Love coming to Latona. Their food is good; however, their service is not always good. Sometimes you'll go in and get service immediately and sometimes you'll go in and get no service until 20 mins after sitting down. This is during busy and down times. Why should you wait 20 mins for a menu and another 15 for drink order at 4pm when there's only 3 other tables. The staff isn't even busy, just doing nothing. read more

This IS NOT a hipster bar for me. This is more like the "nice and cozy pub to hangout with your friends". Totally casual and chilled. Bunch of small tables, which are great for getting comfy and catching up with your friends. Nice little outside seating area. They got a TV - for your game! Many people complained about the staff. They were friendly to me. - Gluttony Expedition - FYI: $.25 to taste a beer. It was only a few sips. I'm just saying.. They also have wine (red, white, port etc.) and desserts. Check out the board! Ale- Liance IPA : It got a bitterness but no body - watery. Meh. 25 th anniv Latona IPA : Nice bitterness. Medium body. Smooth. Good. Better than Ale-Liance IPA ! Sierra southern harvest : Smooth bitterness with a good body and floral nose. Good! Portobello sandwich: Mushrooms were like a steak - meaty, juicy and flavorful. Goat cheese was a great accent. Bomb dot com food! Awesome rotating beers! Cool live music! Latona Pub is our favorite neighborhood bar in Greenlake! The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of the neighborhood next to a few other businesses, so there is plenty of free street parking. Yay! The restaurant is well lit with tall windows, so there is not a bad seat in the house. Hello Sunshine! It is a smaller space with a bar and only about 10-12 booth and small tables. I wouldn't come with more than a group of 2-4, so get ready to get intimate. We have visited for weeknight dinner on multiple occasions, and never have to wait more then 5-10 minutes. Love love love the entire menu! Generous portions. Talk about quality yum! Sonoma County Duck Confit - amazing!! Leg of duck confit on top of a fresh mixed green salad with roasted beets, pecans, Humbolt Fog chèvre and cranberry fig dressing. If you enjoy duck as much as we do, then get this dish. Steak and Mushroom Salad - they do their steak salad well! Painted Hills sirloin with sautéed mushroom, served with a refreshing baby spinach salad with pears, caramelized shallots, and Gorgonzola. Latona Burger - Painted Hills beef, lettuce, tomato, onion and chipotle mayo. Perfectly moist and well cooked to perfection, served on the heavenly Columbia City Bakery bread. Side of refreshing greens and balsamic vinaigrette. Grilled Cheese and Tomato Basil Soup - they can even make something so simple so awesome. Toasted walnut bread with sharp white cheddar and tomato. The tomato basil soup is sweet and tart, with a delicious consistency. I have also ordered the soup and salad combo with Columbia City baguette. Painted Hills meatloaf - one of my favorite menu items, their meatloaf is an ultimate comfort food and does not disappoint! Bacon wrapped meatloaf, caramelized onions, red wine gravy, chunky Yukon gold mash potatoes and mixed greens. Did someone say bacon? Chicken Pot Pie - delicious chicken with carrots, peas, celery cooked in rich creamy white sauce. The flaky pie crust tops it off with amazing and satisfying crisp. Great dish to warm you up on a cold day. Def one of my favorite bar food choices, and they do it great here. Macaroni and Cheese - the classic favorite! Penne noodles, white cheddar beer sauce, fresh herbs, Parmesan, all baked into an ooey warm melted goodness. A side of refreshing salad and baguette. Their rotating beer menu does not disappoint. Refreshing and goes perfect with their great food. Service is friendly and prompt. They will make sure you are taken care of here. I love the live music available some evenings. The last time we visited, the visiting performers even handed out raffle tickets to all guests, and gave away prizes every 15-30 minutes. A craft beer lover's home away from home since way back in the day. This place has been serving craft beer since there were only a couple dozen microbreweries in the whole country. Back then, four of those couple dozen micros were right here in Washington: Hale's, Redhook, Pyramid, and Grant's (R.I.P., Herbert). Along with the original Red Door and Cooper's, the Latona poured their kegs and slowly turned drinkers of fizzy yellow industrial alco-pop into people who enjoyed the real thing, brewed locally from fresh ingredients intended for brewing. Today, guess what the Latona does? Pours craft from all over, still. They have a little kitchen next to the bar, little tables next to each other, and little stacks of empty kegs next to the bathrooms. Not much has changed. Maybe nothing. Except for the fact that there are bartenders in this town who weren't born when the Latona opened its doors. And there are now over 2,000 craft breweries in the U.S. That's an increase of over 10,000%. The Latona seems intent on offering a faucet to as many of them as possible. They had locals, west coast beers, nationals, and imports pouring last night. What they didn't have was the clam and mussel appetizer, which is a bummer, because it's always a great dish. But it got me down to Plan B, which was the cheese plate, which turned out to be pretty spectacular--nuts, honey, apple slices, fruit relish, three cheeses, and the softest, freshest bread you can imagine. Very filling, very flavorful, reasonably priced. The place is spotlessly clean, and full of the character that only comes from sticking with a neighborhood and a philosophy for more than a generation. The staff is friendly and cool; they know how to make everybody feel welcome and put smiles on faces. There's a piano in the corner, and a well-thumbed copy of today's New York Times at the end of the bar if you're lucky. It's a proper place to bend an elbow. I'm so grateful it's here. read more

