Called to make a last minute appointment for a balayage and they were able to fit me in. I asked for a balayage and wanted to get it as light as possible. Stephie did an awesome job. She was very sweet and personable. I love how I was in and out in an hour and a half. Most places I go to to get my hair done takes over 3 hours! I live in Florida and NY. I have been looking non stop for a place in NJ/NY area. I explained this to hair stylist. I go in because I need a blowout. Thinking she would take that into consideration and do an amazing job. She even asked how often I get blowouts (I told her weekly). I have thick long wavy hair. My hair holds curls well and I explained that. Her comment "wow here's my workout for the day". Then asking what's my ethnicity?!! I get a blowout because I know it's tasking and I don't want to hear the comments. I've lived with it all my life. I left paying $55 unhappily and mediocre hair style. read more

This is a between 2 star and 3 star. I'm not too thrilled, but not entirely disappointed either. I've a mixed opinion. About end result - Fact: the weather wasn't fair, so the turn out wasn't good either - a hair wash and blow dry just didn't make it better. BUT, even then, I've previously had good luck (given similar weather tantrums). Hence the dissatisfaction. About the convenience of walking in - Fact: they sent me back, even though their info on Yelp says to walk ins are welcome. Meh! Not really. About the price - fact: for the outcome, the $$ is much! The hair wash was incomplete, the lady who did my hair (second booth from the door...) didnt reach all areas of my head, esp the neck-head base area, behind the ears. So, the oil stayed. Went in for a deep conditioning and trim. The woman who did my hair was nice, but didn't do a great job. My face framing layers are not even and look very choppy. Her coworker seemed to be very rude to the newest woman working there, which is fine if you don't like someone but don't make side comments to your coworkers while customers are watching and listening. I bought a groupon deal that was $17 for $35 at Lather Lounge for wash, conditioning, and cut. At first, I assumed blowdry was in the package then later discovered it would be extra and I accepted that. The blow dry alone came out to be 45. That's a little much for a blowdry! Blowdry was alright (again, overpriced) but after my next hairwash, I saw how poor my haircut was. My bangs were not layered as I asked them to be; they looked like they were cut in two strokes. My stylist said she'd come back in 10 min while my hair conditioned and came back in 15. I'm assuming she's had little experience because it wasn't professional, at least not worth paying over 60. If anything, it was worth $35. Won't be coming back here. I only tried out this place because it was much closer than my usual salon, Akane at Fort Lee. They massage your scalp during wash to relieve stress, put a lot of time in each section of your hair, and tell you what they're going to do and explain why they will do this and that. Never had a complaint except for when I had a junior stylist but with a pro it's generally around $50 for wash+massage, cut, and blowdry. No complaints, hair came out great every time. read more

The price is right, the hairdressers are great, the place is beautifully decorated, warm & inviting. I love that they have phone chargers set up for you if you need charging. It's just an easy little extra something, but it goes a long way. We knew the crew before they opened the Lather Lounge. We followed them because of there professionalism and friendliness. The shop is warm and inviting. I always get a cut from Jess and she does an amazing job. My husband goes to whoever is available since we always just walk-in without appointments. As a hair dresser my self I decided to try a salon close to my house for a quick peaceful blowout. I have never been to lather lounge before so being it was my first time there you would expect to have a great experience and be treated nicely. This place is horrible and the woman that did my hair was so mean and had no idea what she was doing. When she greated me she wasn't nice at all, didn't say hi how are you nice to meet you, just said "let's go back to the sink and get washed." As she was washing me she noticed I had tape in extensions and continued to ask when did you get them done? When was the last time you had them put in. Didn't ask me about my day, nothing. She was a miserable woman. Super unprofessional. She started blowing out my hair, I have never ever seen someone blowout extensions or hair the way she did. It was like she had no idea what the hell she was doing. Like a 5 year old was blowing out my hair. I kept telling her nicely to go over the damp pieces and she raised her voice and said "I'm not done yet". As she got close to the end of this horrible blowout experience, she loaded my hair with oil to mask the horrible frizzy puffy blowout. I was not going to pay for this, it was a horrible experience, one because my hair looked horrible and two because this woman was so mean and nasty to me. I went to the front to check out and nicely said this doesn't look good as a hair dresser my self I know what a good blowout should look like and there were no clients in the salon besides me and just other co workers and the other co workers just starred at me like I was crazy and stuck up for the woman who did my hair and said let her fix it and at this point I wanted to leave I felt so uncomfortable the woman who did my hair started raising her voice again and said I can straighten your hair if you want your extensions are so far from the root, basically saying it was hard to blowout my hair. Listen as someone who has worked in this industry I understand blowing out extensions can be hard but even if the tapes are far from the root which they are not... it shouldn't be hard to make the blowout smooth. My hair looks horrible and so frizzy. She then said "the blowouts on me" not even sorry nothing. This was a horrible horrible experience I'm so upset. I live in the area and I will be telling everyone I know to never go to this disgusting horrible unprofessional rude place. Or the woman who did my hair she was a heavy set lady with curly blonde messy hair. She's horrible do not go to her. read more

