The Peruvian ceviche had a large amount of fish and incredible flavors, the corn and roasted corn added a great variety of textures, plus the sweet potato was the perfect additive to balance the spice! We really enjoyed the churrasco's plate accompanied with sweet plantains, sweet potatoe fries, white rice and Charro beans! It was a very hearty portion. We also got the mahi-mahi served with calamari and shrimp with white rice. All of the portions were great. Our service was impeccable, the manager stopped by to make sure we were good.! Peruvian is 100% one of the most under-rated cuisines in the U.S. It has certainly achieved critical acclaim internationally for innovative style, masterful technique, and eye-popping flavor, but has yet to take off as a well-recognized feature of the American food scene. Latin Bites is certainly doing its best to change the narrative. Speaking as someone who visited Peru and fell in love with the food, I found myself transported back to the streets of Cusco as I enjoyed take-out from here. Passion Fruit Rocoto Boneless Wings - The texture here was just passable, though the flavor was excellent. I'm a major sucker for the spicy and sweet combo, and these nuggets hit the mark. Peruvian Ceviche - Peru gifted ceviche to the world, and we are forever grateful. This is a magnificent take on the classic, with thick-cut white fish, toasted corn kernels, sand sweet mature corn grains in a spicy and citrusy sauce. Lomo Saltado - Another classic dish consisting of stir-fried sirloin beef and veggies. The fries and rice were mediocre, but the meat was tender and deliciously smoky. Aji de Gallina - Highly recommend this dish as well; shredded chicken smothered in a thick, nutty, and wholesome sauce that happens to be an aesthetically pleasing neon yellow. Latin Bites Paella - Not especially traditional, but wonderfully soupy and dry at the same time. The dish isn't overwhelmingly seafood-y tasting despite the shrimp, mussels, and mini-octupi spread throughout. Tres Leches - Literally the only misstep of the evening. The cake was too dry, and there was too much cream with an unwelcome hint of coconut. Ignoring the dessert, everything was well-cooked to the appropriate done-ness and the spices shone through appropriately. I will likely continue to rave about Peruvian food to any and everyone that I encounter, and I'm glad that Latin Bites proved to be a worthy statesman of the storied culinary tradition. read more

Wow! The only place wrong here, is that all of Houston is not lined out the door waiting to get in, and savor this authentically prepared Peruvian cuisine. Great for me. They were able to squeeze me in right before my 8pm show. I been to fine dining Peruvian restaurants in Mira Flores Peru and Holy Smokes it felt like I was there again. The Ceviche made fresh with high quality ingredients, and plated so beautifully. Every bite more delicious than the next. This is my 3rd time here visiting from San Antonio and OMG they have been consistently amazing. I have hundreds of options, but I choose Latin Bites every time. My only regret, San Antonio doesn't have a Latin Bites. In my 15 years working in the industry, I'm extremely impressed and it's hard to impress me. Do yourself a favor and get there soon. I'm Peruvian, so I grew up eating Peruvian food, and I go to a Peruvian restaurant in every city I visit, and since Latin Bites is just 3 minutes from where I live I decided to give it a chance (I actually didn't know about it until recently) The ceviche was ok, I'm still convinced it was farmed Tilapia, because it had a dirt taste, but I might be wrong. In my defense, the servers didn't even know either. One of them said it was flounder and the other said it was grouper, so who knows. The tiradito's sauce was a bit buttery and had drops of oil on top, never seen oil on a Tiradito, not for me so I wouldn't recommend it. The anticuchos were above average, the meat was tender, but it had a little too much seasoning on top. The causa was good, but I think it needed a tad bit more salt, other than that it was good. The arroz con pollo was the best so far, I'd go back just for that, but didn't like the actually chicken nor the huancaina sauce by itself, but the huancaina mixed w the rice was great. And the churros were frozen, so not good. Also, the sauces should be warm not straight up cold. Giving it a 3 stars because the food was edible and the service was good! Well, let me start off by telling you that I am married to a wonderful Peruvian gal (great cook) (and beautiful). We were in the area killing time waiting for the traffic to die down and decided