Pork rinds
Katie B.

Fresh tortillas so hot you can't hold onto them! Chicken adobo is fall off the bone tender and moist. Cooked perfectly. Biggest pork rinds I've ever seen! Cool little Mexican grocer.

Barbacoa! (Hint one pound in English - una libra in Spanish)

From the minute I opened the door and stepped through Las Lupitas' threshold, I was transported back to Mexico. From the jostle of the crowd at the meat counter to the squeak, squeak, squeak of the tortilla press, Las Lupitas is a little piece of Latin America in Charlotte. I read up on what to expect (thanks, Yelpers!) before going, and walked in with my order ready. I suggest you do the same as the experience can be a little overwhelming with tortilla orders placed in the back, meat orders along the side, and salsas, cilantro/onion, avocados, limes, etc. all in the front. As others have mentioned, Spanish is absolutely the primary language spoken in the store. Go armed with a few vocabulary words and a sense of humor, and you'll be just fine! We headed to the back to collect our tortillas first. I started drooling when she handed me a piping hot packet of tortillas -- 1 lb. (una libra in Spanish, FYI) for $1.26. From there, an English speaking employee took pity on us and fetched our 1 lb. of barbecue (barbacoa) and 1 lb. of chicken (pollo). With the meat and tortillas in our basket, we headed to the cash register at the front where we collected cups of salsas... They had 3 types on our visit -- a mild green, a hot orange, and a smoky/hot red -- each one was AMAZING!! That entire haul cost us just under $25 and has already fed us for 3-meals. We probably have enough left over for one more lunch tomorrow. I envision A LOT of visits to Las Lupitas in our future!

Went back again this past weekend for two lbs of tortillas and some salsas and fresh cilantro and onion to go with. Quality and service are still top notch. It's also still helpful to have at least one person with you who speaks conversational Spanish, although not completely necessary.

Thank you to all the previous reviews that explained how to use this place! It's sooooo delicious! We got carnitas, cheese, fresh tortillas, AND... homemade pico (with jalapeños) and guacamole. I was SUPER impressed with the guacamole- chock full of chunky avocado and very flavorful, much better than most places around town! Try it! So worth it. Great prices and friendly people. We had so much meat left over we used it for breakfast tacos the next day with eggs Thank you Lupitas, we will be back.

Best tacos I have ever had north of the border. Language barrier was a bit of a problem but so worth it. Other reviewers were spot on... go in and head to the back to get a kilo of fresh tortillas. Then order your meat from the meat counter. Grab your salsa back at the front when you pay. Tortillas: as fresh as you can get... still warm. Barbacoa: Delicious! Super moist and extremely tender... like the most soft and tender roast beef you have ever had. Carnitas: Awesome!! Moist and tender pulled pork. Salsa verde: Simple and fresh green salsa that's not too spicey. We ate in our car in the parking lot... it was epic!

Las Lupitas follows the 3 "B"s that we always look for in Spanish: Bueno, Bonito, y Barato. Translation: "Good, Pretty (In this case appealing to the eye), and cheap!" These are some of the best tacos you'll have in Charlotte, but all food is to go. Order 1 lb. of meat, either the Carnitas or Barbacoa, 1 lb. of Fresh Cheese, and 1 lb. of tortillas. The tortillas are practically free, $1/lb, and you can see the ladies making them from scratch in the back. When I went they had 3 sauces for sale at the register and I bought the 2 spiciest ones, the spiciest one was way to spicy for my taste and I love spice. This is a great spot to hit up before a picnic or before having people over for "make your own taco" night. Best deal in town! I am not sure if they speak English or not, but since everything is out for you to see it would be very easy to order by pointing, please do not be intimidated, everyone who works there is SUPER nice. If you need a translator, I translate for tacos!

Carnitas tacos! P/U the stuff and have them at home while you are watching the Panthers on ya big screen! Crazy good!

This place is FANTASTIC! We hardly go out for Mexican food anymore, since we started buying carnita meat here! Just go to the meat counter, and tell them you would like some Carnitas. We usually get a pound or 1 1/2 if we want leftovers. The meat is fantastic, juicy and doesn't have skin or bones, which I have run into in the past at other places. We also get queso fresco, a pound of freshly made/still warm torillas, and at the register ask for pico di gallo, an avocado (they are always ripe), and a bag of chopped onion and cilantro. They also have sauces here, but I haven't tried them yet. The prices are fantastic, come home and make some tacos! The place is very clean, no weird smell, the staff is very sweet and helpful. It doesn't get any better than this!

The employees could not be nicer. And the tortillas could not be less expensive. Excellent fresh salsas for $3 (cash only).

Thank you Yelp..because I would probably have never ventured out to visit Las Lupitas if not for the ridiculously high ratings, and I'm glad I did because everything was awesome! They have a display case with a number of raw meats including chorizo fresco, fajita steak, different hams, pork belly and other pork cuts, chicken thighs, and even blood pudding. The end of the display case has a number of Mexican cheeses (oaxica, queso fresco, chihuahua were among some I saw). All of the meats and cheeses seemed to be between $5-8 per pound except the thin fajita steak was $10/lb. They also have cooked carnitas and barbacoa, and I order a pound of each ($7 for carnitas, $8.50 for barbacoa) The barbacoa was well-seasoned with a good hint of chile and other spices and was pretty tender. The carnitas weren't seasoned as heavily but they were SOO tender. Aside from making tacos, I actually used leftover carnitas for BBQ sandwiches the next day which were also incredible! They also sell tortillas that are literally warm off the tortilla press when you get them for just $1/lb. They had different salsas to choose from as well- salsa verde, one with arbol chiles, pico de gallo, an habanero salsa, and plain red salsa. Each was $2 and they are cash only because the salsas do not have barcodes apparently. I just got the salsa verde, but I wish I had tried more because the salsa verde was incredible! They also sell avocados, Mexican sodas, and beer that I noticed. The service was friendly, everything I got was incredible, and the prices were really cheap for the amount of delicious food you can get.

