I was in town for a bachelorette party with a group of 5 girls and one of THE things to do in Scottsdale is Rancher's Hat Bar. I made a reservation via email which was super easy to set up. The staff were so friendly, explained everything to us, and also gave us helpful styling inspiration. There were so many options of hats, trims, charms, etc. that it was such a fun time for the group. I ended up getting a 100% wool hat with a couple of add-ons. Do you want a custom rancher or cowboy hat? Ever wonder where all of those impeccably decorated hats people wear at festivals and wineries come from? Well, some of them may come from a place like Rancher Hat Bar. I'm going to break down the experience because I came in as a complete newbie and had NO idea where to start and it really wasn't clear when I went in there. (More on that later. ) Start at the big wall of hats. They have a pretty good selection of hats ranging from least expensive (at least when I was there) closer to the big window and street) to more expensive (located deeper in the store.) There are a range of colors and slight variations in style. The cheaper ones started around $65 I believe and went up to $90. The next tier started at about $120 (which is one of the ones I went with) and those two tiers were adjustable hats. As you made it to the pricier ones they got to fitted sizes. Once you have chosen the style and the color you want, you let the staff know and they will go grab a fresh hat for you from the back. Then it's time to start looking for your embellishments. Do you want a ribbon, or a charm, or feathers or flowers? Do you want a brand on the hat? You can customize in so many ways. Layering ribbons and chains and flowers, etc. Once you have gathered what you want and have a general idea of how you want it laid out, the staff will get it all tied on and tacked in. Ta-da a custom creation! It can be fun and I did get a hat. When we arrived it was a little busy maybe 2-3 other folks in front of us, and no one had appointments. We were there for a pretty long time and while we were there it calmed down quite a bit. At one point our group of 5 were the only guests in the store. I'm going to be frank, the ladies who were working there couldn't have cared less that we were there. Answering questions about the hats, the process and assisting with the tips for designing the hats was really the last thing they wanted to be doing. I get it, it's the same thing for them everyday, but the Hat Bar is special because it's an experience. It's more of a service than just retail. They just didn't give a and it showed. And as a special experience that I would recommend to others, that's where it falls short. It would have been fun to have a more guided experience. To be offered beverages like when you go into Tecovas. I would have liked to see more display hats for inspiration or maybe photos if physical hats would be too much inventory. So many ways to make it special that sadly don't happen. read more

After being turned away at another local hat bar 45 minutes before their posted closing time, we found Rancher Hat Bar--and I'm so glad we did. The service was welcoming, friendly, and genuinely helpful from the moment we walked in. They have a great selection of hats and decals to choose from, making the whole experience fun and easy. I'm so glad we stopped here during our trip through Scottsdale. The price point is fantastic for creating a custom hat and having a little fun with it. Go elsewhere! Service was nonexistent. We were not greeted whatsoever - just stared at as if they were wondering why we were in there. My sister actually had to walk up to the counter for one of the girls to give her a shallow explanation of what to do. I still considered making a purchase there even after being ignored, until a different group of girls walked in and was welcomed and even came out to the floor to help them. I've come here for previous collab events and have loved it. I won a credit to make my own hat and came in today to create one for my birthday. I was not welcomed at all. I tried to ask for help and was told a quick answer and then the employee would practically run away. I found 1 nice girl to tell me the process then asked if I had a reservation which I didn't know was required and she said they may be able to help me. I found a hat tracked down another person to get me a fresh one and then was told to go pick accessories and then abandoned again. I brought over my accessories to the counter and the girl "helped me" design something that was all her idea and wasn't listening to me at all and had absolutely no hospitality. The whole time I wanted to cry and a terrible way to start my birthday. I left before committing because I was so uncomfortable and went to my car and cried. I've previously made hats at kemo sabe and maybe it's my fault for expecting a similar experience. I came in wanting to go all out (my credit was only $150) and had a large budget to spend out of pocket on it. The team needs some customer service training. Everyone else who walked in after me was greeted and welcomed. No one should have an experience like I had. I also asked if the other store had more hat selections and they acted like I was stupid for asking and said that was ONLY their office (I've been there for events and assumed it was open to the public like this one). Items were out of stock but not labeled out of stock. at this point I would never recommend this place as a local OR to tourists (I work in the hotel industry and am always recommending places for guests to do). read more

