a taco truck parked on the side of the road
    Mandy G.

Amazingly good taco truck!! Got some crane asada steak tacos with onions and cilantro with verde sauce and they were on point! Fresh good ingredients simple and affordable. Better than what I normally would get an any restaurant at a better price. Great to grab on your way into the airport and better than what you'll find in there. Everything you could ever want and need out of a taco truck!

GREAT food, legit fresh flavor. Funky hole-in-the-wall locale. Pretty much ToGo type of place. Likely the host restaurant for the mobile Taco Hut that is parked out front. Hard to find / easy to miss, unless you know what you're looking for. The new OPEN sign caught my mind, so I said "what the heck?" Limited menu, but it's all prepared freshly. English is clearly a second language, but have some fun and roll with it. Prices could be a little lower, especially given the Spartan conditions; but, I'd go back. Given the dearth of decent restaurants on Wilkinson, truly stands out. Parking doesn't seem to be a problem.

I continue my quest to find the perfect tacos and will most likely keep trying them until I find the mother lode. I've been in Charlotte for 10 months and coming from the Washington, DC area which has just about every ethnic group and food from all over the world, it's been quite an adjustment. But I digress. We found this place while driving to Restaurant Depot and I literally gasped to the point of scaring everyone in the car when I saw it. I was excited! Tacos! After leaving the Depot we headed over to grab some food and upon arrival a woman at the door waved us in to let us know that they were open. Now this may be because, according to the yelp app, it said it was closed, the menu just says open at 10am but doesn't give a closing time for any day of the week. Not sure why, but my guess is they open and close at their convenience so make sure you call first before you go. The menu: They have tacos, empanadas, menudo, tortas, burritos, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, quesadillas, Huaraches, Migadas, Sopes, Taquitos Dorados, Taco Salad, Tacos Gringos, Philly Cheesesteak, chicken wings, nachos, rice, beans, salad, chips and guacamole, Elotes, Preparados, Salmon, Fajitas, Carne Asada, and natural drinks like Tamarindo, Horchata, Jamaica juice, mango, watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple. We ordered 4 tongue tacos, 2 steak tacos, a steak torta and got a sample of horchata. The tacos meats available are steak, pork, sausage, chicken, tongue, cheek, head/cabeza, pork skin and campechanos. They were out of several of the meats that I wanted to try. We were the only customers in there but soon after one other person came in and then a group that had ordered 30 minutes prior to showing up and were told that they had to wait another 20 minutes for their order of Migadas, and burritos. I must see that they were very gracious and took it well. The wait; We probably waited almost 30 minutes for our order and I must say that that has never happened before. You go to a taco stand and you are in and out in no time, believe me, I know! Now, I'm not sure that this is the standard but it really seems like they had just opened or something out of the ordinary happened just before we got there. unless a place is just absolutely horrendous, I will give it a second try. The food: I know, I know, "Finally she gets to the food," you say! It all went down in the car because this is not an eat in joint. Opened the boxes, snapped photos for yelp, noticed there was no radish on the side, squeezed lime on tacos, pour hot sauce/salsa on taco, looked at pile of grilled onions, (strange new thing for me, but okay), picked up taco and took a bite! Lots of cilantro flavor, meat is very tender but needs a bit more seasoning, raw onions, fresh and crunchy and hot sauce has a nice heat to it. Honestly, I think I would have liked it a lot less if it didn't have the hot sauce, I quickly envisioned a salt shaker in my mind. True story! Most taco stands double up on the tortillas but they only give you one. With the amount of filling, which is very generous, it could use the extra tortilla for support but I'm not complaining. The French fries appear to be fresh cut and were good and nicely salted but they were lukewarm! After the wait, they should have been piping hot. The torta was not on a traditional bolillos bread but on a sub roll. The steak in the torta was a bit salty, I couldn't taste or really see the avocado and it was just okay in my opinion but my husband says, "It was good!" Overall, the place could use a good scrub down, the freezer that held the the frozen bananas, mangonadas and ice cream needs to be cleaned. The floor could use a good scrub down but the food prep area behind the counter looked clean. I will most likely go back and try some other choices but until then my search for the perfect taco, continues.

Tacos al pastor, asada and campechano

The great taco search continues... Food truck addition. Stopped in to see Don Sammy at his taco truck on the corner of Little Rock and Wilkerson. It's in the airport express gas station. It take a little bit to cook because the food is made to order. The tortillas are made by hand and very good. I ordered a mix plate of tacos al pastor, asada and campechano. Though very good, they were not great. The price is equal to other trucks, at $2 per taco and I would recommend stopping by to support a small business

Wow! I got two chicken tacos and they were pretty awesome. Highly recommend this place! I think the homemade tortillas is my favorite part of it.

