I had a hat refurbished by Rich that was over 35 years old, it was in rough shape having been wore in rain, snow, desert heat and cold. I made the drive out to Heritage Hats specifically to look at the Stetson 6X Open Road, which was listed on their website for $219.95. When I arrived, the in‑store price was $330. When I asked about the difference, I was told that prices have been going up and are expected to rise again in January. He told me he was waiting to update his website then. That meant the price advertised online wasn't honored, even though it's what brought me into the store in the first place. I ended up driving about 30 minutes each way only to find out the actual price was more than $100 higher than what they publicly posted. I left disappointed and won't be returning. At the very least, the website should reflect current pricing, so customers don't waste their time. read more

We had a great experience at Heritage Hat Company, and a lot of that is thanks to Rich, the owner. We came in looking for something very specific: a medium-brim, Gus-style black hat, in a particular size. Andrew that turned out to be harder to find around town than expected. Several other shops simply didn't carry Gus crowns at all. At Heritage, not only were there multiple Gus-style options, but they were available in the size we needed, which made the difference immediately. Rich took the time to understand exactly what we were looking for, walked us through the options without any pressure, and clearly knows his craft inside and out. The depth of inventory and his experience really show. If you're serious about hats -- especially if you're looking for a specific crown shape or fit -- this is a place worth visiting. I started going to heritage hats a few years ago when my brother was looking for a new hat shop. We used to like going to Goorin Bros. Back when they still had physical locations but had to find somewhere new and local after they closed. I have to say we were very pleased with the selection as well as the help we got from the owner Rich. He was happy to answer all of our questions and even make some suggestions based on our preferences. He helped my dad find some hats that he loved and talked plants with my wife. Rich is officially one of my favorite humans of all time. Heritage Hats is the "southwest" equivalent to finding wands in the Harry Potter world. There's every sized hat, from top name brands, stacked in this store. Brought my Dad who was visiting from Michigan to get his very first Stetson. Rich not only helped him find a size that fit his head (he's about a size 8) but sized it to his head. Rich knows his inventory well and if you're lucky, his sweet two puppies will say hi to you. It's an unassuming place. Rich, the owner and sole employee (although the dog offered us some suggestions from the back) has been there 40 years. So it's home to him and there's a level of his life there. You're not getting a fitting here. You're not having somebody wait on you. There's no pressure, no constant asking you if you need help. You wanna look at hats? There's more hats here in one place than you've ever seen, I guarantee. He's got hats. Rich knows his stuff. Now THIS is a proper hat store! I hardly ever write reviews, but I had such a great experience I had to come back and write about it. I came into the store about a week ago looking to get my dad's hat resized for his birthday (it was slightly big). Rich was super helpful, and because my dad wasn't there to be measured, Rich gave me the option of using a small insert to make it fit better in the meantime. I was expecting to spend a lot more, but was pleasantly surprised! I fell in love with another cowboy hat while I was there and I ended up getting it for my dad too. Mr. Rich, the hat fit perfect with that small adjustment, and you made the right call sizing the new one as best you could without him being there! His older hat doesn't blow off anymore and the new hat fit perfect! Told my dad about your shop and now he wants me to bring his other hats in to you for cleaning. Went to get my daughter's Stetson cleaned and reblocked, as it is one of the only local places (maybe the only?) that provides these services. I drove an hour to drop it off and then again to pick it up. Totally worth the drive to me. Been to many hat stores over the years but this one tops them all. There are so many hats to choose from in seemingly endless variety (lots of western and fedoras) and as you can imagine, the proprietor knows all about them and can make a recommendation if you need it. They are one of the few local outfits who have the knowledge and equipment to shape your hat, and they can even make one for you (Naturally it's going to cost more than an off the shelf Stetson or Resistol, but how cool is a custom hat?) Plan to spend some time here when you come. This isn't the Boot Barn and this local business is not meant to be. Western hats are entwined with Arizona's climate, history and culture. Even as open desert, dairies and ranches have given way to urban sprawl , hats are still popular and have recently experienced a resurgence in demand, so it can get busy. Like a good old monsoon flash flood, it can go from empty to full of people in the blink of an eye, so please be patient and kind if there are others ahead. Besides, it's a great opportunity to browse more hats! Oh, I almost forgot. When my daughter saw her vintage hat beautifully restored like new, she was beaming from ear to ear. That's a memory you can't put a price on. If I could give 0 stars I would. My daughter wanted to surprise me for my birthday with a new fedora so she researched hat places and found heritage hats. She called ahead of time to see what selection he had and he told her he had a huge selection. So we drove all the way from Florence to check it out. As soon as we walk in we are not greeted or helped. Finally we find the hats we were looking for and go to find the guy working there. Which we later found out was the owner. He was super rude and not helpful. Which was weird because he was friendly with other customers. He got upset at us for asking questions and said I knew you weren't gonna buy anything from the questions you were asking and told us to leave his store. Stopped into Heritage Hats located in North Phoenix on Cave Creek Road. Have passed by this business for many years. Met Rich the owner who has been at this location for over 35 years. I have never seen so many hats in one location. They have a large selection of quality hats including westerns, fedoras, panamas, caps and many others. They also do cleaning, blocking, and full restoration work. Was looking for a summer cap and there were many selections. Purchased a stetson cap but also saw my next future hat which is a panama. Could have easily spent a few hours there. They want you to pick up the hats by the brim and not the top of the hat. Not too many hat shops like Heritage Hats. Put this one on your list. read more

Drove all the way from Mesa for the hat shaping because of the reviews only to be disappointed, service was terrible not sure why because he seemed to be nice to other people maybe because we were younger or he thought we weren't going to buy anything but we planned on purchasing multiple hats. He completely ignored us, quickly shaped our hat and never offered to help us even though we clearly were standing there looking for help.
