I just recently (a few days ago) met a friend here for lunch and ordered 2 tacos dorado. The tacos were served in a pool of grease, and they were sparse. The salsa looked like el pato mixed with ketchup. I initially thought it WAS ketchup. It didn't taste like salsa, it tasted like a a can of el pato that had been sitting out for a couple of days. it was sour. My friend ordered a burrito, but didn't eat the salsa. He tasted the salsa and said he hoped he didn't get sick. This is an EXTREMELY disappointing experience. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that didn't serve real salsa...especially in Imperial Valley. wow. read more

We love it here. Margaritas are our favorites. Excellent bar in back and patio. OK menu with reasonable prices. Always friendly with good, appreciated service. Clean and spacious dining rooms and restrooms. Nice, cozy atmosphere in the separate bar with a good juke box and many sports on TV. Plenty of parking. Open 6 AM, back bar opens at noon. They can easily handle big groups and cater offsite to any size group anyplace, including the dunes too. read more

This place is horrible, save your money. How can you mess up chips well these people can they have zero favor even adding salt doesn't help, we were still optimistic and ordered food well . This is a restaurant with a very nice atmosphere - not hole in the wall, tho I like those as well!...the decor is colorful and cozy...no television or loud music blaring...yay!.... The salsa was good and the chips substantial - and complimentary....I ordered a fish taco and a chile relleno...the sautéed fish taco came with a lemon wedge, which was a nice touch...I could not taste the fish under the pico and lemon... There aren't many reasons to come to Brawley. However, if you find yourself here like I did I recommend this restaurant. The beer is cold. The chips came out warm and crispy and the salsa was sabrosa y picante. The sope was average in flavor and the stuffed chili's photographed better than they tasted. They were pretty bland even for being wrapped in bacon. The service was good and all of the ladies working here were very friendly. Overall it was ok. This is your best choice for the area. If the service wasn't so good I would have rated a 3 in taste alone. read more

The food was adequate but really upset my stomach the next day. I've had much better Mexican food elsewhere but I guess when you're essentially in the middle of nowhere there aren't too many options. One of my best friends loves this place and eats here all the time so maybe it was just a bad night. The service was slow and we were the only people there most of the night. The bathrooms smelled gross and I'm not sure how clean they were. I usually wash my hands before eating but washing my hands in there somehow felt counterproductive. I was visiting from the SF Bay Area and decided to stop in for breakfast. I ordered the chili verde plate. It came with beans, eggs and the chili verde. I didn't get any tortillas for a while and I thought maybe I had been forgotten. The tortillas arrived within a few minutes and they were fresh off the grill. The serving size of my plate was generous, the pork was tender, the green sauce delicious and with homemade tortillas - fantastic! The beans were good and my eggs were cooked as requested. Came to Brawley on a business trip. I was invited to this restaurant and I ordered the fish tacos with rice and beans and chose corn tortillas over flour. I loved the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa by the way. Anyway back to my entree, the fish was great, grilled and spiced were not over baring. There was cabbage over the fish which was great but pico de gallo was in the side which I spooned on top. I did feel that any type of sauce would have added great flavor but it didn't come with any. I'm not the type to through a fit, so I added the chip salsa, but it wasn't what I was expecting, guess I needed more spice. It's not great, for The Valley, but it will do... for Brawley. Seeing as how Brawley is its own little establishment in the middle of The Valley's no where, Chabelas offers average Mexican food. The prices are reasonable, and hell sometimes the food is delicious, but there's a reason why I've waited a while to post my comments on the restaurant. Eating here, is a hit or miss. Both in regards to the service, and in regards to the food. I have had both awesome service/good food, and absolutely despicable service and messed up orders. Today, I not only received my meal correctly and to my liking, I was greeted with friendly service. On my numerous attendances to Chabelas, I have experienced more negative than positive experiences. I work in Brawley, and selection for food (especially consumable) is slim to none. I won't be too hard on the place, as it has been struck with the responsibility of moving it's location and losing some of it's employees after last years big Easter Earthquake (which damaged their previous establishment), however, I also will not give it anything higher than 3 stars, even if I was pleased on today's trip out there. I suggest their Carne Asada (as they have one of the best marinades I have tried), Enchilada's, Chabela's Nachos (delicious appetizer), Chile's Guerrito's (they are by far the best!), and Special Quesadilla. read more

Stopped here kinda late after a long day in the sun. I was craving a margarita and cheese enchilada and was not disappointed! We were seated immediately, even though it was a Saturday night. Chips and salsa were at the table in a flash, and were delicious. Chips were warm and fresh, and the salsa was perfectly spicy. Our server was awesome. Super fast, friendly, and informative. She really went above and beyond whenever we asked a question to make sure we got what we wanted. The cheese enchilada was SO delicious. Some cheese enchiladas are super flat when the cheese melts but this was full of cheese, so that it stretched and strung from the fork every time I took a bite. Hubby liked his chimi, too. Margaritas were maybe a little weak, but they were tasty and that's all the matters sometimes. If I had a real complaint it was that the food was too hot when it first came out. But that's really not so bad. We come out to visit the Salton Sea every year and have had some pretty poor dining experiences around here, so I'm really excited to have a restaurant to add to our "good food" list! read more

We ate here at lunch about a year ago, and for Brawley, it wasn't awful. But things must have slid downhill since. Our waitress was very nice. But it took 20 minutes for our first round of drinks to all finally dribble in from the bar. And then the margaritas were syrupy sweet and seemingly without any hint of tequila-like substance. I don't know why Las Chabelas didn't get better reviews, but I like this restaurant. My boyfriend's dad took us here while we were visiting him. We came on a Friday, and it wasn't busy when we first got there, but as the evening progresses, customers started filtering in and it got pretty busy. Since it's a Friday, they had menudo (served only on Fri-Sun). I've never had menudo, so I figured I should try it and I'm glad I did. I ordered the smaller size, which looks small when it arrived, but it was filling. I really enjoyed my dish. The soup was on the salty side, but it's perfect to dip the tortilla into. The tripe was perfect. They must've spent a lot of time slow cooking it, because it was soft and buttery. Melted in my mouth, unlike the chewy tripe I've had in the past. I also ordered the shrimp ceviche on a tortilla. I've had ceviche in the past that was. on the bland side. Not this one. They had the right amount of lemon,which brought out the flavor of the shrimp. I'd definitely eat here again if I come back to Brawley. Next time, I'm going to try pozole, which is another dish I've yet to try. read more

We will not be back... my Uncle and Aunt were with us and they will also never be back... The noise level was crazy. I have never been to a louder place. I have kids and enjoy a semi noisey place to drowned out other tables and such... but my ears hurt here... The rude and lazy staff was the worst part. Waited around 20 minutes and only received chips and salsa that tasted like tomato. In that time two tables came after us and were given their chips,drinks, and orders were taken. This Mexican restaurant is by far the most adequate place to get quality Mexican cuisines. The customer service here is also remarkable. The waitress was very attentive and catered to all of my needs. I highly doubt anyone in the valley have actual homemade horchata, unlike Chabelas. The ambiance here is so "hacienda" like that it makes you feel like you're out at the rancho with the abuelos. I'll be coming back for sure. read more

In town for work and asked around for good food and was recommended to this place. Came in around 2pm, and decided to try the Chicken Fajitas. Given free chips and salsa and was attended very well while food was made. Fajitas came with rice, beans, guac and choice of tortillas. Fajitas were HOT (nothing worse than cold food) and came with plenty of chicken and veggies. Chicken had great taste. Will come back when in town. read more