I've had this place bookmarked to visit while down in Charlotte. I was super stoked that they offered tacos to go, with everything packaged on the side so I could take it home for dinner. I really wanted to like this place but it just didn't do anything for me. Again, the I liked the fact that I could pick whatever salsa and cheese I wanted, as well as the baggies and cilantro. We got a pound of the barbacoa, a pound of the mixed pork, some queso fresco and fresh tortillas. I made a huge mistake in letting them tell me the mixed pork was fantastic. What I didn't realize until I got home was that "mixed" included tongue, complete with the hair and everything... Yuck... That went straight in the trash! The barbacoa was mediocre but the tortillas and salsa were great. I actually fried them up and just made tostadas with them and the salsa.

My friend and I both went with the margarita cocktail with a sugar rim and it did not disappoint. For food, I ordered the beef empanadas (three count) and they were juicy and satisfying. The dipping sauce was simple but it worked. My friend got the pollo ranchero and loved it -- we both left with leftovers, which says a lot. Oh, and the bathrooms were clean with multiple stalls. Always a win. Solid spot for a post-event wind down. Would definitely return.

I ordered the carne asada and was genuinely excited, but it was a letdown from the start. They never asked how I wanted the steak cooked, which is a huge mistake. Then they covered the steak in cheese--why? That completely overpowered everything. I couldn't even taste the chimichurri. A suggestion: grill the steak properly and serve it simply. If you need cast iron, use a skillet--not a cast iron bowl. Don't drown it in cheese, and please don't cut my steak for me. I'm a grown adult and can handle that myself. On the positive side, the service was on point--our waitress was amazing. The inside was clean and had a kind‑of Mexican vibe going on.

I went inside to get a manager to let them know that we hadn't been greeted. Another server came saying we weren't in his section but he'd take us. The manager brought us out some queso and chips as an I'm sorry. I specifically asked the server, Ohran, what tacos were included in the 2.50 street tacos listed on their board as their Tuesday special and was told all of them. I then asked him again "so all the tacos are considered street tacos" and he said yes. So, imagine my surprise when we received the receipts and were charged full price. The manager came over and basically said there was nothing that he was able to do because there were no specials being ran on cinco de mayo & his employee said that he did not say that. Of course he's gonna say that. He doesn't wanna take the fall. I worked at Maggiano's and Red Lobster for about 10 years total so I know how the serving life is but the fact that I had to go flag down someone to get service, we asked twice for waters and didn't receive them until the third ask, we didn't get napkins until after our food was out and we had to ASK for them and then we get told the wrong price???? Yeah I'll never be back and that sucks because the tacos were so good thanks to the Honduran chef who smokes a lot of weed (that's what our server told us. Very professional of him right?????).

We arrived around 130p and sat downstairs even though it was nice out and there's an upstairs bar, they said it was not available... They were advertising $1 mimosas for the holidays which is a steal, but to be honest, it was very OJ heavy which I guess is what you would expect. They are normally $3 so still a great price. There is a dedicated parking lot and street spots as well. It's a bright and colorful space with vibrant decor. We ordered an assortment of breakfast and birria tacos. I enjoyed my tacos especially being able to order à la carte, but the service was a bit slow even though it wasn't too busy or crowded. I would give it another chance for lunch or dinner. Or a taco Tuesday! They have daily specials so I think it's worth another shot. @azfitfoodfun

Fajitas, tacos, and flautas have all been great. The trio is pretty good. Not the best guac or queso I've had, but certainly does the job. They also have good specials - $6 jumbo marg on Fridays. Definitely a spot I will continue to come back!

I fell in love with Superica when I first moved to Charlotte nearly three years ago, and it quickly…read morebecame one of my go-to spots for reliable, flavorful Tex-Mex. But I have to start with a small heartbreak: my beloved puffy taco is gone. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where the puffy taco was created, and it's deeply nostalgic for me. It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Bottom line: Even without the puffy taco, Superica remains one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte. Come hungry, bring friends, share plates--and as always, travel safe and eat well.

If you're looking for a spot with a high-energy vibe and a killer aesthetic, Superica in South End…read moredefinitely delivers. I visited with a friend on Cinco de Mayo, so as you can imagine, the scene was absolutely chaotic. The wait was a staggering hour and a half, but Superica handles crowds like a pro. They have an outdoor bar and a grill setup serving: * A limited taco menu * Chips and Queso This was a total game-changer. It's a genius move that keeps the "hangry" at bay while you soak up the South End atmosphere. Once we finally scored two seats at the bar, the service remained impressively steady despite the holiday madness. * The Vibe: 10/10. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely fits the trendy Charlotte mold. * The Food: To be honest, I wasn't blown away. Given the hype and the stunning decor, my expectations were sky-high. The flavors were "decent" and felt like a solid performance, but they didn't quite hit that "must-return" level of deliciousness. * Portion Sizes: Huge! I couldn't finish my meal in one sitting. Here's the interesting part: The food actually tasted better the next day. It traveled well and the flavors seemed to settle in overnight. If you can't finish your plate, definitely take it home. Is it worth the South End gas and the hour-plus wait? For me, I'll probably stick to my "old faithful" spot up in the University area for my routine taco fix. However, I'm willing to give Superica the benefit of the doubt. It's hard for any kitchen to be at its absolute peak on Cinco de Mayo. If I find myself back in the neighborhood on a quieter Tuesday, I'd give it another shot just to see if the food can live up to that gorgeous interior.