One of the reasons I chose to go to Latona's was because of indirect comments from other reviewer. I was originally looking at reviews for Mona's Bistro in which reviewers kept saying they gave Mona's a shot because Latona's was already packed. We arrived around 6pm on a Thursday in the hopes of getting a table. We scored the last 2-top just before the bar seemed to double its' occupancy. While the bar is small the high ceiling and large windows help the space feel less cramped. The atmosphere was lively and friendly. Most of the customers looked like neighborhood locals. I don't know the ethnic bent of the bar but it sure seemed like there were a lot of Irish in the house. Early St. Patty's revelry? Food/Drink: Cheese plate special - Generous portions of three different cheeses served with apple slices, blanched toasted almonds, truffle honey and a pear chutney. Individually and combined, everything was delicious. Two of the three cheeses were pretty crumbly so it made it difficult to slice, spread or in some other way combine with the apples, bread, honey or chutney. I finally just started doing things like dipping the bread in the honey, taking a bit and then biting off a piece of cheese to enjoy the flavor combination's. Portobello Sandwich - OMG. I took a couple of bites when the sandwich first arrived and thought, okay this is pretty tasty. As I sat a while, talked, swigged on a delicious pint of Shakespeare Stout and munched on the cheese plate the sandwich magically got better and better (and no I don't think it was due to the Stout). I have this idea in my head that it is something about the mushroom having time to rest, like a steak, and the juices getting reabsorbed. One way or another by half way into the sandwich I was making noises of enjoyment out loud, savoring every last bite. I was already getting full, but man could I really let it go uneaten? Southwest Veggie Burger - My partner had the burger and was pretty pleased. Because of another reviewers complaints I later asked him about the texture of the patty and if it held together. Like this reviewer said, it sort of fell apart though he said he has pretty much come to expect that from any well made, good tasting veggie burger in a restaurant. I totally agree. While I would love for them to hold together a bit better I also think about how much crap is put into the ones we buy in the frozen food aisle and how much less flavorful they are. I can deal with a tasty veggie burger that is barely head together by the bun and a satisfied grip instead of a hockey puck made of sawdust. I chatted with a table next to us who highly recommended the Barbeque Beef Brisket and the Burgundy Beef Pot Pie. Service: The service was quick and friendly. Sadly I have always come here for one of their menu items that is no longer on the menu. The one person working there is as rude as they come. The person I was with told me later that they almost jumped over the counter at the guy because he was being such an ass. On top of that, there is automatic tipping. I just moved to greenlake and latona pub is super close by my place. I've stopped in a few times over the last couple months for a couple beers and I have to say their service really rubs me the wrong way. A couple of the bartenders are cool, but there's a few that are just plain rude. Last time i went there, I wasnt keen on spending $7/pint for a beer, so i drank a cheap canned pilsner. The bartender makes her way over after I'd finished the first beer and says "can i get you another ... canned ... beer?" In this super smug, condescending tone. After some sketchy service before, that was really the cherry on top. I hear their food is good, but i couldn't tell you and probably won't be going back with any frequency. There are much better bars within a mile of here; I'd suggest you try those out. read more