Dianna not only fit us in with very short notice, she recommended and helped coordinate an amazing make up artist (Lindsay at Cos Bar). Christina did my 13 year old daughter's hair and Romana did mine. We loved the results and found them both so easy to work with. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an affordable haircut with no wait time in the salon. I have thick, curly hair and don't like having layers or anything fancy done. In the past I've had a hard time finding someone who knows how to cut curly hair and who listens when I say I just want a straight across cut with no layers. I was really satisfied with the way everything came out and the amount that she took off. It had been a really long time since I last cut my hair and she even told me that I could probably use a bit more off but to just come back when I'm comfortable going shorter. 10/10 read more

I'm glad I gave Lather Lounge a try, because the results were good. Laura's a nice stylist and easy to talk to. Also their prices are super affordable especially for Bergen county. I went in about a week ago for a blowout. The lady who blew out my hair was very disrespectful and rude at times. For example, she would ask me a question and when I would answer she would look away at one of her coworkers and roll her eyes. My hair came out ok (nothing special) but it felt sticky and gross. I have a few different ladies cut my hair but Rebecca has been cutting my hair for about a year now and I love her! Found out about this salon through a Groupon I purchased-($17 for a haircut, lather and deep conditioning treatment-there were other options from the groupon deal to add on a blow dry and/or a glaze in addition to what I had purchased for only a few dollars more depending on the package selected) I called the salon, spoke to Melanie(whom I wanted to and requested to do my hair being that I read the company website Stylist profiles and really wanted her!) She was able to accommodate me immediately, asking when I would like to come in and offering a few options even after I mentioned I had learned about the salon through a Groupon. In the past, I had purchased Groupons and when I went to use them, salons or merchants made it very difficult to schedule and use, appointments were allotted with only select stylists and specific stipulations for Groupon customers and were not very customer service oriented or friendly seemingly because I was using the deal voucher and not a regular client just a first time(and in these cases where treated like that last time client). Lather Lounge was very stylish, immaculately clean, offered a good product line of high end hair products and it was an upbeat and friendly atmosphere. All of the girls working, seemed very nice and focused on making their clients nothing but happy. My stylist in particular, Melanie was so, so awesome! I was hesitant due to other first time experiences at other salons, but needed to find a new stylist and I am so glad to have found her!! She was so up to date with cut and color techniques and just had a genuine passion, art and talent for doing hair. I was so comfortable with her and her expertise that I gave a brief idea of what I wanted and just let her do what she thought would look best. The cut she did was outstanding! Even before she finished I could just tell it turned out so nice and def exceeded my expectations. She made my first time as a Lather Lounge client a comfortable and wonderful experience, great girl with a great personality and professional demeanor at the same time! This place completely ruined my hair a couple years ago. I wanted ombré and I left with plastic/rubber hair that was falling out the moment I put my fingers through it. If I could give them 0 stars, I would have. I had an appointment for my son, 2 yrs old, to get his haircut this morning. I understand that things happen and schedules change, but when I drag all three kids (4, 2, and 9 months) out in the rain to get to his appointment on time, only to be told my stylist isn't going to be there today? I asked why no one bothered to call me and the girl nonchalantly explained it was because they didn't have our phone number. Perhaps, then, when taking appointments in the future, you should take the clients' phone numbers to avoid this situation. Their apology was forced and we won't be returning. I turned around and went to Frank's Barber Shop on Main St. and will be using them from now on. Lather Lounge has lost our family business. read more
