The instructor was great she broke down the choreography and tried to think of anything she could to help us remember the moves. AN IN-DEPTH HONEST REVIEW TLDR (Quick overview if you hate reading) - Do not go here if you need something serious. - Management is unprofessional and manipulative. - Staff are young and energetic. - Price is lower then The Domain. - Location is good for Austin (15min drive north from Downtown). - Facility is nice but not superb. -------------------- The Beginning I surprised my fiancé and mother with dance lessons for our upcoming wedding New Years Eve 2020. I expressed to Nikkie that I needed 2 choreographies and a package of 6 dance lessons to try out Dance Austin Studio. We agreed to 6 lessons and she informed me that I would need about 12 lessons to learn both choreographies. I understood, we agreed and I paid for 6 lessons. First 4 lessons went great, Ivana the instructor was awesome, but to this day, that was the last real lesson. Management is Unprofessional and Manipulative. Right before the 5th lesson we were told that our final lesson would be without choreography, unless we booked 6 more lessons? I expressed that I had paid for 6 private lessons and that adding limits to lessons already paid for was Unprofessional and against our original agreement. She apologized for the "miscommunication" but pressed us to purchase 6 more lessons. That week I discussed it with my family and we agreed to purchase 6 more lessons despite the Manipulation of our original agreement. Over the next few days we where told 1. We would not be able to moving forward with either of the choreography's 2. We would be allowed a touch up lesson for our final lesson even though we had not finished the choreography. 3. I voiced that I was interested in discussing a possible solution if management was. 4. And that day they issued a refund and left us with 2 incomplete choreography's. Staff Ivana (The Instructor) - Although she was young, she was very knowledgeable, energetic and honestly was a great instructor. She wore a mask 24/7 (Covid) and was always on time. Price Spent $500 for 6 private lessons. $1000 for 12 private lessons. For comparison, there is a place in the domain that charges $100+ per private lesson. Location The location is great. - 5 min drive from The Domain - 15 min drive north from Downtown. Facility They have 2 dance rooms, one small and one medium. We spent most of our time in the small but the rooms do a poor job at blocking sound. Conclusion I have an issue with how management has handled this entire process, not with the instructor or other staff members. Lastly my original offer to try and work something out is still on the table. They have my number and if they ever reach out I will update this review. read more

Maybe it's too early to write a review, as I only went to my very first class this morning... BUT GOD I LOVED IT! I attended a Sweat class with Korie this morning and had a blast. It had been my first dance class of any kind in over 6 years, so naturally I was hesitant to put myself out there. Yet, Korie broke done the choreography and guided us through transitions during each combination making it easy for me to follow along. The class was cardio/fitness based and I worked up a good sweat while laughing and dancing the whole time. Class was over before I knew it because I was enjoying it so much. I am having a real internal struggle with writing this review because while I want the world to know just how amazing this place is, I want to keep it a secret so only I can enjoy the pure awesomeness that is Dance Austin Studio. I grew up a dancer and stopped when I got into college. I have wanted to get back into dancing and as all adults, was really intimidated with the fact that, well, I have to dance. I am certainly not in the same shape as I was in when I danced regularly soooooo, moving my body was not something I thought would be attractive. Fast forward to my first Video Vixen class and SOLD! Chi Chi is a phenomenal instructor who doesn't make you feel belittled or awkward. The entire class is about feeling sexy in your skin and just letting loose! Kory is awesome as well along with EddyJay and well... EVERYONE! Do yourself a favor and try out the class. You can even sign up to do a dance performance they have twice a year. I did it and while I was nervous as all get out, it was so so so so so much fun! I look forward to Mondays now. read more

There is no question why this place has an average of 5 stars!!!! By far the best dance studio in Austin. I'm incredibly happy that I found it. I haven't really loved most of the studios I've tried in the past few years. Plus, if you find a studio geared towards adults, it's usually more fitness based than dance based. Dance Austin has both fitness classes (Zumba, lengthen/limber) and dance classes (hip hop, lyrical, belly dancing, ballet, sexy stiletto, etc.). I was really glad to find that the hip hop class was actually a dance class focused on choreography rather than simply doing jumping jacks and lunges to HIP HOP MUSIC. (Speaking of the music, it's aweeeeeesome here). The atmosphere is also great. Lots of smiling and laughter. Comfy couches in the lobby. Cubbies to store your things. Bathrooms to change in if you come after work. The scheduling is very convenient. You can sign up online until 2 hours before the class begins. No need to commit to one specific class at a certain time every week. Since my schedule is always changing, I think this is a huge plus. As a "penny-pincher", I also appreciate the class passes that they offer. The more classes you buy in advance, the more of a discount you receive. The only catch is you have to use pre-paid classes within 60 days. I doubt this will be a problem... my wallet might get mad at me, but my body won't! read more