Cool little pub with gigantic windows; perfect for a sunny day. Latona pub is a bit of a walking distance from Green Lake but definitely doable. I ordered the burger with provolone and bacon (both are extra) and it comes with a salad. The burger was juicy and comes with a chipotle aoli. The bun is from Columbia city bakery. It was very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It held the burger inside very nicely and did not get soggy at all. The salad was dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. The vinaigrette got to be a little too much towards the bottom but it had good flavors. I would definitely come back to Latona if I was in the area again. read more

Oh god. I pretended to coyly look under the table for where the rest of my meatloaf went because I ordered it, an enormous portion came to my table... Then it disappeared! Like magic! It reappeared in my belly, I believe. I didn't even know that I liked meatloaf so much but wow. It was so hard to put my fork down. And their beer menu is so great. One thing led to another and I had eaten and drank everything I ordered in no time. My friend's soup & sandwich combo was also fantastic. I fortunately had enough self control not to let that (grilled cheese & tomato soup.. But even better than the standard stuff) disappear into my stomach as well but I'm definitely ordering that next time! For a pub, their pub food isn't just deliciously familiar-it's freaking amazing. This place is getting 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars for the excellent food. The nightly ravioli special was very special. Eggplant and Goat Cheese ravioli with a 'sauce' of asparagus, spinach, parmesan, roasted red peppers, tomatoes.... so yummy. The salad was simple but excellent and the bread that came with the salad was great for dipping in the ravioli sauce. Everything was very fresh and had excellent and distinct flavors. I will definitely return for future dinners. The place was crowded but the high ceilings made it quiet enough to carry on a conversation. The service was very good and friendly but not overbearing. Some downsides... We ate at the bar which was definitely awkward. The edge of the bar made the plates a good foot away from me or more. I had to eat very carefully. Also... waiting for a table would have been at least 20 to 30 minutes on a Thursday night around 6:15 pm.... I don't know if they accept reservations.... Also, we parked down the street, about a block away. I don't mind this, but some people might. The tables seem cramped together... so it may not be the best place for an intimate dinner. It is a pub afterall. The quality of the food exceeded my expectations and is allowing me to overlook some other negatives in order to 'round up' to a 5. I will update this review in the future and hopefully other dishes will live up to the initial 5 star rating. read more

This is currently my favorite pub in Seattle. The beer selection is medium-sized but always incredibly good and carefully chosen. it's weighted toward IPAs and they often have half to a third of their 12 taps pouring IPAs, but they also keep a good selection of seasonals and at least one good porter or stout on tap. They also occasionally have rare and super-tasty things like one-off sour beers from New Belgium brewing. The beer selection alone would be enough to make me like this place, but they don't stop there. The food here is some of the best in Seattle. i think they legitimately make the best burger in Seattle. Get it with bacon and it will come with what must be 1/3 of a pound of the best bacon you've had piled on top of a juicy wonderful burger on a delicious artisan bun. It's just heaven. It comes with a wonderful mixed greens salad too which is delicious, though it certainly won't be making up for the grease in the burger any time soon. The rest of their menu is just as good. The Mac'n'Cheese is made with Gruyere cheese and comes with bacon and/or mushrooms in it along with slices of more great bread to sop up any cheese you have left over. The meatloaf is a giant slab of delicious meat with sides a trimmings that remind you much more of thanksgiving than pub grub. Combine this with a homey and friendly atmosphere and you have nearly the perfect pub. Given everything, you can expect this place to be busy after 6p most nights and you will probably have to wait 10-25 minutes to be seated, maybe longer on Friday and Saturday nights. That's not so bad given that you can wait while drinking a pint of really good beer. Most of the tables are set up for two people, so it's a good date spot as long as you can deal with a little noise and a lot of noise some nights. There's a big table upstairs on a balcony in the back, which is good for groups if you can get it. I wind up here pretty much every other week and it is hard to overstate how much I keep loving it. read more

