Today I had to have their Michelada! It's the best in Cypress! This is my appetizer! You have to try it!!

Super friendly staff. Very cozy local casual vibe. Food was delicious - we got street tacos and quesadillas. Only complaint was we felt the quesadillas were a little small for the price but they were BOMB. We also got the spicy jalapeno-Rita, a regular Rita, and the mezcal Rita. All were absolutely delicious. And strong. Service was quick and on top of things. Will most DEFINITELY be back!! Go check them out.

UPDATE 2nd visit Let me just say they should be so glad that they have Rosey. It it hasn't been for her we would have walked out only paying for the minimum. She saved the day no questions asked. She was not happy with the kitchen and took samples of what we were served to the kitchen. She followed up, checked on us and was very much a hands on manager. She was all over the floor doing what needed to be done. Rosey you are a hard worker and it was noticed last night. The small plates were slid across the table at us when we first were seated by a young man who clearly had no interest in being there. The people beside us commented. "Yes I saw that too". These young men need to understand they are representing this business while they were at work. We enjoyed the food when it was corrected by Rosey.

Friend of mine said he heard about this place and saw a lot of posts on other social media so he convinced me to go and try it. Location is nothing special just a small strip center within the entrance to the neighborhood. Plenty of parking. Walked inside and again nothing special, looks a little dated and typical design and decor of any other average Mexican restaurant. Plenty of tables and tvs on the wall. We were greeted upon walking in and seated quickly. Waitstaff was friendly and our drink order was taken right away. Our order was taken and we had our food in approx 10 mins. Everything arrived and looked good. I ordered the Pollo Azteca another ordered Chilaquiles con pollo and another ordered a shrimp cocktail. All the food was hot/fresh and tasted good. No complaints with the food and the waitstaff was friendly and did a good job checking in on us. Overall prices are fair, not a bad place and I'd return.

Yum in the yum! Stopped for a lunch on the run and was super pleased with the choice! Got the queso to start us off and it was pretty darned tasty. The chips that came with the queso were like fried flour tortillas quarters but it worked. The chips and salsa were yummy too! The salsa was hot-temperature wise not super Spivey but still a good flavor. I ordered the Fajitas Mexicano and they rocked! Meat was so tender and tasty and loved the grilled jalapeños and tomatoes on top. Tortillas were on point too! My friend got the chicken fajitas and they were awesome as well. The woman who served us was awesome. Super friendly and kept the drinks, chips and salsa coming. Highly recommend this place!

We stopped by on Cinco de Mayo because we're basic, and we left full and happy! Our waitress was extremely nice and welcoming. The chips and salsa came to the table quickly, the green salsa is cold and is very mild in flavor. The red salsa has a kick and is served warm. They were both delicious, and we practically finished them both. I ordered a frozen mango/strawberry margarita. It was adorned with fruit and tajin. The flavor was great, although I didn't taste much alcohol nor did I get a buzz. I ordered the chicken fajitas because again I'm basic. They actually brought out beef fajitas first and quickly corrected their error with no issue. It was a massive portion of chicken plus the toppings, 3 tortillas, and rice and beans. I couldn't finish it all, I do wish it would have had more flavor? It seemed as if it didn't have any seasonings. My husband ordered the Katy combo. It was a cheese enchilada, beef fajita, and a crunchy taco (not pcitured). The enchilada was the standard enchilada at any tex mex place, the beef fajita had good flavor, and the crunchy taco was surprisingly delicious. Bonus points given as they had a changing table in the men's bathroom! I would totally go back here!

My last review here was 6 years ago and was an almost subpar experience. About a year ago, I returned and had a much better experience and then returned this weekend for lunch and decided it's time for an update. This restaurant seems to have expanded or remodeled since that first visit. It's also much more lively inside with many people eating here. I can see why. Ordering from their lunch menu, I asked for the chicken fajitas with charro beans and homemade flour tortillas for $9.99 which is $3 less than their dinner prices which includes more meat. The chips and red salsa arrived immediately. I liked both. The chips are medium thick and the salsa had a nice flavor that kept me going back for more. In less than 5 minutes my sizzling platter arrived. It kept sizzling for a while so I dug into the charro beans. With a lot of content of other veggies and a little meat the beans were very good. For a lunch portion, I thought the amount of meat given was generous. The homemade 3 large and heavy flour tortillas were also very good and with the chicken, sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo made for a very tasty meal. Easily a 4 but I had one complaint. The amount of sour cream, guac and pico given was disappointingly small. If I ordered this again, I'll ask for more next time. My table service started very well but faded at the end. No drink refills or replenishment of the salsa bowl. However, I will upgrade my score here to a 4 and will return when I am in the area. This maybe the best Tex Mex in the Fairfield/extreme Northwest part of town.