    Holy grail of tacos..

Holy Tijuana Mexican Street tacos . I had the tongue, liver, cabeza and el pastor. It was amazing. The perfect amount of salt to meat to tortilla(looks Homemade) ratio. Paired well with the side of grilled onions and cactus (?)..was just plain amazing. All I was missing was the hangover. Más please...I'll be hitting this place every time I'm in charlotte. Make sure you call ahead, and get the correct address..

THE BEST TACOS IN CHARLOTTE!!! Hands down! This was only $5.00 ... $2.50 a piece

Don't let the location or the look of the building fool you. When I tell you this is THE BEST PLACE FOR AUTHENTIC MEXICAN EATS! I cannot stop eating their taco gringos Omg so yummy and everything is cooked to order right in front of you. This is the only place that can compare to the Hispanic food in California! You have to try it! DEFINITELY DESERVES MORE THAN 5 stars!!!!

My GOODNESS!! Tacos Al Pastor- to die for!!! This place is GREAT!!!! Not from around here but we were looking for something quick but good (good luck right) we scored on this one!! The yelp reviews are great so why not right?!?! WORTH IT!! They don't take cards (FYI) and don't count on the ATM at the gas station next door (out of service the day we went). Oh! They take call in orders too!!

I originally was going to place the order online, but they're online option said it was unavailable so I went inside and sat down at the bar. The service was OK though it seemed most people did not speak English, which is fine. It just made it kind of harder to communicate. That said the food was decent but the reason why I gave two stars was because I feel very misled on pricing. The menu showed Que Siberia tacos three for $12. Steak/Asada tacos for three dollars which brings my total to 15+ the two drinks. I thought she said it was $20.80 so I paid it with my card and gave her five dollars cash for a tip. I get to the car just to double check the transaction and she charged me 3499 on my card and took the cash. I went back inside to confront her about this advising. She completely overcharged me, and she only offered to give my six dollars tip back to me. I am now going to dispute the transaction with my bank because I was unable to resolve this issue. That's sad.

Tacos El Nevado came highly recommended, so I headed over for lunch with high hopes. The restaurant was packed when I arrived around 1:30 p.m., which is usually a good sign. It appears to be a converted fast-food building with its own parking lot, outdoor patio, and a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Despite the Charlotte heat pushing triple digits, the dining room was comfortable and bustling. Service was friendly from the start, and I was quickly seated with ice water, lemon, fresh chips, and three house-made salsas. The chips were excellent--fresh, crisp, and clearly made in-house. The standout salsa for me was the red salsa, which packed plenty of heat and flavor. There was also a tomatillo salsa and a creamy green avocado-style salsa. Both were good, although the tomatillo leaned a little too tart for my taste. The menu is extensive, with everything from seafood dishes and quesadillas to tacos and larger combination plates. As someone who loves sampling a little of everything, I was hoping for more traditional combo options, but this menu takes a different approach. I ordered the crispy taco plate with rice and beans. The presentation was attractive, with the tacos served upright in a metal rack alongside refried beans and Mexican rice. The rice and beans were both delicious and easily the highlight of the plate. Where things got mixed for me was the taco filling. I was expecting a straightforward seasoned ground beef taco, but the beef filling tasted more like a guisado-style preparation with a softer texture and a slightly tangy flavor profile. It may simply be a regional style or a misunderstanding when ordering, but it wasn't what I had anticipated. The chicken taco, however, was excellent. Tender, flavorful, and clearly made with higher-quality chicken than you typically find in a crispy taco. After trying it, I immediately wished I had ordered all chicken. While this visit didn't completely win me over, I don't think it's fair to judge a restaurant by one dish. The packed dining room, friendly service, fresh chips, excellent salsas, and strong chicken taco all suggest there's more to explore here. Next time, I'd skip the crispy beef tacos and dive into the street tacos or some of the house specialties that seem to be what many regulars were ordering. Tacos El Nevado didn't become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Charlotte on this visit, but it earned a second chance. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. Keep exploring. Sometimes the next great meal is just one menu item away.

But I have to start with a small heartbreak: my beloved puffy taco is gone. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where the puffy taco was created, and it's deeply nostalgic for me. It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Bottom line: Even without the puffy taco, Superica remains one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte. Come hungry, bring friends, share plates--and as always, travel safe and eat well.

I had the cheese enchiladas and it was really delicious. The enchilada sauce was tasty. The rice and beans are also family style and was a nice addition.
