Every successful business owner knows that the secret to being profitable and staying in business is not solely in the sale of a product, service or merchandise, but how the customer is treated during and after the sale. Word of mouth travels great distances. Phoenix Motor Leathers has lost that simple concept in treating customers and doing what's right, opposed to doing only what policy says. It's like the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. Wouldn't you rather get a warning for speeding than a ticket? I know I would. I never had an issue at the prior location (Joeta's), actually they were great at customer service and I spent a lot there. I too fell victim to their ridiculous return policy during this pandemic. Bought a jacket that I wanted to exchange and we get hit by the shut down and stay at home order. I called several times only to get a recording. Thinking they were closed like most everyone else, I waited it out to open so I can do my exchange. I was told they were opened the entire time and I'm passed the 30 day window to return an unused jacket with tags and receipt that I can't wear. Who would have thought that a motorcycle clothing store that apparently sells "safety equipment", qualifies as a necessary business to remain open during the shut down. Instead of doing the right thing and do an even exchange, you had to stick it to your loyal customer base (fellow bikers) and tell them "tough shit". Well, even tho I'm only one customer, I do have $$ to spend at one of several other competitors out there who actually do care about their customers. Been riding for ever and the best I first purchased "shrank" lol. Perhaps I grew a bit. However, the gals at Phoenix Motor Leathers helped me pick out a new vest "that fit" took all my old patches off and put them on the new vest and it looks great. They told me I could save money taking the patches off myself but who has that kind of time. These gals know what the heck they are doing and are simply fun to do business with. This company is AWESOME! I had a fairly new Alpine Stars jacket that had a issue with the nylon zipper coming apart at the bottoms and would open at mid to high speeds on my motorcycle. Brought it in around 3pm fully expecting at least a few days or more to be done. They called the next day and it had a solid metal zipper. Just great turnaround, really friendly group. Really love this little store. The gals in the shop are always so helpful and patient. I've had several patches sewn on here and they always do a fantastic job. I purchased my last leather vest here and had a big american flag skull sewn on the back and it looks incredible. They have a whole selection of unique patches available for purchase, as well as a large variety of helmets, jackets, leather cuts, motorcycle gloves and even cool biker rings. Loved the service I received. I went in on a budget, bought a leather vest, got it home and realized that it really wasn't for me. Took it back a few days later and swapped it for a much more fitting textile vest. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and personable. As a first time buyer of chaps and with an older body, I was a little was a little anxious. After a round of good humor by all, the fitting began. As it happened there were four buyers of chaps in the store with me, all first timers. I tried on two chaps, showed how to get in and out. All four buyers were shown the 'chap roll' one at a time. The chaps were fitted on the spot within minutes of selection. I was a very enjoyable experience, staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. And the humor was a bonus. This little shop is great! I had several patches seen on my vest and they did them right away while I shopped. He even touched up a couple that were coming loose he noticed at no charge. Return policy is ridiculous. No cash refunds ever. And return for exchange only within 30 days. I brought my item back on day 37 and they refused. If anyone has any kind of life 30 days is not enough time. Will never shop there again. read more

I went into this place hopeful, and it all went well to start. I bought 3 pairs of jeans that I love...still do, and a rain suit for my boyfriend who wasn't with me as he was working. The problem started when I TOLD them in the shop that he took an XL and all they had was a L. I told the woman in there that I wasn't sure if a large would fit him or not and she told me to have him try it on and if it didn't fit, bring it back to exchange for the XL. This happened on March 12 which was only a few weeks before the mandatory state lockdown on March 30 of all but non-essential businesses (which included this shop, obviously) for the coronavirus. We called them repeatedly and not once did they ever answer their phone, so being from out of town, it was apparent they were closed. Unfortunately, when my boyfriend finally had the opportunity to try on the rain suit, it did not fit and I could not return it within the 30 days due to the state wide shut down. We are now trying to EXCHANGE it and they refuse to take it citing the 30 day return policy, even with proof of the sale!! To add more insult to injury, they're telling us, or should I say LYING to us, by saying they were open the entire time, which is blatantly NOT true as this business is DEFINITELY not essential AND they never answered their phone to tell us otherwise!! This rain suit still has the tags on it and has never been worn outside of it being tried on for fit. I don't want my money back, I want only an even exchange which they refuse. So many businesses are accommodating for people during this virus, but this business is not. I frequently purchase items in this shop during Motorcycles on Main every month, but will not shop here again after this incident. I will tell all my other biker friends and my HOG group not to shop there either due to their horrible customer service to fellow bikers. There's absolutely no reason for them not to exchange this unworn suit for a larger size other than being unreasonable jerks. If I could give this business a negative rating, I would. Not helping out fellow bikers and making an exception during a pandemic tells you a lot about a business and the people running it and I will not shop here again. I guess this place doesn't really want return customers. And as a personal note, if looters ever descend in Mesa, I hope they ravage this store cause business owners like this will NOT be missed in these trying times. read more

