Great place to buy a special piece or a gift for someone that appreciates classic USA made apparel and accessories. I'd like to apologize for not reviewing sooner!! This is a REAL hat store…read more This family-owned business has been a fixture in the valley for decades, and while I used two different hatmakers when I lived and worked in Colorado, they didn't come close to the expertise of this outfit. As a native to the valley, the damage from sun exposure began as an outside kid. As a young adult starting out as a horse professional, I wore what most people wore - a basball cap. In my 30's, the dermatologists began their annual battle to repair the damage, instructing me to 'stay out of the sun'. Yeah, right. After one session of extensive repair, Doc really chewed me out! I explained my work, to which he exclaimed, 'Then wear a real hat!' The baseball cap only shaded my eyes, not my face, nose, chin, ears, neck, chest... and the damage was requiring surgeons. Seriously. So began my quest to every western shop to try to make a hat work for me. I had no idea that the pain & headache was because the shape of my head IS NOT ROUND, like most people, yet every off the shelf hat is! To wear a hat snug enough to stay on while horseback, yet comfortable, seemed impossible. One day I was miserable with yet another 'round' hat I was forcing myself to wear when someone told me about a place that makes quality hats exactly to the shape of your head, allowing for even, comfortable pressure. No way! What? Don't even know what I did with those stupid round torturous hats. Might've run them over with the truck AND trailer! You can imagine the rest! That antique contraption they use to get the shape of your noggin is the game-changer! Over 30 years, Az-Tex has made probably 6 hats for me, worn morning to night outside working. They last forever, and my new hats were usually a style change I was looking for. They clean up like brand-new and are really an item one could pass down to kids or grandkids. Retired now, I go there for my golf hats! So, again, sorry I hadn't reviewed before now! Thank you, Az-Tex! Your expertise made my career so much easier!

We stopped by Shirts 'n' Things in Mesa, and this place is pretty cool! The best way I can describe…read moreit is like a massive, much better version of Hot Topic, but geared more toward people who are actually into rock, heavy metal, gothic clothing, and that whole style. First off, this store is huge, and I don't think I've ever seen so many graphic tees in one place in my entire life. Seriously, the amount of shirts they have is insane! If there's a rock or heavy metal band you like, there's a pretty good chance they have a shirt for it. They also have tons of other clothing, studded accessories, and all sorts of things that fit that rock and gothic style. They also have a really good selection of horror movie merchandise. We saw stuff from Terrifier, Scream, Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and plenty of other horror-related items. Beyond the clothing, they have some really cool décor, skulls, insect-themed decorations, and all sorts of unique things you probably aren't going to find at your typical retail store. One thing that stood out to me was the quality of everything. Nothing really looked cheap or chintzy. A lot of the merchandise seemed well made, and you could tell this wasn't just a store full of cheap novelty items. The couple of employees we crossed paths with were really nice and offered to help if we needed anything, which was appreciated. The store itself is packed with merchandise, but that's also part of what makes it fun to walk around and explore. My only minor complaint would be the prices. They're a little on the higher side, but nothing outrageous. You're definitely paying a bit of a small specialty shop premium compared to something you'd pick up at Walmart, but the selection and quality seem to make up for that. Overall, this is a really cool store, even if you're just browsing. If you're into rock, heavy metal, horror movies, or gothic-style clothing and décor, this is definitely a place worth checking out. The selection alone makes it worth a visit!

I visited the store yesterday as it was a calm summer day, and they had some 40% sales on the 2nd floor. Parking on the street or visitor parking in nearby parking structures. It's also a short walk from the Fulton Center, Mountain America Stadium, and Desert Financial Arena (and the rest of the north side of the ASU Tempe campus). I'm not sure of the price, but there is a charge. There is also a Grab-n-Go location on the first floor with food and drinks including meal deals, a Coca Cola freestyle machine, and F'real milkshakes. On the second floor is a Venezia's pizza location along with a Sun Devil Technology Center with an Apple Computer Repair and more. There is also an active store online, where you can sign up for e-mails and get 10% off today by going to https://www.bkstr.com/arizonastatestore. Every now and then, there are clearance sales or employee or alumni appreciation sales including discounts on Apple educator prices each year. Last year, I recall a promotion where many products were 75% or more off in a grand clearance, which I've only seen happen once every so many years.
