Found out later that it was formerly Watami. I recognized the window view from the inside. Arrived a few minutes before our reservation, and we were seated right away at a cozy corner. The place had several tables occupied, and it looks like we got there at the right time. Drink and appetizer orders were taken, and we had a little time to look through the menu. A bottle of wine and a couple of cocktails came out and entree orders were taken promptly. I had looked it up ahead of time, and had my sights set on the Paella Valencia. We also got the Grilled Octopus (perfectly grilled and seasoned), empanadas which were smaller than I expected, but delicious (Might have been too much if they were bigger). we also had the seafood-stuffed jalapenos, and calamari for appetizers, and others in our party got the lamb chops, stuffed sole, and salmon for their mains. I finished my entire pot of paella, it was fantastic. I always like when the chef comes around to see firsthand how the guests are enjoying their meals, and Chef Nunez did just that. I think we'll bring other people here next time, there were many other items that caught my eye that reminded me of our time in Spain.

Turns out there was a Christmas party happening in the back, must have been quite the rager. We were referred here by some locals that seemed to know most of the wait staff so that seemed promising. The drinks were average the food was SUPERB. We were a fairly large group (maybe), there were 8 of us. The food presentation was that of a high end restaurant, and it was definitely not my typical menu so that was a nice change of pace. Don't expect a Chilis menu or some other basic chain menu. One downfall, one of the dinners came out about twenty minutes after everyone else's. The manager took care of it which was the decent thing to do, maybe it was mixed into the party room, idk. Overall a great experience.

We are very blessed . . …read more That our area of Southeastern Connecticut has such a large Puerto Rican population - - or we may have never tasted the wonderful food that this restaurant offers. One of the best, if not THE VERY BEST, restaurants in the local area. My only concerns: 1) I didn't see a bathroom, but I didn't need one ‍; 2) we could have used a knife for the pork stick, but we should have asked. The staff is extremely helpful. Wonderful designs, with lots of inspiration. Now for the food: - Chicken Steam Plate: Chicken leg, rice & beans, fried plantain pieces. Chicken super moist, rice was outstanding, & plantains were very tasty. - Beef Stew: very good, similar to Filipino Beef Mechado. - Pork Stick: great tasting pork - - for me, I would have liked a bit more "fatty" on my stick, but it was really meaty!!! - Beans were nicely done. - Smashed Plantains were served with 1000 Island dressing: probably just as good without the dressing. - Ground Beef Empanada: good, a bit of vegetables would have put it over the top (potatoes, onions, carrots, peas) - - but that's there style. - Chicken Empanada: ok, a bit salty for us. Enjoy!!!!!

The only thing is that this spot is a bit pricer than other Hispanic restaurants. Therefore I don't make it in often. But when I do come, I'm never disappointed.

We were waited upon shortly after being seated. The dining room is spacious, nicely lit, and the seating at tables is comfortable. We decided to go with all tapas to share. We started with a nicely dressed house salad. Then we ordered and shared grilled shrimp a la plancha, empanadas, chorizo, and lamb-beef-pork skewers. All were nicely plated and delicious. We each ordered a Spanish rose which was a perfect accompaniment to the tapas. We celebrated my wife's birthday with a scrumptious order of chocolate lava cake served with a scoop of ice cream. Service was friendly and professional. Sadly, however, the dining room was noticeably not busy. We wondered why- could it have been that people were worried about the upcoming blizzard and just decided to stay home? What a shame. This is a really fine restaurant. If in the mood for Spanish-influenced cooking, then you really must give Bistro Mediterranean Grill and Tapas Bar a try.

We arrived around 4:15 to catch the Happy Hour. When we arrived, we noticed the slight musty smell…read moreright at the entryway...not a good impression. We asked the bartender if we could enjoy the Happy Hour at one of the tables, he said, No. Only at the bar. Something that was not spelled out on the menu nor the website. We sat at the bar. The menu listed the house gin at $5. I asked which Gin did they use as House Gin. The bartender said, I can give you Tanqueray but the price is not $5 like the menu says, it's $7. He said that menu was from Milford, not Westbrook. Weird...so I get a glass of wine, which did ring at $6 like the menu said. We ordered a few "tapas". Out of the four that we tried, the best one was the turnover (empanada), then the meatballs (tiny meatballs), then the fried calamari (which tasted and looked out of a frozen wholesale fried calamari bag) and last the pork medallion (not tasty at all). When the bill came, two of the tapas had the wrong price (higher than what the menu said)....I had to ask the bartender to rectify, which he did.....Poor people the ones that do not check their bills....they can easily be overcharged here....Big time..... Not recommended....not coming back.