I am SO happy I found this place! Dance Austin Studio has great instructors and classes, and I'm getting such good workouts - finally! You see, I'm an acupuncturist, so taking care of my health is very important to me. But after years of school and lots of debt, I found exercise falling out of my life. Really the thought of running or going to a gym makes me cringe. But dancing has always been a joy for me, and now that I've found Dance Austin Studio, I'm never going back to being out of shape again. I bought a monthly pass, which is definitely worth it if you want any kind of exercise routine. Just this week I'm going to 4 or 5 classes. It's not pure dance classes - a lot of them are a dance/exercise fusion, which is great for staying in shape. Also Chi Chi (the manager I believe) was really kind and accommodating when I had a special request. Everyone there has been very welcoming. I've been to a few classes here over the last week or so and am so happy with my experience that I went ahead and bought a 10-class card last night. I hate putting in my cardio hours, but I am actually looking forward to going to the Zumba class tonight and I really can't wait for hip-hop tomorrow! I think that the charm is partly due to the friendly and open teachers and the fun and energetic attendees. The other charming aspect is the prospect of a flatter stomach and a perkier derrière. Once you arrive, ou walk in and you are greeted by an awesome staff and are shown into a wonderful studio space. Clean, brand spanking new floors, mirrors, great sound system. This great space really sets the tone for a great class. I took the Hip Hop Yoga and it rocked my face off. Sarah was an amazing teacher and I am not a yogi by any means but the cool vibe of the music made me feel like I could do anything. She is fun, patient and leads the class through a really amazing 55 minute yoga class to a playlist of great jams. I had such a great experience, I can't wait to check out other classes on the schedule and you can bet I will be bringing my friends to Sarah's Hip Hop Yoga every Monday night. Come on out. Love this place. Love. The instructors are fun, talented, and come up with choreography that makes it easy to get a fantastic work out in. I've been a dancer since I was 4, but you definitely don't have to be a dancer to enjoy these classes. They're challenging, but in a good way. Everyone's attitude is fantastic from the receptionist to the students to the actual choreographers. This place is definitely all about having fun and getting fit :). I'm sure all the instructors are incredible, but I've only had experiences with Eddejay (intermediate hiphop) and Chichi (Video Vixen), both of which are great. Intermediate hip hop is just that. Not for the pros, but not for the beginners. Eddejay picks fun songs that you probably know/have heard so you can feel the music. Video vixen is definitely a sassy hiphop class mainly for girls, but I've seen a couple of guys there. You're definitely shaking your booty in this class :D. read more

Overall, my experience was pretty good. I went on a Saturday for an adult beginner hip hop class. I've been meaning to exercise more and it helps when there is a set schedule and other people to work out with! We started with a light warm up routine which involved some light cardio and crunches. Then we learned a basic 1 minute choreograph to a song. It was pretty interactive the teacher was very high energy and fun. One thing I didn't like about the instructor though, was he didn't know how to count to beats. It got a bit confusing, when he just hummed along to the song and would forget how the song went... But other than that, the beginning hip hop class is definitely a good start to my exercise routine! They have a $5 off your first class if you check in on yelp, and if you are a student you get $10 off their 10 class package! read more

My daughter comes home red faced with wet hair every class. It doesn't even seem like work to her. They dance and dance and dance at this place. I've never taken a dance class or even imagined I would one day walk into one on my own accord. The Hip Hop class for beginners is so right up my alley. 55 minute class for $17. How can anyone beat that? By the end of the class, you've gotten a full dance routine and the awesome thing about it is, you don't even realize how much exercise you're getting. You do not need to be someone who comes from a dance background or even are a social butterfly. The great thing about the Hip Hop class is that it allows you to add your own personality and twist onto the moves the instructor teaches you. People aren't judgmental at all. I was not a fan of the class, I didn't feel welcomed and it was suppose to be a beginner class and the class had been working on a routine for three weeks. It wasn't even fun because I cant just watch something once and have it down . Waste of 17 dollars. I will say the instructor was lively and could dance but that's the only two positives I can give. I have tried a few other dance studios, but Dance Austin Studio is the best around. They have such a great variety of classes, for all skill levels. I've been to hip hop yoga, Zumba, and beginner hip hop. All are great classes, but my favorite is the beginner hip hop. It is so challenging and really works up a sweat, but I keep going back for more. Class size range from small to medium, and there is always room for more. The cost is affordable, too, at $15 a class. Or, you can buy a 10-class card for $100, which is a great savings. They also have a monthly unlimited pass for $120 for the diehards. read more

Y'all. This place is so much fun. You get a fantastic workout and the instructors are friendly and caring. I LOOK FORWARD to exercising because of these upbeat and informal classes. They have classes for all skill levels (including no skill, like myself!). As someone who lacks any reasonable coordination or rhythm, I can speak to that from experience! I onlllyyy wish the classes were a teensy bit less expensive, because $15 a class, a few days a week really adds up. This place is just okay. I've been disappointed with my experiences here. They promote the studio as a place to just "drop-in," but it's happened many times that I went to a single class and they had already learned a whole dance. Therefore I spent the whole time at my "beginner" class struggling to catch up. I forgave it the first time. Then it happened again and again. I also took a Tap series, which was better. I wish they offered Advanced Tap classes, but Dance Austin seems to be more hip hop and fitness based. Aside from Tap, the class I've returned to again and again is Limber and Lengthen, an hour stretch class. You get the benefits of yoga without as much of the structure, and a little more casual. If I go back to Dance Austin, it'd be for this class. read more

