Alyx has become my favorite stylist by far and the only stylists I make appointments with 4 weeks in advance. I even take my 10 year old son here. She's busy as heck (deservedly so) but for guys in the area, it's well worth it to get on her schedule. For those of us with some challenges like thinning crowns and cowlicks, Alyx shapes and styles like no one else. I booked Tanya and Mady for Makeup on my wedding day for myself, 3 bridesmaids and mother of groom and bride. They were absolutely amazing. They were right there ready and waiting when we were, they were so accommodating and understanding of everything we wanted, from natural looking to full on glam. Several different skin types and tones and all ages that day. Everyone looked absolutely perfect. We were complimented all day and night and the makeup lasted until we took it off. I've been coming to Stag House for over 3 years now. Even dating back to when they were located in Glen Rock. Since being here in Saddle River you could see all the great improvements that they made and continue to make to ensure all customers are comfortable and satisfied. The whole Stag House team is full of some incredibly talented people and I'd happily get my hair cut by any of those barbers/barberess'. But Rachel suggested a different styling and it came out great. All of the people at Stag House really know their stuff. I can honestly say that this is my favorite barber shop in the US. Lucky for me it happens to be close enough to frequent often. Let me start by saying I train salons nationwide and have been to 100's of them from local to international award winning. I do not color my hair frequently, but do when I have specific events. They have a knack for blending my gray in a way that really gives me just enough to make it work for my age (almost 50). I have had my color done by both Jess and Gwen and both were fantastic and their cut worked perfectly with the color. I have also had my cut done by Shawna and Briana on occasion and they were both so good I couldn't vote on who was best. I should also note that being in the industry I have worn my hair in various degrees of length. They have not only done great work, but are rock stars in giving me a great cut and making it work for my semi difficult hair. The staff was rude. I had an appointment for a simple haircut and was made to wait 20 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment. It's as if they didn't respect my time. Not even the slightest bit of contrition either. They jus let me sit there with no update as to hat was going on. Gave them a second chance and this time the employees are outside smoking when their customers are on the inside waiting. Nobody is smiling and they just seem miserable to be there. I like getting my hair cut. However, they failed on 2 accounts. 1. poor / unprofessional attitude with no respect for the customers time. 2. Their colorists are horrific. At least the bad haircut I got grew back, the color however is still with me and is like a poke in the eye every time I see myself in the mirror. My search for a professional barber experience continues. There are better shops out there that I will now patronize, even if it costs me more... You get what you pay for. I suspect that the Stag House employee are all very young and have received poor training. read more

Great spot. I'm at an age where I don't want to wait in a crumby barber shop, watching ESPN for 30-40 mins, just to get a mediocre haircut from a guy named Franky or Tony. For a few dollars more, I go here, I get a set appointment, a great cut, a hot shave and a hair wash. Jody has been doing my hair over a year now and she always does a great job. Ok so what can I say that I haven't already said about Rachel and the shave I get at Stag House. From the minute you walk in you feel comfortable as the whole staff knows you by name. Home made pre-save, home made shave cream, hot towels and plenty of them followed by a skin-tight straight razor shave. Then an ice cold towel straight from the freezer. Today was my first time at Stag House, and to say I was impressed is an understatement. To start, the customer service and the ambience was simply impeccable. I was taken immediately, and for my first (of many) cuts was done by Gwen. There aren't enough great things to say about Gwen, she was so well versed, explained every step of the process, ensured my experience was top notch and even went as far to discuss the pricing options. I learned my lesson at a young age. I would go down to a chain haircut superstore, get my hair butchered and then have to go home I shave it all off to avoid the eraser top look. From that point forward I vowed that I would only go to the best to get my haircuts. In the past fifteen years, I have only been to three spots. On top of that, I was never the one to make an appointment to get my haircut, preferring to walk in but now I am afraid of losing my spot with Christine so I book my next haircut at each visit. I also bring my two little boys to her - she is awesome with them and it costs the same as all the kiddie places but the results are way better. Awesome experience with Chris and Chel at Stag today. I'm not usually a "salon" kind of guy, I don't go for the $10 StupidCuts, but at the same time I don't like paying $75 for somebody to pamper me and tell me how amazing my pores are. Somehow, the genius women at Stag have found exactly the right balance. It's masculine and to the point, but also sexy and hip. They took incredible care of me, without being embarrassing or artificial. Most importantly, Chel did an amazing job. She cleaned up my beard and got rid of the gray. Not only did listen to me she give me what I asked for, she treated me to a complimentary moisturizing face mask before doing my makeup. I am not one to ever post a negative review but I really feel that I should in this case. I had very long curly hair that was in desperate need of a hair cut because it was so dry and damaged. I asked for an apt with Christine but she was unavailable so the girl on the phone said to go with Jodi. I told her I want to cut maybe 2 inches which ended up being more like 5-6 when she finished, I asked for layers only by my face just to add some volume. She cut my hair unevenly, the back is shorter and some parts are just so uneven I can't even wear it down. I'm just very upset with how my hair came out. read more

