover's pizza and a hazy IPA, and both were excellent. I wish the atmosphere had been a bit more friendly and chatty, especially since it wasn't very busy.
