I went to eat at Corrales on Friday night and accidentally left my phone behind…read more When my wife went back to pick it up, using the location from Find My iPhone, the same server who had waited on me told her she didn't recognize me or know who I was. My wife was there with our two little children, trying to explain what I had been wearing, who I was with, and where we had been sitting. She was still ignored and received very little help from the staff. Eventually, I did get my phone back, and I'm thankful for that. But what bothers me is everything surrounding it. I tipped more than 20% that night. I always try to leave my table as clean as possible out of respect for the server and busser. I've been coming here for years. I genuinely love the food and have always enjoyed the atmosphere. I even have memories of getting ice cream with my son from the place next door, which I understand is under the same ownership. That's why this experience hurt more than it probably would have somewhere else. Maybe this was the actions of one server. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. I can't say for certain what every staff member knew. But from my wife's experience, no one seemed willing to help her, and the way the situation was handled felt dishonest, dismissive, and disrespectful. Something as simple as returning someone's lost phone should not have turned into this. I have a lot of good memories at Corrales, and I truly loved coming here. Unfortunately, after this experience, I don't see myself coming back. Thanks for the memories, Corrales. I sincerely wish this situation had been handled differently.

That said, the pricing was hard to justify. The Trompo al Pastor was $49 (portion is big enough to share, despite being described as per person), and the Barbacoa at $35 was decent but lacked depth of flavor and needed more seasoning. The $16 guacamole was also a surprisingly small portion for the price. We also ordered the Aguachile al Mango for $28, which sounded great but was almost inedible due to the extreme spice level. Overall, a nice atmosphere with strong cocktails, but the value just didn't match the cost for us.

Prices on the menu were outdated compared to what was printed on the bill. Tacos were $3.50 each instead of $3, and a Taco Dinner was $9.74 instead of $8.99. Choices for tacos had vegetarian-friendly options: - carne asada (skirt steak) - al pastor (guajillo marinated pork) - chorizo (Mexican sausage) - tripas (tripe) - pollo (chipotle pulled chicken) - picadillo (ground beef) - camaron (shrimp, house sauce, soy mayo) - veggie (poblano pepper, grilled onions, sour cream, green salsa) - pescado (white fish, house soy sauce, mayo) - impossible (plant based meat) ----- Taco Dinner: 3 tacos with rice and beans ($9.74). Choice of toppings were onion, cilantro, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. Add avocado for $0.50. I picked the carne asada, al pastor, and pescado tacos with all the toppings. All the tacos were unexpectedly stacked and had protein cooked to a good level of tenderness. Three bottles of hot sauces with varying heats were provided that complimented the tacos well. Both the rice and beans were decent. Combo price was great for the amount and was very filling. ----- The place is dimly lit with lots of seating spots and even a couple of retro arcade machines. A narrow strip of parking is along the outside of the side of the building.

There are serious questions about how the situation was handled, including why he was not cut off from alcohol service sooner and the actions of security. This incident deserves a thorough investigation and accountability.

Basically you can't go wrong with anything that you order. The staff are very friendly and spirited, and they are happy to answer any questions you might have ("chilaquiles burritos? Really?"). Nice outside patio seating as well. A hostess will greet you. Spanish is the first language , but can communicate in English. I didn't really understand the hostess when I asked why we couldn't sit at the front of the restaurant in the high top tables. I thought she said because of mosquitoes, but my internal translation may be incorrect . We sat in the inside dining room. The drinks & appetizer were good quality. Goat quesabirria, skinny Cadillac margarita and Don Julio . They should bring out plates with the chips and salsa when there is more than one person at the table. It promotes healthy eating habits as not to "double dip". But overall, service was good. Friendly people and good food/drinks. They are suppose to have the Best Pozole in Chicago, looks like I'll need to return to verify that. Looking forward to it. Parking is out front or in surrounding area, 2 hour max, read signs. My brother has been telling us about Brasas for a couple of years and this time we finally stopped. Now we can't wait to go back! One of the best things Chicago is there are these little hole in the wall places that have excellent food. This place reminds us of the Depot. Another little hole in the wall on Roosevelt but the chef came from the 95th. My brother said the tortas are the thing to get here. Although he also said breakfast is pretty good. So tortas it was. Two of us ordered the chicken Milanese and one carne asada. When these are served it looks like a mini loaf of french bread. They are huge. The bread one of the most important components to any sandwich was soft and pillowy. The milanese was crispy and not overdone. The carne asada was juicy and flavorful. The tortas come with lettuce and tomato. I finished mine first and started eyeing my wife who gave me the touch mine and sleep on the couch for the next month look. I could have and wanted to eat more but then again there is always next time. And maybe breakfast too. These tortas were outstanding!

The restaurant has that classic Mexican restaurant look and a welcoming atmosphere. From our table, we could see straight into the kitchen, which was busy the entire time with food being prepared and coming out. The staff were really nice and welcoming, checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the Asada Sope Dinner, and wow... these things were massive. Each sope was packed with meat and covered with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and crema, with a layer of beans underneath holding everything together. It was basically a little mountain of food on each plate. The sopes themselves were crispy and crunchy around the edges. The beans added a warm, savory layer underneath, while the crema brought some coolness and richness to everything. The meat was the star for me. It was juicy and tender with those little charred edges that gave it a smoky, grilled flavor. These were honestly epic. Definitely I'll be coming back just for those sopes, a delicious mountain of food.
