I had grown up loving LaSpada's when I was in South Florida. When I moved to Orlando, I was overjoyed to hear they had one nearby my house. I've been here a few times, and while it doesn't measure up to the restaurant I had built up in my mind, the food has always been good. That has changed recently. In the last few times, we have been fairly disappointed. Today, I had a take out order of a cheesesteak and a burger. My wife takes a bite of the burger and pulls out a hair. Then while analyzing her next bite for any new surprises, she finds a piece of plastic! This is indicative of the poor quality and care put into their food. A really great place to go get yourself a genuine Philly cheesesteak. The place is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. If you go in during the lunch hour the place is absolutely packed and you're going to wait a few minutes to get your meal. However on this trip I called ahead and picked up my sandwich at a quarter after 5 PM. As I walked in they were starting to clean up. This place is only open until 6 PM. So if you wanna Philly it better be early. If you want to dine in there are about a dozen tables that you can sit at. The staff are that sassy kind a Northern folk you'd expect from a Old School sandwich joint. This is the kind of place that's been around forever and you can tell why. Straight up, the sandwich was absolutely delicious. I ordered mine to go because I live a mile away. Quality meat and plenty of it. It looks messy but a sturdy delicious bread with a great bite holds it together. I got the 10oz Supreme because I was really hungry. Yeah more food than I could eat. This is a full dinner. Had to save some for later. They call this the Small. There's an 8" mini which I'll order next time and a 12" large for someone who can get at some food. My sandwich was wrapped in paper and delivered in a paper bag. Way to have biodegradable packaging! You've heard about it. It's time to experience what all the hype is about. LaSpadas is a hidden gem! The location seems to be closed due to the construction going on in the strip mall area, but they're open all afternoon and the interior is what you would expect out of a mom and pop restaurant, and you can see them making your sandwich whether it's cold, heated, or cooked! I didn't take a picture of my sandwich, but let me tell you, they LOAD IT WITH MEAT! So much meat that it sticks out of the bread and will most likely fall out, and no that's not a complaint! Holy cow! I have been hearing about this place for years, and finally made it for lunch today! It appears to be a hole in the wall Ma & Pops place with just a couple of locations. The curly fries were better than Arby's, and my Philly cheesecake was LOADED with meat. It had a distinct flavor that has left a craving for more on my pallet! I really, really wanted to like this place. I ordered a chicken cheese steak and fries. The sandwich was horrible. The meat was so dry I could barely swallow it. I don't think they used any seasoning because the meat also had no taste. There was little to no cheese on the sandwich either. I ended up taking most of it home so I could save it by adding gravy and my own cheese. The fries were basically good but a bit on the underdone side. On a positive note, their iced tea was AMAZING. One of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've ever had. They put enough meat on their subs to feed a small army . Unfortunately, halfway through the construction of my last meal the employee building the sandwich got into a loud, contentious argument with what the cashier later explained was "the big boss". This happened during the lunch rush and left the audience, myself included, in awe. Luckily, the big boss took it upon himself to complete this colossal indulgence. This place deserves 6 star. Went with a friend for late lunch. We both ordered subs, Cheese curds and waffle fries and we got Onion rings also. We sat outside after ordering and the owner came out three times. Once to notify us that he had made a mistake and that there were no Cheese curds so he offered Onion rings instead. Not a big deal but he apologized and was accommodating, which is nice and it's something you don't see often now a day's. He then came out a little later with the order and checked on us. He was nice and we chatted on how he expects people to tell him if something is wrong so he can address it. That's good to hear. Most of the time, the owner isn't even present at a restaurant much less taking orders and walking them out. I wish 99% of establishments had owners hands on like this. If you are looking for a great sub, this is not the place. At first we had a good impression of the place because there is the same one down in Davey, Florida. Honestly, we were better off going to subway... it's not a clean place I'm surprised the health department hasn't written them up. The bathroom was disgusting, if you gotta go to the bathroom your better off holding it. All we heard was the workers making the subs complaining, even more so everytime someone walked in. It's so sad because we were so hungry that we ate as much as we could before not even being able to handle the taste anymore the bread was also on the stale side. 4 Stars for a solid Philly cheesesteak that's no frills- just as it should be! This spot is located in a pretty sad strip mall off of Lee Rd. you would never notice it if it weren't for word of mouth or Yelp. The meet is very thin (almost looks like ground beef) and pretttttty darn flavorful. I was full after a few bites but something deep inside was stirred and I ended up almost eating the full thing (it's BIG). One note is that it's all about the meat on this sub! it comes with white American cheese, but if you're a cheese lover make sure to order extra. My fella was a little bummed that there wasn't more in there, but I thought it was the perfect amount. The grilled onions were a bit slim as well, so don't expect excessive toppings. I even tried putting mayo in it to add some taste but that made it worse. The staff was nice and the interior was... interesting. They obviously want to showcase their pride in Philly and also LaSpada's history by plastering Rocky paraphernalia and old newspaper articles everywhere but it didn't compensate for what I came for. Took a drive to this area of town to visit a huge Christmas shop. We looked up a couple of local places to hit up for food. LaSpada's was our second lunch stop. We ordered a hot dog, cheeseburger with ketchup and mayo, Philly without onions, and a Turkey and cheese sub with mayo, oil & vinegar, lettuce, tomato, and oregano. My kids gave the burger and hot dog a thumbs up. The hotdog was very long, it had to be a foot long. Neither of them could finish, so they had lunch for the next day. The cheesesteak was nice and hot. It had really great flavor. The sub was amazing. The bread was nice and firm on the inside with just the right amount of soggy-ness from the condiments. We called in a lunch order for four people from my office on Friday around 12ish and then went in to pick up the orders. Most of them were ready by the time we arrived but we still had a bit of a wait due to a small mishap on our order. I got the cheeseburger special which comes with fries and a 20 oz drink for $8.99. Got back to the office and found the burger meat to be thick and juicy but very bland. It didn't seem to have any seasonings at all. Honestly could not even taste salt on it. Whilst the food is still good from my last post, the entire restaurant is extremely dirty. There is dust on everything; air vents, lights above service counter, wall hangings...just everywhere. God only knows I have no idea how they pass health inspections. None the less, the place is always packed at lunch, and the food is quite good and made to order.