This place is synonymous with best grilled cheese and tomato bisque, two things I don't even like or order elsewhere. I'm so sad this was my first experience. I used to live off Latona, 4 blocks away and never gave it a second glance. I read about Latona Pub & Grill in an old SeattleMet magazine - Comfort Food edition, and was drawn to their article mostly because of a picture of the infamous grilled cheese sandwich they raved about, and boy were they right!!!! The next day after reading this article, my two girlfriends and i attempted to walk Greenlake on a dreary day - but grilled cheese and soup sounded way more inviting, so i suggested this place. Firstly, their bloody mary's are excellent! I didn't want mine too spicy, and the waitress listened, and delivered!! :) Secondly, oh-em-geeeeee. If you haven't tried the grilled cheese and soup combo yet.. throw out your lunch, hop in your car and go. there now. For less than 10$ you get a small bowl of creamy tomato bisque soup, a heap of lightly dressed salad & a massive sandwich on this yummy thick/crunchy, nutty bread oozing with warm sharp cheeses. It looked intimidating but i literally ate every last bite. This place is well known for their yummy beers, so i will definitely be back for another amazing lunch and brewskie... my mouth is watering already. read more

Here's a story about service my girlfriend and I received this afternoon. We went in to order food and a beer. Everything was completely normal until the waiter walked over and asked if we knew what we wanted. My girlfriend ordered one item from the specials board, and the waiter said that the specials on the board were not available. None of this is that noteworthy, except that I didn't hear him say that all of the specials on the board were gone. I thought he had told my girlfriend that the one item on the board was gone, not all of them. So, God forgive me, I ordered another item on the specials menu. The waiter looked at me and said, "Like I said, none of the specials are available." I apologized, but before I could finish ordering something different, he cut me off and said he'd be back with our drinks in a minute. 10 minutes went by as he floated around us helping other people, and I was a little grossed out by the previous interaction, so we decided to leave before our drinks came. I would have told the guy to cancel the order if he had paid any attention to us in that time span. We left the bar, walked down the street to another restaurant. Dude FOLLOWS US down the street, barges in the restaurant that we are already being seated at, and shouts "So, I guess you want me to cancel the beers?" And storms out before I can reply. I have literally never had worse service than I did tonight at the Latona pub. I went in and was seated at the bar and the bartender asked if I needed anything. I asked to see a menu. After giving me the menu the bartender went and made drinks and chatted with some dudes for 20 minutes while me and two others near me were completely ignored. Average to subpar service. We arrived when it was nearly empty to celebrate my first day at a new job, and sat at the bar. The bartender could barely pull herself away from conversations with locals long enough to give us menus and take our order. The food was the same - average to subpar. I ordered the southwest salad specifically because it was all romaine with lots of yummy toppings. There was almost all mixed greens (which I personally am not a fan of) the toppings were sparse and dressing was a little disappointing. Food, beer, and live music here are great, but service (or server) is questionable. We ordered drinks and water with our dinner entrees, and sat back to enjoy the music. I immediately felt the board running across the back of the booth poke into my shoulder blades. Ok, I guess they want to turn over the table, and keep people from getting too comfortable. After finishing my sour peach beer, I drank my water. The waiter came by to see if I wanted another beer, but as I was to be driving later, I asked for a water refill. He told me to get it myself from the station nearby (!). Another server overheard, and brought water before I was able to get up myself. My entree, the pulled pork tacos, tasted great, as did the mushroom ravioli my companion let me sample. In search of a salad, a sandwich, and a little something new, we headed over to Greenlake last night to try check out Latona Pub. We'd heard good things about this place and when we pulled up, I found myself saying, "Riiiight.. This place. So this is Latona Pub.." I've driven by here a million times and while I've always seen it busier than a bumble bee in spring, I've never paid much attention to what it was. And now I know. We seated ourselves immediately. It's a big space and usually quite busy, so a table might just be tough to come by at dinner time. We enjoyed the two Oktoberfest beers (the Baron and the Alpine) on their rotating tap, both of which were very good. My spinach salad was absolutely fantastic with candied walnuts, bleu cheese, with a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. A big 'thank you' goes out to Columbia City bakery for supplying them with their bread! The veggie burger boasted a big ol' house made black bean patty that while good, lacked a bit in the seasoning department. It was nothing a little Tapatio couldn't fix. NOTE: All sandwiches/ burgers come with a side salad. You'll have to get your fries elsewhere. Our waitress was attentive and very sweet and the food came out within about 15 minutes of ordering. We'll definitely be back. I've gotta see if they'll sell me those candied walnuts in bulk. I'd eat 'em like cereal if it were permissible.. Yes, they were that good. read more

