Kappy's is a Maitland institution for a reason. Every time I stop in, it never disappoints. My go-to is the Kappy's Cheesesteak made with seasoned ground beef instead of traditional sliced steak--and honestly, I prefer it that way. Add the mushrooms... it's a must! The sandwich is messy, cheesy, flavorful, and exactly the kind of comfort food you're craving. Be prepared for a delicious, sloppy bite from start to finish. Friendly service, consistently great food, and a local favorite that's stood the test of time. If you haven't been, put Kappy's on your list. Highly recommended!
Kappas has been around for so many years it's really a nostalgic place to go. I went and got a kappas sub and it was so good I got green peppers banana peppers and mushrooms on it! Ambiance It's definitely small but it's a walk up window and a little counter on the inside with some seating and outside with seating as well! The lady at the window was very sweet and soft spoken! This place is good! I only gave it 4 stars because I wish it had more toppings for me to put on my sub but overall it was good and it's a 9/10 for me
Another place I'm not sure why I drove past all these years. A really tiny inside seating but lots outside although it was too chilly when we went. We started with fried mushrooms which were delicious! Hot dog was split and grilled and really good. I might skip the slaw next time but it was still really good. My friends got a cheesesteak and a burger both said they were yummy. Service at the counter was attentive and prompt. I'll definitely go back when I want basic comfort food.
Okay so I know Kappy's Subs has a large following in Orlando. We've been meaning to stop by for forever but never felt like dinner style sub. We visited on a weekday and it was pretty busy. Ordered the Kappy's Sub with all the toppings of mushrooms, onions, peppers and banana peppers. I didn't expect that the meat would be more ground beef than the traditional shaved meat, but my fault for not reading the menu. We ordered that sub to split, a side waffle fries, that comes with a sauce and a large drink. For whatever reason the fountain soda seemed to be off on the syrup ratio... Kinda sad bc I was looking forward to a crispy Coke. IMO I thought the sub was super greasy and it was hard to even hold with grease dripping. We ended up spending around 18 bucks for 1 combo meal, which I thought that was kinda pricey. The fries were also super small but I liked the option for sauces. Overall I wasn't impressed and don't get the hype.