to stop in to check out this restaurant (love Peruvian cuisine). Started off with a couple of Pisco Sours (catedral) which I thought was a larger size cocktail, turns out to be in a slightly larger glass and a double shot of Pisco. Was tasty but not worth the price and still about the size of a regular sour that you might get anywhere. The regular Pisco sour is $12.00 and was pretty small. Mostly foam. We next ordered a couple of Anticucho Skewers. My wife liked those and they were tasty also. Next was an order of fried Calamari which was the worst I have ever had. Was like shoe leather! Sent that back! After that we had the Causa, which we would say was not bad. The yellow Peruvian potatos makes this dish. Our main dishes were the Lomo Saltado Surf and Turf which is beef and shrimp and Seco de Carne. The Saltado was just ok. Alot of juice (a little salty) which was totally absorded by the potatos, making them soggy and mushy by the time I was almost finished with the dish. Meat was not real tender. The Seco had nice flavor but they use either canned or frozen carrots and peas. Would have been better with fresh veggies and a we bit of Aji Amarillo (Peruvian yellow chili paste) for a little spice. Same beef as above. The desert was awesome. Freshly made Suspiro de Limena, which is like a custard made from dulce de leche and a whipped egg white meringue on top. That was delicious, and the best part of the meal. Although we did not order the Ceviche (which we love), they use Talapia instead of Sea Bass like every other place that serves this dish. Cheap fish. Our total bill for two was $167.00 for a party of two, quite expensive in our minds and the quality of the food as well as the atmosphere do not command that kind of pricing. Could have hit Morton's steak house for restaurant week and had a much nicer meal for the same money! Next time. Overall opinion is overpriced with mediocre food. Average atmosphere along the lines of a neighborhood cafe. Service was a little slow. The previous location was much nicer. In the end, we would not go back here. read more

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and it was very empty. My friend and I were not sure what to get, so our waiter recommended a pisco sour. If you like margaritas, then you'll definitely like this drink. It's very subtle and more importantly fresh. The green sauce that is brought to our table was also very delicious as well. I missed Peruvian food for months and months until I came here recently! The entrance of Latin Bites is horrible, especially if the traffic around the streets is bad. There is one main entrance to enter the complex with the other at a bad location, where the bottom of my car got scraped due to the steep rise. Parking can be difficult during peak times. Just beware of the signs in the complex, for some of the spaces are designated to certain businesses. Latin Bites has a welcoming atmosphere but some of the decor around the bar throws it off. Modern yet simple. Latin Bites offers a lunch menu for 2 for $20 deal, but I'd recommend checking the main menu out. FOOD: Complimentary chips with avocado dip and salsa. Please make sure to order one or a few of the Pisco Sours! It is the signature drink in Peru - reminded me of my wonderful trip in Cusco. Light and delicious. It's made with egg yolk so beware of food allergies. -Shrimp Ceviche (3/5, Poached shrimp, aji amarilo leche de tigre, diced mango, mint, plantain chips, choclo, cancha, and sweet potato): Gluten free. This ceviche was not acidic - more on the sweet side especially with the diced mango. Shrimp pieces were more on the bigger side than average. There were three pieces of plantain chips placed on top of the seven pieces of shrimp. The corn in here didn't really soak in the base of the ceviche, but the sweet potato did. We weren't sure what the sweet potato was at first because it was mixed with a mango taste. The ceviche was a mixture of tastes and textures, and I would recommend trying one of the ceviches. -Market Ceviche (4/5, White seasonal fish, octopus, crispy calamari, fried yucca, creamy ají rocoto, and leche de tigre): The server recommended this ceviche my recent visit here. This ceviche was more on the acidic side, which I prefer than the sweet one aforementioned. There is a nice mixture of the citrus and spice throughout with different textures in the ceviche dishes here. Fish and octopus were fresh, dispersed at the bottom. There are three fried calamari pieces at the top, which I didn't try. -Seco de Cordero (3/5, Cilantro, corn beer braised lamb shanks, tacu tacu, fried yucca, and salsa criolla): This is part