I've posted my praise a few times in Yelp talk over the years about Amy Skye Robinson's classes (ballet floor barre, ballet stretch, core conditioning, all/any!) that I take at Laughing Dog, but kept stalling when it came to writing the review. I kept feeling like I would sound like an infomercial. Well, her and her classes are still so deserving of that type of praise, so here goes...
I love Skye's classes and highly recommend them! They are very demanding, so come prepared to be challenged. But that is what makes them soooo rewarding as a result!! They have been incredible and life changing, giving my body a more toned and sexy shape, increasing flexibility, helping with losing weight, eliminating aches and tightness, and building needed strength, especially at that all important core. Even after being out due to a car accident and volleyball injuries, this is what has nurtured me back! My physical therapists are amazed!
Skye uses ballet positions for intense isometric stretching to stretch, strengthen, and tone. It is not a traditional ballet class, but it does teach one so much about proper technique, postures, and alignments, and actually has taught me more about ballet technique and appreciation than any traditional ballet classes I have ever taken. She may incorporate similar moves each time, but no two classes she creates are ever alike.
Skye's talent and grace astound, along with a killer body proving her years of teaching and training.
Newbies might feel intimidated, but never should, especially if you love being coached and pushed. We all had to go through the same break-in period to get the proper technique down, which can definitely feel different if not accustomed to it. And how refreshing to find an instructor that cares enough and is passionate enough about her class to make sure everyone is doing it right! It's what produces results!! And you WILL get results!!
It's not surprising to find many people in her classes who have been regulars for 5 - 10+ years!! Skye's continual attention, corrections, and descriptive instructions are what makes it equally challenging for beginners and experienced alike, as the more you keep learning, the harder it keeps getting as you work deeper, more fully engaged, and more intense. I'm still discovering new muscles!!
I was hooked from my first class almost 5 years ago! I don't hesitate to drive 35 minutes each way for this class. It is that worth it to me. I've also found the community to be so welcoming, supportive, and encouraging, and hopefully you will too!
This class is wonderful (and practically necessary) for improving mobility, strength, and flexibility in all ages. And while mostly female, it is very beneficial to men too, of which there are some occasional regulars (Hi Mr. Bob!).
Amy Skye Robinson has changed and literally saved my life...I am grateful! read more