Many choices, I decided on the Original cheese steak and the Kappyd Burger Both weren't fancy with B's like a brioche bun. Just good ol quality ingredients that melted together perfectly Burger was cooked well and the toppings made it great I went thinking I was going to have one sandwich and take the 2nd home Instead I devoured the first and couldn't wait and had the 2nd I was full the rest of the day. Ground meat cheesesteak? No thanks! I was underwhelmed by my "Kappy's Cheesesteak" with steak (loose term), cheese (barely any) and grilled onions (diced and cooked in with the meat). The meat was either chopped very fine or was just ground. Look at the stuff that fell out... looks like ground to me. It was "iconic" in the same way White Castle or McDonalds is iconic. I was debating between this cheesesteak and the Italian (regular) and went with the cheesesteak due to all the reviews. But it was basic and nothing spectacular. It WAS served pretty hot which was awesome. The place was old school for sure with a window to order outside, a few tables scattered around (some covered, some in the sun), and a pretty simple menu. You could also sit inside (on stools like an old diner) which I'd imagine is good on a super hot day, but have no idea if it's actually hotter INSIDE than out. I added it to my list as it closed for good and had lines around the block for one last sub. Then something happened and they reopened and the hype died down a bit. If I go back, I'm skipping the cheesesteak and trying something else. And it's a big if as I just wasn't impressed based on all the good reviews.
it's old af but it's a goodie. The food is pretty basic but it's quality and diner style. The service is amazing, they are fast and efficient and although they may have young boys working there they are some of the most polite, well thoughtful, can hold a better / decent conversation than boomers these days. I love the fact you can eat inside the cozy hole in the wall or eat outside OR use their outside window for takeout. What a great place. I enjoy the italian sausage with onions and spicy mustard. I try to go when I drop my kid off for chef class.
Went to Kappy's for the first time. Dined inside. Definitely small old school diner vibe inside. Service was a bit slow but very friendly. The subs well worth the wait. Delicious! We had the Hot pastrami and the cheesesteak with sides of fries and fried mushrooms. Everything is served hot and fresh. Absolutely no complaints. Great food especially for the price. Highly recommended trying Kappy's. 5 stars.
We are so happy that Kappy's Subs did not end up closing after all. We got to try them out this year for the first time and absolutely loved the food there, as expected. This is much more than your little hole-in-the wall sandwich shop; it is a neighborhood favorite gem that feels as though you've stepped back in time both with the cozy diner vibes and the prices are great value. People of all ages were there, seated both inside and outside. We sat at the bar and ordered KAPPV'S CHEESESTEAK ($10.75). which is their original creation made with ground chuck, grilled onions, and American cheese. It's served very hot and I had to pace myself. Originally I thought I would need to take half of it home with me, but the universe said NOPE, NOT TODAY. I devoured the entire thing and did some deep yoga breathing to cope afterwards. We're so lucky to have Kappy's in the neighborhood and hope to have them around for years to come. Go check them out and support local.
Finally made it to what's been a dubbed a Florida MUST - & I agree! I was looking for a sandwich on the way to Orlando from Daytona and this happened to line up perfectly. My initial description was, this tastes "like the 90s". That made sense to a friend, do with that what you will. Nowadays sandwiches don't tastes as fresh, they aren't dressed properly, and these came ready for the occasion in every way. I was in a rush, the pick up instructions were simple, and I only wish I had gotten more. This is a must try all over again, glad its not too far away.
Food service was amazing. I ordered the cheesesteak with the waffle fries. Amazing. The only complaint I would have is that the cheesecake could be a little bit bigger. It was kind of small for the price but overall the food the service everything was on point.
An Orlando staple for sandwiches, burgers and such. And they serve the best french fries around, never greasy and cooked just right. The staff is always friendly and willing to help make your meal just right. Old school diner feel with an outdoor patio area great for a date night!
Loved Kappy's, the food, the service and the ambience were so good. Yes, it's old school, it's nothing fancy, it's simple, but that is what makes it great. This is a landmark in Maitland and if you're from the area or out of town like us, it just gives you those good vibes, you are experiencing Americana at its finest. Please get the cheesesteak it was crazy good, good the burger, simple but delicious and the fries too while you're at it. Enjoy the milkshakes and root bear float, they take their time making them from scratch so you can tell they are quality. And if you have some time pull up a stool sit down at the counter and enjoy the conversations that come. Granted it doesn't take long for them to make the food, but sit back relax and enjoy this special place that you can tell means a lot to the community. read more

Went to Kappy's for the first time. Dined inside. Definitely small old school diner vibe inside. Service was a bit slow but very friendly. The subs well worth the wait. Delicious! It's our very first visit and we have to say we love it! We pass it all the time and just we're tempted to have a dad/daughter lunch. We tried the corn dog and Kappys cheesesteak with a large seasoned fry and sweet tea. Service was great and quick. Came out piping hot and was delicious. read more