of the Peruvian signatures in the menu. The lamb shank was ginormous, for I could barely finish this and took home for lunch the following day. The lamb shank was great at first but became heavy with some parts of the lamb overcooked. Fried yucca was decent - three pieces. Decent dish overall. I personally wouldn't order this again - just decent but did not win me over. -Golden Papardelle (3/5, Signature lomo saltado on a pappardelle pasta with creamy huancaina sauce): I was slightly disappointed with this dish. I love lomo saltado and decided to do the Italian twist on the menu. The sauce is buttery and creamy. After trying it, I prefer my lomo saltado with rice, the traditional way. Nothing was overcooked though. The beef with red onions and tomatoes... just delicious. Tender beef as well. Service has been great both times I have been here. My first visit to Latin Bites today. The ge that waited on me was wonderful at explaining the dishes on the menu. For my lunch I had the beef empanadas and the honey passion fruit Brussel sprouts. Both were so good. The empanadas were the best I've ever had. They were not dry and the filling was so flavorful. Just the right balance of filling and dough. My wife and I found this place years ago on one of our anniversaries and have loved it since then. The food and staff has always been great until our visit today. We went in on Mother's Day and as expected with most restaurants, they were busier than normal. I tried making reservations the day before and there were no slots available, but decided to give it a shot and wait to be seated. When the manager on duty greeted me, he stated they were completely booked due to reservations through close. Typically there's just a longer wait for walk-in's on busy days, but thought that was just their policy for the day due to Mother's Day. As I went back to speak with my wife, we decided to order takeout, so along I went back inside to order a takeout order. The manager refused the takeout order as well, which was fine since online orders weren't available either. However, on my second trip inside, the manager had a family waiting on a table. I asked them if they had a reservation to which they did not, yet was told they could be seated in 15 min. After my wife found out, she went inside and was greeted differently, and was immediately put on the waitlist not mentioning anything about me. We sat outside and waited for our seat, but the manager was completely shocked to see me when he turned the corner. During our meal, customer after customer who did not have reservations were continuously put on the waitlist. After coming to this place several times over the years, I've never been treated like this and it's unfortunate that this happens in this day and age. I hope the owners and manager sees this and learns not to judge a book by its cover. I don't think I'll ever be back. read more

I've gotten the Paella - Arroz con Mariscos 5 times and I keep coming back. It is the BEST thing I've had. I can honestly say it is one of my favorite go to dishes to treat myself! If you don't know what to get and don't have a shellfish allergy get the paella. I usually don't order seafood dishes, but this is amazing. The depth of flavors is unmatched. There is no fishy taste or smell to worry about it. I usually have leftovers and this reheats nicely. For those that don't know, it's a paella dish with 3 of the following: jumbo shrimp, clams, mussels. There are also pieces of octopus and calamari! I haven't dined in so I can't speak for staff, but I have ordered carry out each time. The staff is attentive and the 10-15 wait they say on the phone is accurate. During Covid, the waiters have even offered I wait in the car after paying, and they have brought the food out to me. read more

I have not had Peruvian food since being in Peru. On our trip to Houston to visit family, my one food requirement was Peruvian. My cousin who is from Peru raves about Latin Bites. The menu has recently undergone a transformation to reflect more South American cuisines other than Peruvian. It was also explained to us that the dishes were smaller with a smaller price too. And the dishes would come out when they were ready versus being all at the same time. The food was outstanding. All told we ordered six appetizers (the short rib we ordered AFTER we ate dessert when the waitress mentioned how good it was), three mains, all the sorbets and a chocolate hazelnut flan. They have a really good menu and the dishes are deli. We ordered ceviche (Peruvian), anticuchos, milanesa with pesto pasta, rotisserie chicken and the lava cake for dessert. I