I recently move here from Chicago, and I had a hell of an experience trying to find the right lash artist for me and what I was used to. I've had a few bad experiences lashing in the OC but LADIES I AM TELLIN YOU... JUST COME HERE :) Uhhh I literally am obsessed with my lashes every single time I leave the table. I've ben coming to Karine since April, and she never ever disappoints. I travel SO much, and my schedule changes last minute and sometimes I am gone longer than I expect. Shawn and Karine are so accommodating when it comes to my crazy lifestyle and thats a huge bonus for me. My lashes last up to 3 weeks in most cases, and she always makes sure to super fill them for me... especially when I am about to travel. I have never had an appointment that has left me disappointed, she makes sure to cover all of my bases and I always leave happy. Over the last few months we have become pretty good friends, but the experience has always been enjoyable. The salon is quite and peaceful, she informs you about your lashes so they can last longer and be healthy, but most of all she is truly talented at what she does. She's also pretty fast! I recommend her to everyone who asks me about my lashes, and she always keeps me feeling fluffy and fresh. Shawn her husband schedules the appointments and he is such a sweet guy... he might even pop in to say hello while you're getting lashed! He effectively communicates your thoughts and questions so that upon arrival you are all on the same page. Very clean. Organized. Just an overall great experience! I found Karine to be greedy and unhelpful. I didn't have cash for our appt for the following day as my bank card was lost. I asked if she would take a credit card or check but she said "no". As if I hadn't given her enough money in tips, oil, and 2 sets of lashes. I never blinked an eye or asked any questions. So why am I always speaking to her husband as her personal secy, I can't answer that, but all I know is she's taking cash, hiding it, not paying taxes and distrusting others bc she cannot be trusted. That has been my experience with Carine. She knows she's not supposed to be applying eyelashes at this time, but her greed has gotten the best of her. Good luck Carine. I went to Karine after reading reviews on yelp, and it seemed she'd be good. She was very nice, and everything was painless. My eyelashes looked nice, (uneven, one side had more than the other) but looked ok. But unfortunately, they started falling out fast and they were glued with thicker glue than I've had before... This was my 3rd time getting eyelash extensions and before whenever an eyelash would fall out, it would be one eyelash extension with one of my eyelashes attached. I found Karinne through Groupon. I had previously gotten extensions done somewhere else and was coming for a fill. I emailed Shawn and asked if coming for a fill from another salon was okay, and I was told yes. Shawn was really friendly and accommodating with scheduling me in at her Lake Forest location. When I arrived Karinne was finishing up another customer so I waited a little but did not mind at all. Once she got started on my lashes she told me the difference between the cheapy lashes I had on and the ones she used. I was really grateful to understand the difference. BUT. I'm surprised by all these positive reviews above her kindness and niceness. She was a little condescending with me. I'm not a sensitive person, I went to law schooli and had to deal with grade A douches all the time. I'm not sure if she's use to a certain type of clientele since she works in Dana Point, or was expecting me to be a certain way. But she made remarks like "some people are particular about where they get their eyelashes done, you CLEARLY are not (laughs)" When is a comment like that ever appropriate to make to a first time customer, who's already paid for a service and bringing you new business? I tried to let that go, and told her I was new to eyelash extensions and that now I know better. And she replied with "well you could have checked google, yelp...looked at pictures..." Again, I told her that I thought I had done my research and the other salon looked fine but how would I know?! Geez.... Trying to move on, i told her I was in the middle of moving from one side of Irvine to the other and she was like "I don't know how people justify paying so much rent in Irvine - and it's not even a beachfront property. I live in Dana Point..." Uhhh okay... There were a couple other minor remarks that were no bigs but just didn't sit well. The fact of the matter is that, I didn't feel comfortable. So while I deeply appreciated her teaching me the difference between eyelash application, and will likely not return to the other salon where I first went - I don't think I will return to her either. My appointment was 8:30am, I waited maybe 15 mins before being seen and Shawn called her asking if she can be at her Dana Point location by 10:30. She said she wasn't sure because traffic and how long I would take. I was in my car by 9:30 (less than an hour), calling my boyfriend (yes, I checked) to discuss my interesting experience! It's been two days. And my new (admittedly) nicer eyelashes are falling off without me doing anything! And I've noticed that the eyelashes are falling off 3 at a time (as if 3 were glued together on one lash) and when I've inspected the 3 fallen lashes they aren't attached to one of my natural lashes so it's not because "they're naturally falling off" So, this experience left much to be desired. While I think they look great and admittedly MUCH better than the first salon I went to, these are falling off in a rapid pace and I anticipate them lasting a week, or week and a half. Im pretty loyal, and once I find a place I like, it's the only place I go. So yes maybe I found her through Groupon but how else can you explore what you like and don't? I told her what I was looking for, and she gave me a very classy yet natural look. I have hooded eyes, but she does a nice job with her technique, which flatters my eye and opens them up. She is very swift with her application, and it always comes out looking great! When I first got home from my initial appointment, my boyfriend didn't even notice I had gotten them done until I told him- which was a good sign! He's pretty observant and doesn't like the Junebug look either lol. So he gave the approval, and I have been given several compliments by others as well. I like my lashes and service except the fact that my left lashes didn't look like my right eye lashes. There was less curvature compared to the right and some are even under my original lashes making them not be in line with all others(pointing in picture). It annoys me everyday. There was a client that came in in the middle of my appointment saying she had an appt so I believe that my left eye lashes were rushed and that's why they didn't end up the same as my right eye. Very, very sad to be posting this because I did have a GREAT experience yesterday at Lash Up. Karrine is really an amazing girl!!! So funny and outgoing. I came in with an appointment after I had cancelled on my normal place because it's kind of far from where I am staying now. I was very worried because we were doing a fill on top of lashes from my other place. She was able to provide the eyelashes and look I wanted; that's why there is only one star off. They look awesome but there are small clumps of glue on tips of eyelashes, making it hard to brush through, and also clumps of glue at base of lashes. There also seems to be four different areas on each eye where there are multiple eyelash clusters. My eyelids hurt SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad. Literally each individual eyelash is being pulled on by the glue or by the the lashes not being put on an individual lash. There are also a couple eyelashes glued right on my eyelid on each eye, which I can super feel. My eyeballs are sensitive so it kept me up ALL NIGHT. I had to take four melatonins to be able to kind of ignore mg eyelids itching and burning all night. This morning they're just so much worse. I'm disappointed because I'm now having to go all the way to Long Beach and pay to get these lashes taken off as well as a whole new full set. Hopefully there's even availability today at my lash place because I am in pain. I did get my eyebrows tinted aswell. I've had a great experience with that. The room was nice, the lady massaged my head through the process, and they came out great. Very cheap aswell. I will probably continue coming to Lash Up for my eyebrows but definitely not my eyelashes. read more
