I love everything about The Bar Method Wellesley! From the kind and encouraging instructors to the…read morerelaxing studio setting, The Bar Method is the best workout I've ever done. There are so many things I love about this location: - A beautiful studio with a clean changing room (well stocked with lotion, dry shampoo, etc.) - A great front desk staff who are there to help if you call with a question - Instructors that make you feel supported from day one, giving great adjustments to make sure you are engaging safely with all the exercises and encouraging you to challenge yourself - Great music in all the classes - A different workout in every class, which pushes you to keep growing I'm so grateful for #TBMW!

I think the best part about this studio is the instructors. They are friendly, extremely attentive,…read morewill push you and encourages you to do the best for your workouts. They are the only reason I keep coming back. They will make sure you have the right postures. They will also help with modifications, and ensure that you are safe, if you have any sort of injuries or pregnant. The only con is when they are training for new instructors. I can definitely tell the difference between a seasoned instructor and a new one. Another con (for me) - they offer bar move, or level two, that are more intense, but not nearly enough (only 2 classes per week). I like the move and level two because I think they are harder. They also have a beautiful space, and friendly and helpful staff. The facts (not necessarily cons, but just what to expect): As to be expected for a place in Wellesley, you get what you pay for. It's pretty costly to go regularly. It is mostly women, with a certain look (read - nice yoga pants and pretty workout tops). But they are not judgmental, or I never felt judged. They dont have a separate men/women locker room. But you also dont sweat like crazy for these type of exercise, that you need to rinse or bring any change of clothes. They have cubbies right outside of the studio.

Having been to both Pure Barre Newton, and Pure Barre Boston, I was excited to learn that another…read morePure Barre was opening in Wellesley, near to where I attend school (You guys are following me aren't you, how am I supposed to make excuses to not fit gym time in now?). Honestly, Pure Barre is great - the workout is a 55 minute, low impact, based on isometrics and using your own body as the resistance. It's in the vein of pilates/ballet barre work that encourages that long lean dancers body, and gosh don't we all want that. The music they use is current and the instructors are incredibly encouraging and actually take the time to remember your name and help you with proper positioning. Personable instructors seems to be the standard across studios, which I love. A business focused on customer service, you don't say :) I got to check out what Wellesley Studio had going on last week for free (Thank you Lululemon Studio of the Month) and it is beautiful. It's located right in Linden Square, next to Hercules Cleaners & Sara Campbell. There wasn't a sign in yet when I went, but I expect there will be one soon. The space seems larger than the one in Newton, and parking is free. I enjoy the aesthetics, fabulous lighting, clean, comfy, and stress free. Everything a gal wants when sweating out what the day has put you through. And if that does work for you, there is even retail space in the front where you can get yourself a new workout outfit or just a little something special for all the hard work you just did. Or if you happen to have a shopping problem (what does that even mean), you can sign in as quickly as possible and head into the studio and try not to think about all the fancy accessories out front (Good luck). They too are up and running online, so you can reserve your spot in class ahead of time, which is my biggest recommendation. They also often run specials on packages, or have games where you can win free classes, so check them out and maybe I'll see you at the Barre.

I joined this place a couple months ago and for the most part absolutely love it. It's a tough…read moreworkout that gets harder the longer you do it. Not easier. The instructors are great and extremely supportive, helping you modify exercises if you are injured, or just weak in certain areas. However, one thing totally creeps me out. The number of people who walk into the studio barefoot. There is a sign that states that closed toe socks are required in the studio. But that doesn't stop the self-entitled Swellesley moms from trotting in barefoot, going to the back room to grab there equipment, then walking back into the studio to sit down and gossip with their friends (who saved them a spot like at the High School lunch table). Then getting around to putting their socks on. We spend lots of time on the floor - planks, sit ups, stretching. I don't want to lie on the floor and get athletes foot from some Swellesley Trophy Wife.

Interesting. The building is in renovation, so the creep factor is high. Once you overcome the…read morehorror of the building and walk into the well equipped (but small) studio, you are fine. It's a franchise and each location has its quirks. If you have never done reformer pilates - TAKE YOUR TIME. It can be intimidating. Once I got myself into the studio, it was an interesting experience from there. Expect everyone to be delicately lean and know what they are doing (to a fault) when it comes to pilates. Other skills... well, we all are different. As a latino, I felt odd. As a 12 year zumba instructor, a lot of the mechanics were second nature to me, albeit the instructor for the day tried a "little too hard. Kudos for keeping safety at the forefront. It's not cheap, so if you are looking for price, this isn't the place for you. Given the drive and off of Route 9 (MY NEMESIS), I have some considerations. But I'd like to at least try the 4 pack one on one training sessions to get into the groove and see if this is something I can commit to longer term. As with any other program - work your way into it, unless you are one of the young superfreaks of nature (me, 35 years ago!). Pilates can be a gentle and effective way to strengthen, tone and lengthen, improving posture, balance and overall functional fitness activities (aka life in general). I have mixed feelings but I wasn't totally put off (chime in here F45 Wakeforest, NC area...). It's a logistics thing. If you are mainstream, middle income - you'll find yourself a great place to take your fitness to a new challenged.

The other two times the staff were so snobby and didn't even acknowledge my existence. Personally I get really put off when a sales person doesn't even bother asking you if they can help you find something. I am a little on the heavy side but I'm active.
