First issue: the restaurant isn't wheelchair accessible. There are steps to get in and no ramp. The only option was a tiny front patio with about 8 tables. I parked my electric wheelchair next to a table and my wife sat beside me. Since the restaurant was empty at the time, we told the waitress we'd move if other customers needed the space. From the start she seemed annoyed we were there and made comments about blocking the path, plus eye rolls and faces when we explained the situation. We were a group of 6, but only my wife, 2 kids and I sat at the patio table. My sister and niece ordered and sat separately. When the check came, it was for all 6 on one bill. She had added a $25 gratuity. We were also charged $1 more for shrimp fajitas than the menu price, and a $5 credit card fee that was never disclosed. When I asked her to remove the gratuity since we weren't seated together as one party, and to fix the overcharge + credit card fee, she got argumentative and rude. Said the "machine charges that" and insisted we pay the gratuity because we were 6 people, even though we couldn't access the inside dining room. The owner did come out, was patient, listened, and apologized for her behavior, the menu pricing, and not disclosing the credit card fee. He fixed the bill. Instead of serving courses on separate plates, a standard Mexican restaurant meal aggregates your main item (like an enchilada, taco, or chile relleno) along with all of your sides (typically Mexican rice and refried or charro beans) onto one single, large dinner plate or oval platter. La Catina is plate happy! For my order of 2 tacos, refried beans and rice I was presented with three large rectangular plates. As there were three of us a forest of crockery soon engulfed our booth table what with main course, sides and beverages. Foot placement was uncomfortable because of the crossed beams supporting the table causing one's feet to be tucked in limiting stretching. A specialty dip was a melange of lettuce, taco chips and beans which defied dipping and required a fork. The tacos were open faced and inadequate to the job of ingredient containment and needed a fork. The atmosphere is warm and the staff enthusiastic. My guess is that they have a serving station plan and each station has his own crockery. bottom line and cheerful atmosphere was not matched by the difficulties serving plan.
