My husband and I found this place after we moved down the road from it, we decided to check it out because well like any other Texan we love Mexican food. This place offers decent Mexican food for an affordable price. I wouldn't say it's the best food but good nonetheless and the wait staff always is so nice and quick to help out/serve. I am also a fan of the margaritas, my main issue is it smells like smoke in there...I'm not sure if they allow smoking during the day and only did away with it at night or if they did away with it all together but it is so smelly in there. My Realtor and I stopped here for lunch today, both of us for the first time. My family and I are relocating to the area from El Paso (the home of some of the best Mexican food anywhere), so naturally, we are looking for great restaurants. This little place in a nondescript strip mall did not disappoint. I didn't see what I wanted on the menu--a combination of one cheese, one beef, and one chicken enchilada--so the server allowed me to order it just that way and did not charge extra. We were served immediately a large basket of fresh, crispy, warm tortilla chips with both red and green salsas. The entrees came out very quickly. Everything was good, hot, fresh, flavorful. Nothing tasted pre-made or processed. Very satisfying experience for less than $20 for two. Yes, I will be back. read more

This place is AWESOME. My family has been to many other mexican restaurants, including high end ones, and we are always comparing them to Las Cascadas, and let me tell you, there is no comparison. I just had to check back in and update my review. Like so many others, when Gringo's finally opened on the feeder road at 45/Cypresswood, we were dying to give it a try and actually couldn't get in for the long lines until today. I wished we had saved our money and time and had the Las Cascadas beef fajitas for two, instead. Your salsa beats them by a country mile, your service is fast, your prices and lunch specials are awesome, and your food is authentic and not bland and frozen-tasting. How about Tex-Mex with a side of attitude? This place has the rudest hostesses I've ever witnessed in a functioning business. Their rudeness has been on my mind a lot lately as we usually order carryout from here at least 2-3 times a month. Today on this particular occasion, I called to place the order and mentioned at least 10 times that refried beans were not to be anywhere in either meal (fajita chicken chimichanga or carne guisada). I specified it directly for the chimichanga because I know they put refried beans inside of the chimi. Hostess said okay, repeated order back to me, and quoted us ten minutes. Husband leaves to pick it up. Gets there 15 minutes after the call. Food is not ready. To make matters worse, hostess is rude. When he arrives, no one is at the hostess stand so he takes a seat. Hostess comes back from wherever and begins to organize menus and after a few beats casually looks up and says "yes?" to my husband, as in "what in the heck are you doing just sitting there?" I hadn't even mentioned my poor perception of the Las Cascadas hostesses and I get a text from him saying, "Rudest hostess ever. Someone needs to take her cockiness down a level." He gets home with the food. Everything looks fine until he cuts into his chimichanga. SURPRISE! There are refried beans in the chimichanga. At this point, I'm incredibly upset, as we drive 15 minutes to get to this location and they've messed up the order. So, I call. The hostess who originally took our order answers the phone and swears up and down that she made the plates and there are not any refried beans anywhere on either plate. I tell her I'm looking straight at refried beans in the chimichanga and she tells me they don't even put refried beans in the chimichanga. Then she tells me to hold on- at this point in time she very poorly covers the phone and proceeds to tell another woman that I placed my order earlier and told her 10 times that beans couldn't be on the plate and now I'm home and I'm saying there are beans on the plate but that's not possible because she put the plates together and saw no beans. She then proceeded to tell the other person to take the call because she couldn't "handle me." Please note, I was not rude at this point in time. The other person then gets on the phone, I explain the situation. She says the hostess who made the plates insists there are no beans. I say "I'm staring at beans, I'm fairly sure I know what beans look like." She tells me to drive back and she'll make another chimichange plate. I say no, I live 15 minutes away, she can deliver it or refund the order. She then VERY RUDELY said, we'll only refund the chimichanga. I replied, "I didn't ask you to refund anything else." At that point in time, I hung up. I couldn't believe both hostesses or hostess + manager were so completely rude. Long story short- fairly good food with a healthy side of hostess attitude. Went there for the first time today for lunch after hearing people praise this place. Best thing here was the chips and salsa. Had stuffed jalapeños and you can tell they were frozen. When we received them, they weren't even hot! As if they had been sitting for 10 minutes. Even the ones you get from Sonic are better. For entrees we got the stuffed avocado platter, one chicken, one beef. The avocados we had were brown. Never had that at a place that sells fried avocado. Meat had no spices nor flavor. Nothing was hot and you can tell everything had been frozen until it was ordered. Can't believe this place had so many good reviews. Typically if I don't like a place, I keep it to myself and tell myself I just won't go back but this was worthy of a review to save anyone else their time and money if interested in trying this place out. They have some decent food, but they allow smoking at the bar, and the smoke just doesn't understand that it's supposed to stay in the bar. The whole place wreaks of smoke, which ruins your eating experience. At best I would call-ahead an order to go. Went their for lunch today. Service was excellent as with many Tex-Mex places. I thought their salsa was strange and not very good. A rough start for a Mexican joint. I had a combo plate. The taco meat was a little on the extra greasy side and was mediocre. Their cheese enchilada was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I'd rather take the extra ten minutes and eat at some of the better Tex-Mex places around. They were moderately busy so it seems to work for some folks. I don't know how people have given this place higher reviews; perhaps they are from Idaho or something. The taste was good, portions (off lunch menu) were.....fair at best. I ordered the burrito special, which looked more like an enchilada instead when it came out. I will give props on the guacamole though. As far as the salsa..... since when is red salsa supposed to be sweet?? Guess overall it was decent for the price, but nothing great or worth coming back for. read more

Just moved into the area and was my first time there (lunch). I grew up eating Casa Elena and subsequently Los Tios after they won the Houston Tex Mex restaurant war of the 80s, so my comparison on Tex-Mex is always based on the comparison. Queso was good but could use some chili's, chips were fresh and the green and red salsas were quite good (too mild for me but nice flavor). I had the monterrey lunch plate and all the food that was supposed to be hot was piping hot, cold things cold. All quite tasty, practically licked my plate. Everything appeared to be home made and tasted fresh. Service was awesome, very attentive and fast. Thrilled to find a Tex-Mex joint this close that I like. The cheese enchiladas tasted fine, likely as good as any in the Houston area. I would rate them a 9 to 9.5 out of 10. I had fajita beef in the enchiladas al carbon & while they were tender, the fajita beef inside was essentially tasteless. The chips were thin & crispy, very nice. The red salsa was thick (which I like) however, I did not care for the taste. The green salsa was significantly thinner & tasted like other green salsas I have had at many Mexican restaurants (as opposed to Tex-Mex restaurants). I do not care for that variety but it seems like a multitude of Latinos like it because it is very popular. read more
