From the moment we walked in the door until we pulled out of the parking lot after a brief conversation with the owner, we were treated like family - and this was my first visit. The pork boudin is crazy good. I have never had such tasty boudin in my life. Seriously, though f I lived near New Iberia I would be here every day trying something new and taking home my boudin in a freeze dried container to enjoy when they are closed. My friend had a couple of their pepper jack boudin balls and didn't share. Can't say I blame him at all. The location is easy to get to and parking was problem free. Inside we were met at the counter by very helpful and enthusiastic staff who offered a sample which got me hooked instantly... nice job! I will be back. As a matter of fact, we will both be back next time we travel to the area. If you live close; I'm jealous.

We used to love driving here for the ride to get great boudin and spend a couple hundred dollars. Being disappointed, I called and spoke to one of the owners about my "crawfish" boudin and asked if they were experiencing a drought with their crawfish. He replied, no and that they actually put more crawfish in their boudin this time. I'm like sir, no way. I've been coming here since 2018 and I know the difference. There was more rice and seasoning as opposed to what it's advertised as. I mean, honestly, if he'd said yeah, we're experiencing the same 2024 crawfish season drought that has been happening everywhere because of the saltwater intrusion, then I could understand but to lie and deny the difference was asinine. I thought perhaps they have loads of crawfish frozen somewhere to avoid a drought but the difference between the prior year's crawfish boudin in shape, color and taste is very noticeable from the 2024's boudin. Today's boudin looks like red hot links on steroids minus the red color. C'mon, just be honest, sheeeesh! While the truth matters, I won't be back anymore. Take a look at the pics and you can see the difference. Today, I bought seasoned rice boudin and not crawfish boudin.

The parking lot is a little tight and the entrance is really elevated keeping it safe from any flooding being the river is very close - once inside we found it really interesting and filled with lots of local delicacies, we walked over to the meat case where we assumed the plate lunches would be served and was greeted by a friendly employee. Unfortunately we missed the bbq being it was late afternoon and they were doing their clean up and we were told there were a few plates boxed up in a warming case off to the side, they were clearly marked but taped closed and I really didn't want to open them or buying them without seeing what was inside since we had no experience with this local grocer. I noticed there were several small paper bags labeled cracklins some chicken and one marked "rich-man cracklins" so I grabbed one of those thinking it would be a good snack for the ride back. Unfortunately they were not something we were accustomed too, they were very meaty and chewing verses the fried pork fat with a crispy rind we were hoping for and now we know this was a different version so we dismissed them after both trying one each. Although this visit didn't work out like we had hoped the store is very nostalgic and has a cool factor about it and the staff was very friendly and so it was definitely an interesting stop and I'd return when in the area to explore a few more of their offerings...

This review is based on my visit on June 25, 2025…read more I have seen this advertised in the Saint Joseph's church bulletin for a long time and finally decided to run in here instead of Piggly Wiggly. I run in because I'm going to make a Cajun spaghetti so I need ground meat, sausage, and decided to just do a jar sauce instead of making it from scratch. Was definitely having a conversation with one of the workers who was stocking the shelves on the spaghetti aisle about making it from scratch or the jar. Well, I decided to go jar and bring everything up to the counter and had the pleasure of encountering Edra. I put my things on the counter, keeping in mind I have never been into the store before and chose to go here over Piggly Wiggly, Edra begins checking me out and looks at me and says everyone is coming in here for spaghetti today. I say oh we all must be on the same wavelength. Then she proceeds to say, "y'all are all lazy because y'all don't make your sauce from scratch." It took every being of my cell to not react to this very out of line statement. I don't care who you are, how old you are, what position you hold calling customers that are choosing to come to your store over other grocery stores that I had to pass up to get here is flat out rude. I just looked at her smiled and said I hope that you have a great day. She did not bother to hand me the receipt or the bags I had to walk around the counter, grab the bags and the receipt and I walked out. Needless to say, I will not be shopping there anymore and will happily choose Piggly Wiggly any day. It really pains me to say this because I do believe in local shops and if it would've been any other day, I probably would have not been very nice to Edra

Don's has the classic gas station setup, a ready to eat counter with BBQ and Cajun options, snack aisles, and fridge full of Cajun specialties. We ordered cracklings, boudin balls and crawfish pie. The boudin balls were the stand out. The cracklings were fresh and crunchy, but the seasoning is underwhelming. The crawfish pie missed the mark completely, not much crawfish, very doughy and the seasoning was pretty bland. Compared to the undisputed champion (looking at you, Billy's) with huge lines 24/7, Don's is a good option if you're willing to trade some of the quality with the convenience of no wait time.