Food and beer win. Big win. The only real disappointment for me was the comfort of the seating, but frankly that would never be a reason for me to justify not going to a place with such an awesome assortment of food and drinks. The beer list was awesome and I was really happy to see (and consume) Mama's Lil Yellow Pils from a keg as opposed to the can we're all used to experiencing. I had another IPA which I can't recall the name of but it was great as well. The menu itself is daunting, which I'm starting to get used to with Seattle bars/pubs. In Tacoma, I had grown fairly used to order pizza/nachos/wings etc off of a bar menu, and now suddenly I have been thrust into a world where I can have delicous sandwiches, anti pasto plates, pastas and other ridiculousness while enjoying my beers or skinny bishes(vodka diets - yeah, i know). Anyways, the cheese tortellini was a daily special and it was fantastic, indulgent, and massive. Perfectly cooked too, not a chewy bite in the mix, and the garlic cream sauce was good. In the end, it was straight up too much food, but that is by no means a complaint. I left stuffed and made it a whole hour before I was ready to eat again, which is big if you know me. With it's great location right - which happens to be a short walk from my friends' place, I foresee this becoming a regular stop for me. The meatloaf and chicken Quessadilla are really good!!!! The Mac n' cheese is NOT tasty. Not your usual thick cheese, but a runny white Alfredo that doesn't stick to the penne pasta. Just skip it. Cozy pub nestled into the Greenlake area. Handful of barstools, a few two tops, and a couple booths. The server was chilled out, sat us with menus and pointed out the do-it-yourself water. I went there specifically for the Oregon burger, which was great. Generous portion and served fresh from the kitchen, no bs with warming plates. Cheese was sizzling and bacon was piping hot. Standard addition of sliced red onion, lettuce leaf, and fresh tomato. Plus a side salad tossed in a vinaigrette. Bun was soft and chewy, though held up well with the big patty. Not as good as Red Mill, but a lovely spot to sip a cold one and spend the evening with fellow burger lovers. read more

The Good: I love their beer and wine selection. Very dynamic and approachable. The food is really good - salads, great shrimp tacos, pastas, etc. The Bad: Usually pretty crowded and the staff is pretty lackadaisical, which isn't unusual for a neighborhood pub, if you ask me. Even though I live down the street from the Latona Pub, I had never been before last night. Something about there only being like 10 tables intimidates me - I hate walking in feeling like I'm intruding on a dinner party. My husband finally convinced me to go last night. There wasn't a place to sit, but the staff was very friendly - they immediately came by, tried to figure out a seating arrangement for us, and when we decided to wait for a bigger table, they took our drink order so we'd have a beverage while we waited. I immediately felt very welcome. We sit down and the first thing I notice is that menu is small, and everything comes with a salad instead of fries. Salad with beer, really? I was skeptical. Then I ordered the chicken sandwich and washed it down with a stout and oh mama, I was in heaven. This chicken sandwich has pesto mayo, provolone, and carmelized Walla Walla sweet onions, which I normally wouldn't bother with, but man did they ever make the difference with this sandwich. The food is a little more than I'd like to spend in a pub, but since it tastes a lot better than what I normally get in a pub, it's worth it. Pair that with an interesting and varied beer selection, friendly staff and casual, relaxed environment, and you've got a pretty awesome neighborhood pub. We'll definitely be going back. read more