think this may be my first time trying Peruvian food! We came by one day for lunch and weren't sure if they were open since my friend has only even been for dinner. I'm surprised I've never heard, nor seen this place! I am definitely coming back. We got their lunch special for 2 courses = $17. We got the tequenos thinking they'd be small cheese sticks. Wrong. The first course was a great portion size and so delicious. The sauce they have paired with it is so scrumptious and perfect. For the 2nd course, she ordered the mahi mahi and I ordered the chicken stir fried rice. Both were recommendations from our waitress. The two of those dishes paired together = SO GOOD. UPDATE (10/9/20) We came to Latin Bites after deciding to give it another shot. This is my fourth time here. My first time, I absolutely loved it, so much that that I invited friends the second time. However, the third time, which was right after they re-opened at their new location with CoVid restrictions, I had a not-so pleasant experience. So we decided to give it another shot. I'm glad we did. The ambiance was significantly better. Not too loud, pleasant crowd and the booths create a semi-intimate experience for enjoying with friends/family/date. For drinks, we had a Cusco Mule and an Algarrobina. The cuscu mule (which I believe was made w pisco rather than vodka) was fucking delicious. Algarrobina is more of a sweet drink, I personally did not try it, but my date said it was really good. The Golden Fettuccine with beef tenderloin (tallarines en huancaina c/lomo saltado) was phenomenal. The pasta was perfect and the huancaina sauce had a bit of a spicy kick that made it enjoyable. The tenderloin was properly seared on the outside and cooked just right, Medium, and juicy AF. The churrasco a lo pobre was dope. The churrasco was tender and we had it medium-rare. Was really tasty. Glad I gave this place a shot again. Definitely coming back. The staff made it a point to graciously make up for our previous experience! read more

This was the perfect place to kick off my birthday weekend! Since I was coming through Houston, my friend decided to get reservations at 4 p.m. - what are we, 70?! It worked out well though, since we basically skipped lunch since we had to drive from Austin. We made a quick pit stop at a Spec's to pick up a couple of bottles of beer/wine since the place is BYOB (love that!). I've actually been to this place before, when the Dharma Cafe called this building home. It's still small and maybe seats 35. Since there were 4 of us, we got various things to sample: Appetizers: -Papas a la Crema: the potatoes were cooked beautifully and the three cremas on top were well-balanced and colorful. -Causitas: I thought the corn fritter was a little dense but the various meats on top were delicious. My fave was the pork. -Cebiche Mixto: Probably the best part of the meal! The plate was beautiful with large chunks of fish and octopus. The crunchy corn on the side was a perfect juxtaposition to the soft seafood. The acidity was perfect. Entrees: -Paella: Great color and a good amount of seafood. We were so full that we didn't eat this one in its entirety, went home in doggie bag. -Loma Soltado: Definitely reminds me of the vietnamese bo luc lac. Nothing amazing about the dish, but nothing wrong with it. -Saffron Fettucini: once again, great color and the fish was cooked perfectly. My sister really liked it and my boyf swiped several bites from it as well. Dessert: -we were so full, but since it was my birthday, the chef sent out the Latin Bites Terrine gratis. The terrine tasted good but the texture wasn't as smooth as we wanted it to be. The little dulce de leche balls were yummy mouthfuls though. I would recommend this place to anyone! I have family that lives around the corner, so this place is convenient. The breakfast tacos are good; the house made green salsa is out of sight. Some of the best I've had anywhere. The service, however, might prove to be a dealbreaker. I came in on a Sunday morning, and the place was virtually empty save for a Grub Hub driver, one occupied booth and a couple of people at the bar. I waited at the front desk for ten minutes to no avail. My dog roared at a passerby. Nada. I lost my patience and left, but damn, I wanted some of that salsa. So I called them from the parking lot, placed my order and got my tacos with intergalactic salsa. Mission accomplished. Is this all trivial bullshit? You bet it is. But it's also Yelp. What else are we supposed to do if not criticize and praise? I'll give this place another shot sometime, but shitty service is a cancer in the restaurant industry.