Remember that out pour of folks coming together to save Kappy's? Well I had not had the pleasure at that time, but now, I get it. So shout out to the people coming together for keeping Kappy's open because this slapped. I was recommended The Kappy's Cheesesteak and when I heard it was prepped chopped cheese style, something I'm also not familiar with, a "no" was far from my vocabulary and it delivered on that recommendation. Nice to chat with some other patrons and the guys workin; definitely chopped it up about Philly and other steak spots worth visiting while sitting outside. Inside looked like a vibe too, so after a hard days work, imma make it inside come my next visit. 4/5 only because I wanna try more of the menu. Give me 2/2 experiences and I can't imagine anything less than that 5. read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing... but it was barely just okay. I would normally order the Reuben at any new deli style restaurant that I try but I resisted the urge given they had a sandwich bearing its own name. So against my better judgement, I stepped out on a limb and ordered the Kappy Special with American cheese, peppers, onions, mushrooms (didn't realize they'd be canned) and banana peppers, fries and a drink. It was made to order and super fresh and it didn't take very long. The guy was helpful enough when I ordered. It really was a decent overall experience but I just ordered the wrong thing. I didn't realize I'd be getting an actual ground beef Cheesesteak. So ground beef with a little salt, onion powder.. and a few toppings literally NOTHING fancy. I work nearby but I doubt I'll come back, I'm just not impressed. I also wouldn't want to waste another $17 to be disappointed. read more
Kappy's exceeded expectations! Opted for inside seating and enjoyed friendly service during a lunch rush. The interior is pretty small with counter seating only and the outside had picnic benches to sit at. The Kitchen Sink hot dog was a tasty, satisfying choice ($7). It was packed with flavor but a little messy! The Philly cheesesteak ($11), was a highlight as well - you can't go wrong! The seasoned fries were a perfect side and I would recommend a large if you are sharing. Everything on the menu looked delicious and I'll definitely be back! For many generations of Central Floridians and visitors from near and far, Kappy's Subs has been satisfying its customers with tasty hand-crafted subs and sandwiches and waffle fries. A youthful 56 years and counting, Kappy's is a certifiable OG destination. Like I did with another OG eatery in town, I've driven past Kappy's hundreds of times, and thought "I need to stop there one day." I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak, minus the bell peppers, and hoped the reviews I read and the pictures I've seen on Yelp were accurate. True to form, the cheesesteak looked exactly like the pics and tasted on point! The steak was cooked and seasoned just right; the cheese melted and folded in perfectly; the generous banana peppers on top were assembled in a nice, soft hoagie roll; and all worked together for a satisfying sub. Note to the Philly audience: No red sauce, grilled (caramelized) onions, or Cheez Whiz are options here. Ordering and payment are at the front window and pick up is on the side. Our orders were finished in a fairly normal amount of time considering subs are made to order. Plenty of parking is available and that includes the side on E Sybellia Ave. Outdoor seating at picnic-type tables is available and limited indoor, diner style stools can be had for the hardy person who doesn't mind not having AC in the Florida heat. Now that I've finally gone back in time to another Orlando OG diner, I'm looking forward to returning to try a different sub. read more

Came in on a weekday for lunch and went up the outside ordering window. Greeted and ordered promptly. The soda machine is accessible outside and you get a huge cup. The food was brought to the window quickly and we got our lunch hot and fresh. The sandwiches are phenomenal with many options to customize. The fries are fresh and hot. The corn dog was small so I see why they offer a 2 corn dog deal. Overall, this was exactly what you'd expect from a little dive spot and it's the closest thing to Cookout you can find in Orlando! read more

Kappy's is a Maitland staple that's been serving the area since the 60's. They serve hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers, and more! We tried the hot dog to go with the nostalgic aesthetic of the place! The Kitchen Sink - a foot long hot dog served on a sub roll to allow the toppings to keep from falling! Chilli, cheese, onions, slaw, kraut, and coleslaw! The most satisfying hotdog I've had in my life. Unique and filling! I also highly recommend the seasoned fries... a must try in the Maitland area! read more

Came here this Sunday at 1:30pm to try and support Kappy's and they are closed, no sign giving a reason, no nothing, just closed even though the hours of operation sign says they are supposed to be open on Sunday's 11-4. Sad business practice... read more

This review is long overdue, but when I saw the picture of my Honey Cuban in my phone my mouth started watering! That is how good it was! We had the opportunity to try Kappy's Subs food truck at a food truck event, and let me say the sandwich was the best thing we had at the event! I got the Honey Cuban and it was delicious! The staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly. I have not been to their brick and mortar location yet, but I hope to make it out there someday to see what other sandwich options they have. Highly recommend the Honey Cuban from the food truck though! read more
Traditional, old school, no frills sandwich shop right in the heart of maitland. It's one of the oldest running places in Orlando. The food is made to order and there is outdoor and indoor seating (limited). I sat outside and enjoyed my sandwich and hot dog. Service is counter and efficient. read more

Kappy's is a local gem. Would love to know the exact number but they have cranked out 1000's of burgers, cheesesteaks, milkshakes, etc over the years (ok, I was never good at math but really this is more like the numbers they do during the daily lunch rush). My family loves to stop in to pick up or eat outside on their patio (when it is Florida cool) and those milkshakes satisfied my wife's pregnancy cravings over the years. The staff is friendly and as with most places has changed over the years. The quality is good but can be hit or miss. The burger is the most consistent thing quality wise I have had. The Kappy's Cheesesteak I inhaled on my most recent visit was delicious. If you have lived in Orlando all your life or just visiting you should check this place out. read more