This review is for the Avondale location. It's great that there is finally a shop on the Westside for biker gear and what not; The floor is super cool and the shop dog is nice. The one consistent employee, Poptart, is a Rockstar (kind of makes one wonder why such a glaringly noticeable high turnover rate?) The selection is hit and miss. Pricing is a little hard to swallow, especially for sewing; An upcharge to change the color of thread. If a patch is too be sewn on a pocket, or if a zipper needs to be undone for access, there's another upcharge. If the patch isn't a basic square or circle, there's an upcharge. I might be mistaken on this, but I didn't realize that a service, such as sewing, was taxable; I thought only products were taxable? (Again, this only pertains to the Avondale location. Y'all might want to check your receipts if you ever had any sewing done there.) What about military discounts? Sure- if you spend $350 or more. What if you need to return something because it doesn't fit or you change your mind? No cash refunds- store credit only. No "ifs", "ands" or "buts" about it. I waited 3 weeks for them to get there embroidery machine for stretch hats up and running to add a name to my hat. I'm guessing it was the manager, because it wasn't the seamstress, that was rude and condescending. If she would of known I was going to spend 2-3 hundred dollars in her store while I was waiting on them to put 3 letters on my hat I wonder if she would have been such a b***** and in front of my young daughter. I guess we will never know. I hate it for the other employees because they have been great helping me with other purchases I made in that store but I'm done. I'll never set foot in there again and hopefully none of my brothers will either. read more

This last Saturday 6/05 we entered the shop with some somewhat suspect sewing work performed by another shop, the crew immediately started on resolving the issue and had our items back to us in under three hours. Worst customer service I have experienced in some time. The owner is a complete sham and does not stand by the word of her Staff. We picked up a vest and left only to return a few minutes later when we realized there was an issue. There was a charge for keeping the pockets open, which we paid, but they were sewn through. When we returned she noticed that there was an issue with an undercharge of $5 dollars, on a $130 job they had for 2 weeks. She's not only took a blade to the vest and threatened to take off all the patches, but then insisted we pay the $5 that was missed, without fixing the sewn through issues. Terrible customer service. We left without paying the $5 or getting it fixed. She "banned" us for standing up for what was right. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Found a leather jacket here but only because the price was marked wrong. The store owner was pretty rude when I asked for a military discount. However, the store associate who helped us, was very friendly and helpful. They should seriously consider giving a military discount. Most likely will not go back. What a rip-off place! My wife and I stopped in on November 1 2019 during the Motorcycles On Main. My wife found a jacket she liked and then a ladies vest. One of the assistants gratefully offered to hold the jacket my wife selected behind the counter while my wife tried on the vest. We then went to the counter to checkout and pay for our selections. Only to find the jacket no longer there. They went to get another one. NOW the vest my wife decided on was on a free standing rack with identical vests ONLY. Although the vest was pre-priced at 38.00 the rack had a sale sign above that stated a price of 32.00. At the checkout the person charged us 38.00 plus the price of the jacket. When I showed her the price on the rack she called over an associate, asked for the 32.00 sign and changed it to 38.00 with a marker pen!!! she then said "there, it is now 38.00" !!!! At this point we walked out! She not only lost a substantial sale BUT ALSO a customer and every future customer I can talk to. read more