This is a really cute idea, BUT, the cost is astronomical and unnecessary! I arrived with four people on Friday at 11:00am, one hour after they opened. Two of my guests left because the music was so loud you couldn't even talk, and the floor help was so severely lacking only one of us made a hat because we could not get help. There were four girls behind the bar building hats and one gal on the floor helping people. Which is NOT enough. Hats are overpriced which is to be expected, however, the cost for ribbon, or rope is beyond greedy! To charge $20 per item around the hat would absolutely warrant for many more employees assistance, cause you're definitely paying a HIGH price point. You don't get one on one service, you have to ask for help, ask for cost of hats, and then start building. You almost have to interrupt other guests to even get input from any employee. I wanted to build a trucker hat, but they advertise on their IG way more options than they have in store. They have a lot of bride, fishing, hunting and blue collar items. Nothing fun in the area of wine, cars or sports other than hunting. I am happy with the hat I built (though I was told the hat was $45 but charged $90). Honestly go buy one off Amazon, go to the fabric store and hot glue it yourself, I could have built mine for $40 instead of $167 ($177 with tip). Sad they are price gouging, because it could be a really amazing business. Maybe look at their competitor Turquoise Candy Custom Hats, they have a larger variety. read more

Absolutely loved my experience at Rancher Hat Bar. Taeya saw my vision & made it come to life! We made a reservation ahead of time for a group of 2, and I'm glad we did because they were BUSY! There are so many hat styles and colors to choose from, and they do a great job of walking you through all the options. Once you pick your hat, you browse all the shelves of decor, and customize your hat. I had a few different options but couldn't quite figure out how to add in the texture I wanted, but Taeya understood what I was going for and made some recommendations, and ended up braiding leather pieces together for me to make it super custom & perfect! I have to come back on here to update my previous review because several months after my experience, I was contacted by the hat bar and offered the opportunity to do a virtual appointment to make a new hat. This is unheard of. Usually on Yelp and Google, you get the same copy and paste response, so I was amazed that they even took the time to reach out to me. Kudos to them for taking action! Honestly, the virtual experience is more what I was expecting when I was here in person. I told them what I liked, and Lexie helped me put my ideas together in a way that made a unique, fun hat! This was everything I had hoped for when I originally went onsite. I am also happy they reached out because now I know that they also have a location in Dallas, which I frequent for work. Stopped in here while visiting Old Scottsdale. When we went in there was just one person working and she was helping another customer. We looked around and waited about 40 minutes before that customer was done and we were helped which is one of the reasons for the 3 stars. Once we were helped, the process moved better. There was one hat in particular we wanted but they didn't have the size (another reason for the 3 stars). They have lots of various things you can Decorate the hats with. The hat we picked was about $40 and then it goes up from there depending on how you decorate it. Lastly we did end up buying 2 hats (we wanted 3) and she just handed us the hat. When we came back later realizing we didn't get a bag she said they were out of bags. Disappointing since we were traveling on a plane and really needed a bag. read more

Brides/MOHs please note this will take 2-3 hours even with a reservation for Friday/Saturday. They take walk ins and did not prioritize reservations so it's basically first come first serve. The gals working were so so sweet. Danny was so sweet and truly incredible at what she does. Would've give 5/5 just for her but sadly the standing in line for 2 hours made it 3/5. If you're the MOH planning note that if you have other activities planned please know that it takes about 30 min per girl with the lines. This place is so cute, however it can use some changes and improvements. Top things missed here are quality, customer service & products. First- I get they have big groups coming in and out, but we were not greeted, or helped or offered complimentary drinks like the appointments were offered. There is room for 2 people at a time to do trucker hats so it took around 2 hours to do the hats. Second- the trucker hats are SO HUGE. They are so oversized my friend and I did not try them on first because that would be disrespectful and they would get makeup on them. There were a lot of patches but all the small flowers or tiny patches were wiped out so you only had the pick of the $8-10 patches, that is the cost per ONE patch. For spending over $140 for 2 hats, I would hope the quality of hat would be sufficient- you can get the brand of trucker hat for $3-5 on Amazon and they sell for $25.. Again, the concept and fun for a Bachelorette yes, so amazing! But like the other comments say; the quality and service is not there. Sadly I can't say I'll be back. read more

This place was so much fun! I came here because a local recommended it and I'm so happy I went. You can customize cowboy and trucker hats. I made a trucker hat with a bunch of patches and a Gucci ribbon. It was so cute. The girls that work there are all so beautiful, friendly, and have great eyes in helping design your hat. While we were there, there were a bunch of bachelorette parties making hats too.
