BBQ plate is not very good. Wish I chosen the meat and three, but don't expect I'll be back.

I've been to Latham's a dozen times. Yes they smoke things. Yes they have barbecue sauce. Even still, I am find myself not excited to go here. Maybe it's the building in serious need of renovation. Maybe it's my palate. (I love BBQ, but am mystified by this place.) Three stars for the fact that they are an institution and they have a wide variety of smoked meats (not just pulled pork). Just three stars because this really isn't anything to write home about. read more

Iam surprised this place has been open so long the food is horrible. I have gone their a few times and it has never tasted good.

Latham's has the best pulled pork I have ever tasted. Every time I visit Jackson, I try to stop in for a yummy treat. This time I came in for the breakfast which I had just learned that they were serving. I had an egg, pork tenderloin and tomato biscuit. It was very tasty. My family tried their chocolate gravy (definitely a tradition in this little town). It was cream based, but although I prefer the more syrupy kind, it was still pretty yummy. You just can't go wrong with home-cooking and good BBQ here. If you're in Jackson, don't pass it up. read more

Looks like a great place to buy your meat, but I was not impressed with the BBQ. It had very little flavor and no smoke at all. The sauce was watery and thin with out much to recommend it. Honestly, I have had better BBq at a convenience store and only gave it three stars because the meat market side looks good. read more

Paul Latham is as hospitable as his BBQ is delicious; despite being closed for a party, he had us come anyway for takeout - so glad we did.

Best breakfast. Best for meat and 3 for lunch. My favorite is the fried bologna sandwich. Had one and a large sweet tea jut about every morning on way to school when I was pregnant with my twins. Love lathams. read more

I love Lathams all around! Warning: Don't go here if you're on a diet. Their portions are very large, very flavorful, and naturally pretty fatty. The ribs are probably the best I've had anywhere. They don't come with any sauce on them, which I like because they don't need it. The hickory smoked flavor speaks for itself. Oh, and if you're looking for a great sandwich there, the BLT is a sure winner as well. They literally put 7 or 8 strips of bacon on each sandwich along with two thick slices locally grown tomatoes and fresh lettuce. Very delicious! This place has the best pulled pork sandwich I ever had. You can get your sandwich with or without coleslaw. Very large portion and great sides, I tried the potato salad and beans which were both very good as well. Lathams also offer great meat packages at reasonable prices. read more

Took my family here on memorial day based on previous reviews. This has to be the worst barbeque restaurant around. BBQ was full of fat and had a watery BBQ sauce. Baked beans cold and out of a can. Steam table had dried out food and looked dirty. They were not that busy and tables were dirty. Don't have a problem with paying a fair price but cannot believe they are serving this as BBQ. No one friendly and pushed you thru this line with no clean trays to even put paper plate on. Drinks watered down. Tea does not cost so much that you water down to no taste at all. Imagine a business that doesn't need new customers. Went in at 9 am the day before Thanksgiving...still reasonable time for breakfast. Was going to get some sausage biscuits and bacon biscuits for my wife and her staff...about 6 biscuits. I first searched for a menu and then saw a piece of paper hanging on the serving bar and walked to it to peruse. A tired voice on the other side of the bar said "can I get you something?" I said "I want 3 sausage and egg biscuits..." and was about to add "...and 3 bacon biscuits" when she gruffly said "we don't got no sausage" and began waving her hand frustratingly above the empty bin that I can only imagine once held sausage...like she was frustrated at me for wasting her time by ordering something that I should have known fully was no longer available at such a "late hour" in the day. So I said "just fix me 6 bacon biscuits." The woman then looked past me and to a man in the background behind me looking at something else and said "sir...are you going to want bacon?" Maybe he was there before me...maybe he wasn't...but he clearly wasn't at the breakfast bar ordering bacon! So I was insulted and walked out vowing never to return. Probably an overreaction...but I was the customer after all...right? So I went home and after staying frustrated...I decided to call and ask for owner/manager and got Tim on the phone. I gave him my name and explained I was not happy with Latham's level of customer service over what had happened. Tim began to make the excuse about how it was the day before Thanksgiving and they were all tired. I interrupted him and said I didn't want hear his excuse...and then TIM had the audacity to call me rude! Really? I am the customer...and I am the one who is rude? Just because I interrupted him because I didn't want to hear his excuse? Well...all I was going to do was let Tim know about my experience so that maybe he could correct it...but after he called me rude...I decided to sign up for Yelp and write my review. You decide...but I've been in PLENTY of country stores where the people are wonderful and the style and decor of the place were genuinely authentic...and I have to tell you this place has none of those attributes. Sorry for the exhaustive piece of reading here...but had to get it off my chest. And THAT's my first ever review anywhere on the internet ever! Congratulations Latham's...you're the one who managed to spur me to write my first review. And really Tim...it was you that got all this out of me...because I have NEVER had the proprietor of any business actually be the one to call me rude. For that reason and that reason alone...me...my wife...and the dozen or so people in my immediate family will not shop at Latham's ever...and when I was looking for a new place to kind of start a fond patronage of. Beautiful sunny warm day in March and wanting a good BBQ sandwich. When I worked in Lexington TN I would go to Scott's BBQ once a week. Since I retired and live in Jackson thought I would try Lathams Meat Market. Ordered 2 regular pulled sandwiches with vinegar slaw. 1 hot and the mild sauce to go. Got to to the ball park and noticed the grease that leaked to the bottom of the paper sack. Unwrapped the sandwich and the grease soaked bun just fell apart. No sauce hardly at all and grease soaked BBQ. Will never return. Will drive 25 miles to get good BBQ at Scott's. read more

This is the best barbecue restaurant in west TN.! Latham's has been in Jackson a long time and still cooks their barbecue over real wood. The pork sandwiches, ribs, chicken, bologna, brisket , etc. are as good as it gets. The servings are large and the food is outstanding. The breakfast they served is the traditional country ham, bacon, sausage eggs etc .At lunch they serve all the barbecue specialties and a large variety of home cooked vegetables. You will know you reached Latham's when you smell the meat cooking and see the busy parking lot. This is the real thing. read more
