Dance With Me Austin

Dance With Me Austin caught our attention because they offer dance lessons for wheelchair users…read more They're located inside The Domain, and when we arrived, the first thing I noticed was the wall of glass windows. You can see everything from the outside, and I'll be honest, I felt a little awkward knowing people could watch us. Once inside, I noticed several couples dancing with different instructors and had a moment of nervousness, wondering if there would be enough space for us. Then we met our instructor, Johnny, and all of that disappeared. He is an absolute delight. From the start, he made us feel comfortable, relaxed, and completely at ease. I quickly forgot about the windows and the other dancers. We had plenty of room, and that's entirely thanks to how Johnny guided the lesson. Even though we were doing a shorter intro session, he managed to teach us all the basics to the song we chose. Somehow, it felt incredibly intimate and personal, even in such a large, open space. We had so much fun that we've decided to continue our lessons. Highly recommend, especially if you're looking for an inclusive, welcoming place with truly wonderful instructors.

The instructors are beyond talented, but what makes them so special is their kindness, patience, and the way they believe in you even when you doubt yourself. They meet you where you are, and then somehow bring out the very best in you every single time. Over the course of my journey here, I've not only learned how to dance with more skill and grace, but I've also found a community filled with joy, encouragement, and laughter. Every lesson feels like a celebration, and I always leave lighter and happier than when I came in. Dance With Me isn't just a studio it's a place where confidence, artistry, and friendships grow. I'm forever grateful for the love, passion, and family I've found here

Also, a huge shoutout to Maria, who works so hard to keep the studio clean and welcoming and always greets students with a smile. The positive energy at this studio is something really special.

When…read moreI walked up to the front desk in the main studio, the receptionist was looking down at her computer and didn't greet me. I stood there for a moment trying not to interrupt, but when she finally looked up she seemed visibly annoyed, almost like a "what do you want?" expression. I let her know I was there for the Silks class and she told me to go to the building across the parking lot. The interaction felt pretty short and awkward. Aerial Silks is already intimidating if you have no experience, so having this type of first impression really made me question if I even wanted to patron the establishment. That said, the class itself completely turned the experience around. Ashley, our instructor, was fantastic. She was super patient, encouraging, and kind. Aerial silks can be intimidating if you're new, but she made the class fun and approachable. I ended up having a great time and almost forgot about the front desk interaction by the end of it. If the front desk experience had matched the quality of the class, this would easily be a 5-star review. I would definitely come back for Ashley's class, especially now that I know I can go straight to the other building.

I'm a musician - professional clarinetist - and the rhythmic idea of tap has always appealed to me…read more I was highly active in marching band in high school and have been a marching band music judge for over 17 years including last year's national championship. I started taking tap on a whim about a year ago, and work forced me to switch studios to the weekends, and ended up on Acia's doorstep...a tall, gangly, goofy older guy seriously having trouble balancing on one foot! I studied clarinet at one of the top music schools in the world - Eastman - and was a student of one of the clarinet world legends. Attending Acia's class, I immediately felt in the presence of a legend - greatness, and here I was in a beginning tap class taught by a master: I immediately was compelled to want to address her as "Maestra" as I did when I performed under Leonard Bernstein or Seiji Ozawa. But what struck me the most was that it wasn't just dance: she approaches tap as a "musical instrument" which completely resonates with me, even though I struggle. She talks musician language: pickups, triplets, 16ths, syncopation, and more than that: everything that she demonstrates or has us do is a form of musical notation - I could automatically mentally transcribe everything of hers into sheet music and it ALL makes metric sense. Watching Acia's performance videos also resonate with me as an artist. She is very lyrical and expressive, and I am soooo grateful for the privilege of being in her classes. I hope someday my body starts to catch up with my musical mind! When I was an Eastman student, my clarinet mentor Stanley Hasty used to make us drag our sorry you-know-whats out of bed and attend his reed class on Saturday mornings at 9am. The irony isn't lost on me. Now I attend Acia's tap class on Saturday mornings at 9am, and I am ALWAYS so glad that I went, even though I am covered with sweat by the end - it is a "vigorous" class! Thank you, Acia Gray, for sharing what you do with all of us, and for teaching me a new musical instrument!

The room itself is simple but does the job for classes or practice. What I don't love is that there isn't really a consistent front desk presence. If you don't show up exactly on time, you run the risk of being locked out, which has happened to me before. It's a useful space, but just know it's best to plan ahead and arrive early.

We recently started at Dance Discovery with high hopes, but unfortunately, our experience so far…read morehas been quite disappointing. My daughter (age 3) has attended four different classes with different instructors as we tried to find the right fit for her. As a shy new student, I expected at least a minimal effort from the teachers to help her feel welcomed and included--but that has largely been missing. In most of the classes, there was little to no effort to engage her, encourage her participation, or help her feel part of the group. Even in the few classes that had student assistants present, they did not step in to support her or offer any guidance. In one instance, my daughter needed tap shoes (which are available in a shared bin for those without), and rather than assisting us, the student assistant pointed me toward the bin to figure it out myself--something that could have easily been handled more supportively, especially for a brand-new child. Another serious concern is bathroom access. My daughter is still potty training, and after a 45-minute drive to get to class, we often urgently need to use the restroom upon arrival. To access the bathrooms, however, you must walk through two active classrooms, which feels disruptive and uncomfortable. On one occasion, it took us over 10 minutes just to get into a stall, which meant missing a significant portion of class while awkwardly waiting in a hallway right next to an ongoing session. Overall, I'm very surprised by the lack of accommodations or support for young children and new families. It's disappointing because I had high hopes for this studio, but at this point, I'm not confident that it's the right environment for us and we have already put in our 30 days.

I was really impressed by the facilities and layout of the place-- much larger on the inside than it looked on the outside. There was the large dance area with mirrored wall, plenty of folding chairs we could use, a large lobby with places to sit and wait for the previous class to finish up, even a quiet booth on the far side, and a little nook with a fridge and microwave. The fun-colored neon lighting was a nice visual touch, coupled with the ability to play music on the sound system really set the mood! The owner was very helpful about making us feel welcome, getting us set up, and letting us know where everything was and how to use the facilities. The only two things that could have been better were the cramped parking lot with limited spaces, and the single occupant bathroom. It was a really nice bathroom, but there was only the one so it caused a wait to use it. Would definitely rent this space again!!

I'm not offered to take the class. The girl at the desk says check your email. I check my email, and it says you have to link your account. So why does the website have you select a class, lead you to believe you're paying for it, and show you enrolled? Maddening. I was always so interested in taking a class but always thought the website was absurd. I now have to make sure money isn't taken out of my account, and I don't show as a no- show for a class I wasn't welcomed to join. I was so looking forward to a great dance experience. What a disappointment.