I can't speak for the other teachers here or the group classes, but we had 2 private lessons with Jess/j Jessica. She was terrific! We learned so much in those two lessons and she was very willing to teach us what we wanted to learn rather than follow a one-size-fits-all approach which is what you get with classes and which can be frustrating. In two lessons we really learned a lot- more than we expected and enough to "dance in public". She sometimes runs an ad on Craigslist where you can get an otherwise unpublished, lower price for your first two lessons. We'll be back for more! read more

Dance Austin is so much fun! I came for their day of dance--a whole day of FREE classes! That doesn't happen very much so I was excited to get into a class. Most of the classes are street dancing, which for me meant that there were no expectations except having fun. All the instructors were awesome and really great at making the class fun and explaining each dance to me. On top of all of that, their prices for classes are super reasonable. You can even buy a montthly unlimited that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. I know I am going to buy one (when I get paid next, of course ha ha!) and be there all the time. I really want to get in shape so the dance cardio and fitness classes are cool too. All in all, I was super impressed!!! Absolutely LOVEDDD my first class. Everyone in the whole studio was super friendly and very inviting. I was a little nervous about it but I can't even explain how sweet everyone was. We ended up in Jennells hip hop remix class and it was SO much fun. My friend and I were completely terrible but no one judged us at all and we just had fun with it. Jennell was the absolute greatest instructor. She got us pumped up, kept us laughing the whole time and really just wanted us to enjoy ourselves. Plus she's an amazing dancer. Girl has moves!! I seriously can't say enough great things about this place. We are super super excited to try more classes!! I highly recommend this studio. Well on my way....I started dance classes at Dance Austin Studio in Jan. and I've been so happy with the results! Between attending dance classes and changing up my eating habits I've lost almost 30 lbs. I started out attending Beg. Hip Hop...I quickly learned that Beg Hip Hop wasn't really my thing, I kind of left out feeling defeated but on my way out the the owner asked me several questions and suggested I try Go-Go Cardio instead...I went back the next day and IT WAS A PERFECT MATCH FOR ME!!! Since then I've also added Abs Express and BAM to my weekly routine....I even tried Zumba & Stiletto fit a few times (I have to work my way up to that one...lol). If you like dancing and you want to lose weight or tone up I'd def. give it a try...the nice part is the classes vary in length. Some classes are 30 min and others are an hour..so even if you don't have a lot of time you can still squeeze in a workout. If you try one class out and it doesn't work don't give up, they offer a range of classes i'm sure you'll find your match as well!!! read more

Saying that this studio has absolutely changed my life in every way is putting it lightly. I LOVE this place!! I always dreamed of being a dancer, but my family didn't have money for dance classes when I was a kid. However, I continued to dream about it until I, in my thirties, was finally able to muster the courage to pursue my life-long fantasy. I randomly stumbled upon DAS through a Google search and decided to give it a try. Best decision of my life! This is an extremely warm and inviting studio that only employs instructors who genuinely care about the students' goals. I had two left feet when I started, but after much effort and dedication, I have seen myself blossom into a person I would actually call a "dancer". That is huge for me! Through this continued experience, I feel like I have gained bounds of confidence, and a mindset of being able to accomplish anything I put my mind to. It's been about 10 years since I last danced so I wanted a studio that would provide me with the comfort to ease back into dance while also giving me new challenges to improve my skills. I also wanted a studio that didn't just give adult tap classes. DAS is more hip-hop and fitness based; right up my alley! But, I still get my weekly fix of good ol' ballet and jazz classes to keep me sharp. I have not yet met all the instructors; the ones I have had the pleasure of meeting are all amazing. Shout out to ChiChi, Dimitrius, Jennell, Kari, Kim, Liora, Lily and Talisa! The staff here is always polite and ready to help. I appreciate the fact that I see them cleaning/sweeping after the dancers have left for the day. The studio also has several performance opportunities available. I will be performing in a recital (the first in many years) and for one class I even got to shoot a music video! There's absolutely no pressure to perform, but the encouraging atmosphere here will nudge you to do more than you thought possible. :) I highly recommend this studio to beginners and advanced dancers alike. read more

It is a wonderful community of girls of all shapes and sizes, dancers and non dancers, energized and ready to have fun while seeing results! I know I've already seen some changes and I can't WAIT to see what happens after the. 6 weeks to sexy and 4 weeks of hoop groove!! In addition to those classes, The go go cardio class can't be missed!! With the atmosphere of the club and the bumping tunes to go with it, it's a blast!!