Tried the Mexicana fajitas, charro beans and an enchilada verde. Fajitas were chicken and beef. Both meats were rubber. Asked for medium rare and got well done. Sour cream and guacamole was placed on a tortilla on the hot plate. Had heated up sour cream in no time. Overall would not recommend for the food quality. Service was excellent and attentive. Atmosphere was dark, all the blinds were closed with no sunlight coming through. Music seemed to be a variety of Spanish and English songs but this could be more streamlined to a more upbeat key rather than the dying titanic orchestra songs.

    Fajitas!

Given all the shortcuts that so many restaurants take, this place deserves a "5" just for the fact that they do make everything themselves. And our meal was really excellent as well and a very fair price. We started with a Cheese quesadilla and our special request to have onions in there as well. It was good. For brunch we ordered the $12 Concha French Toast because Mr. Picky has a sweet tooth. That is Concha bread soaked in vanilla bean custard, topped with caramel, toasted coconut, cinnamon, whipped cream and berries. Mr. Picky didn't even need the side syrup. I like savory items and I so ordered the El Valle which was also $12. Two cheese enchiladas which I topped with sunny side up eggs, served with white rice and refried black beans. I added seasoned ground beef into the enchiladas and that was an extra $2. I requested white cheese enchiladas, don't know if that was standard or not. I am not a huge bean lover, but I have to tell you that the refried black beans on that plate were delicious. Very filling dish, tasted really good and it was a great value. Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday from 9am-3pm. I think this is the best breakfast/brunch I've had in the past two years. Generous amount of food and I couldn't finish it all. They have a bakery section and we walked over to look and see what we wanted to have for dessert. We couldn't decide between the interesting-looking carrot cake, the praline cheesecake or flan on top of chocolate cake. So we ordered and shared all three! LOL. Our favorites were the carrot cake and the praline cheesecake. I think this is the best breakfast/brunch we've had in the past two years. Generous amount of food and I couldn't finish it all. Five stars for making everything themselves, waiter Eduardo was very helpful, and we're definitely coming back soon!!!

"My Homework Turned Into Date Night (with Myself)" 02-14-26…read more I came here on Valentine's Day to do a writing assignment my professor gave us, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food all the same. When I walked in, the hostess offered to seat me in the private party area. I declined and told her, "I'm here for a writing assignment," and asked if I could sit somewhere with a clear view of the bar. She didn't hesitate. She told me to follow her and led me to a booth with a clean, perfect shot of the bar, front row without having to climb onto a stool. She handed me a menu and told me to enjoy my evening. The bar itself was shaped like an oblong oval ring with gold seats lined up like little lifeboats, almost like a ship's bridge. Above it, about ten flat screens hovered in an oval formation, suspended in the air. Upside-down margarita glasses and champagne flutes hung overhead like delicate chandeliers in an expensive mansion. The bar area was filled with couples and solo diners enjoying the screens, sipping margaritas and champagne, and crunching on complimentary chips and salsa. Customer service was fantastic. My server, Ale, was highly energetic, lively, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I felt very well taken care of during this dining experience, which was supposed to just be a writing assignment, but it turned into a rewarding little night out. The complimentary chips and salsa were also pretty good. The atmosphere was vibrating at a high-energy level. There was loud laughter and conversation all around, the sound of dishes clanging in the kitchen, servers moving back and forth, and bussers scanning the room for abandoned tables to clean. For my appetizer, I ordered the shrimp crab cake along with a Cucumber Melon Margarita on the rocks. Both were absolutely delicious. The crab cake was mouthwatering and delectable, and that margarita was refreshingly fruity and strong, so good I ordered a second one. For my entrée, I ordered the beef fajita plate for one with cilantro rice, charro beans, and corn tortillas. I also added a side of the La Viva Shrimp (bacon-wrapped). I don't eat pork often, so I peeled the bacon off, and even without it, the shrimp was exceptionally tantalizing, full of bold seafood flavor. My entire plate was the bee's knees. I can't even explain how good the food was. Food Ratings Shrimp Crab Cake: 5/5 La Viva Shrimp: 5/5 Beef Fajitas: 5/5 Cilantro Rice: 5/5 Charro Beans: 5/5 Overall, La Viva Cantina is an upbeat, lively spot serving delicious comida with great customer service and an inviting atmosphere. The food was good, flavorful, and satisfying, but I would not say it stood out as amazing or the best Mexican food I have had. I would compare it to the Chili's of Mexican food. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel welcoming. That level of service is honestly the main reason I would come back. Price wise, it felt a little high for what you get. I cannot say it was much better than something like Chipotle, even though it was about double the price. That said, the environment makes a difference. The restaurant has a fun, lively vibe, and it looks like they have great drinks and margaritas, even though I did not try any this time. Overall, I would recommend coming here for the atmosphere and excellent service. The food is solid and dependable, just not top tier Mexican cuisine.
