Called before I went in to see how much 16 links would be, lady told me it would be around $30.00 being that it goes by weight. Went in this evening, at 6:00 P.M. I ordered 16 links of boudin that were supposed to have been FRESH. Was told it would be a 15-20 minute wait. Went back into the truck, waited 15 minutes, she met me at the door to let me know it was ready. Price before taxes was $57.04, price after taxes was $64.24. Do not recommend, the boudin was like it wasn't fully cooked. Very cold, and definitely was NOT fresh. Will not be back here again. Their boudin is my favorite in the Lafayette area, I prefer it over Don's because Don's links will sometimes have chunks of liver hiding in them and Chops either leaves the liver out or uses very little liver. I made the decision to stop patronizing Chops after a bad experience. I always have my links cut in half because I eat them in my car and it's much easier to manage. The lady at the back counter refused to cut them in half for me, stating that the boudin will pop open and spill out and make a mess because the boudin was too hot. I told her I didn't mind and to please cut mine up anyway and she seemed annoyed and she reluctantly cut them up for me. A different woman at the checkout told me it's their policy to not cut open freshly cooked links, stating the same reasons the woman at the back counter gave. I'm nearly 40 years old and I've ate boudin my entire life. This situation has never ever happened to me before, and rubbed me the wrong way because both women were seemingly bothered by my request. I'd like to note that the boudin they sliced up for me didn't explode, didn't make a mess, and were picture perfect when I ate them. You have such great food, it's a shame you felt the need to complicate things by implementing strange policies. Pro tip: Avoid the grocery items on the shelves, they are heavily marked up. I ordered a turkey and Corn bread dressing for Thanksgiving. The turkey was really juicy and cooked perfectly but the cornbread dressing wasn't eatable. Cracklins are one of my favorite snacks, and I've eaten hundreds of varieties from pretty much everywhere, and the cracklins from Chops are among the best. They are consistently fresh, warm, and well-seasoned. It's hard to put the bag down! Boudin, on the other hand, is pretty mediocre. read more

The best boudin! I've had boudin and other food here before so I know it's good. My sister came over for a visit from Texas and I was able to take her here for some good boudin. Very friendly and quick service. The next day she went to Heberts down the road to try theirs; while it was good we all agreed Chops is better. Absolutely loved Chops until they tried to rob me, and when I contacted them about the issue they told me to kick rocks. I'm cooking a gumbo for Thanksgiving and wanted to used Chops Andouille, some of the best I've ever had. Instead of driving across town I decided to use a delivery service called Waitr to bring about 4lbs of sausage to me while I cook. I checked the Waitr app and see Chops listed with andouille for $7.59 per unit. I don't see a weight listed so I call Chops and ask "How much is your Andouille per pound" they tell me "about $7.99". I also ask, how much is the weight y'all usually sell they tell me "about 1lb". Great so I order 4 units from the Waitr app. Once I receive the andouille each package has it's label removed where it lists weight and price. I whip out my scale and see each one is 6 ounces. So I contact them telling them each package is 6 ounces so I paid $7.59 per 6 ounces or $15.18 per pound! They tell me "We don't controller the prices on the app, and there's a difference of convenience." I then asked "can I cancel or refund this." (Keep in mind when using Waitr you pay a $5.00 delivery fee plus tip for the app. Here it's only Chops charging me and extra $18 for andouille.). They tell me there is nothing they can do and I would need to contact Waitr. I call Waitr and they do confirm that Chops sets the prices and it would have to be Chops to issue the refund. Since Chops would not help, Waitr ended up refunding me the $18 "convenience" tax. Ridiculous treatment for a customer who went out of there way to purchase your product. I could've bought sausage from the dozens of store between my house and Chops store but I chose them for quality and taste and this is how they treat a fellow Louisiana neighbor? This is why Acadiana companies are failing in this tough economy. YIKES!!! read more

Came in here for lunch when I was passing through the area for work. I got the plate lunch, which on this particular day turned out to be baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and carrots. It also came with bread and a cookie. The chicken and sides were what you might expect from a plate lunch - nothing out of this world, but good enough to hit the spot. The cookie was an interesting twist to a plate lunch, and this one was peanut butter, which is near the top of my favorites, so that was nice. Also, I bought a small bag of 'cracklin crumbs.' I love me some cracklin, so I had to try a bag full of just the crumbs. You know how you always save the crunchy french fries until last because they're the best ones? That's what cracklin crumbs are like, except it's cracklin. So yeah. All the folks in there were nice enough, but I wish there was more than one table to eat at. Would be nice to be able to eat in a place that serves plate lunches. read more

Chops was one of the stops on the Cajun Food Tour. Excellent boudin, wonderful selection of sausages and wines. This is such a fun grocery/meat market. Very disappointed with the cracklins and boudin since you have reopened. You were my favorite. I now find the cracklins to have an odd texture and overly seasoned.