I made an appointment for a cut and blow out with a female stylist. That went extremely well. I made an appointment about a week later just felt like getting my hair washed and blown out. When the same stylist saw me she asked me if I wanted a haircut. I thought to myself she just cut my hair a week or so ago and she forgot. I told her I just wanted a wash and a blow dry I was quite surprised that she didn't know. I then proceeded to ask her if she remembered how she did it the last time she said yes. As I sat in the chair I remembered that she was not drying my hair the same way. The first time she dried my hair I said please don't make me look like that Farrah Fawcett blowout. I was very very upset she did not remember and she did the Farrah Fawcett blowout. I think I was so upset I didn't even tip her. If I were a hairstylist I would definitely have written down all the information about my new client the day that I met her. She lost a client because she did not take the time to write it down. She also left one piece of my hair so short that I could not put it in a ponytail and I told her that I have to wear my hair up. It's been two months now and I still have to bobby pin that piece of hair. So she did not measure the strands. read more

After the Covid-19 reopening, I signed up for a men's haircut using the Mindbody app. Upon their recommendation, I used the "any stylist" option because of the high demand. Without any notice on the app, the multiple emails, and many texts they sent me about the new policies, never did they mention that I would be charged $47, instead of the base $27 for a standard haircut, because the "any stylist" I was given charges more than others. When I was there, I even bought a cream from them in hopes of supporting a local business, when I clearly could have bought a very similar product on Amazon for far cheaper. I didn't realize the price of the cut until I got home (since it was all contactless). I called in search of a good explanation of the lack of transparency of the pricing. When explaining my confusion with Jamie, the manager, I received a very nonchalant answer that all the pricing is on their website, and somehow I was expected to know that. Since they use a 3rd party app, she explained that they cannot put pricing on Mindbody. I said that some type of message or notification informing me what I was getting myself into would have been extremely helpful but she seemed to have little interest in improving the app they encourage people to use! Jamie told me she hopes I know for next time. Stag needs to work on their marketing and customer service if they want to maintain customers because they have certainly lost me. I love everything about this place! So, I've had extreme cuts and colors in the distant past...everything from a shaved head to long blue hair and whatever is in between. I don't get my hair done often anymore--I haven't even dyed it at all in 5 years. But I wanted to try something different and this seemed like the right place to go. I asked my stylist (Roseann) to give me a balayage. I told her I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted but I wasn't worried about a big change. Since I don't go to the salon often, she let me know that she would like to do something a little more subtle so that I don't have to get it touched up for a while, and that it would continue to lighten since I work outside all summer. I was grateful that she had a plan she was confident with, and I agreed. I was very happy with how it turned out--the color didn't stand out in a shocking way, but the combination of the color and trim made me looked polished and put together. 2 months and a lot of sun later, my balayage is still lightening and people are asking if I just got my hair done. It's nice to have a stylist who really understands how to make your hair look great and work with your lifestyle. I'll be back to see Roseann soon! read more
