    small veggie taco
    Christina D.

Colosso is defined as any creature or think of giant size. In this case, we're talking tacos. The namesake, not our impression of them. We'd been torn between choosing here or Mighty Taco, wanting something quick and cheap. Tasty, obviously, as well, the highest of the priorities. A priority that was thankfully met when we took the gamble and decided to give it a second try. I've passed by this place oodles of times, and yet had only once gone in, before the pandemic. In the ever evolving blocks of the area, it has been a mainstay, emitting fried food smell onto the street corner. Last time I had visited I remembered that we all felt incredibly neutral about the food and dining in. There are many seats squished into the small rainbow space, along with arcade games that I assume are there to entertain you while you wait. While the giant menu is posted on the wall (I do believe this is where the name originated, as it includes not only tacos, but also pizza, wings, subs, burritos and the appropriately named "this & that," covering the rest of their fried bases) we opted to grab the abandoned takeout menu sitting on a table to make our choices. Nearly confident, we approached the counter. Three guys working, and yet despite us being able to see all of them having pretty chill Monday night, they rathered carry on their conversation for another few minutes than acknowledge us waiting at the counter. I almost felt compelled to holler "sorry to interrupt" to grab their attention since there isn't a bell. My hunger can bring out the impatience in me. During this time, we peeked inside to see an old pizza sitting in the shelf, covered in overly burnt pepperoni. Neither of us tried it, so feel free to make your own opinions on black pepperoni. I naturally led with a question asking about size. There's a magical song about beans and toots, and being with an amigo, I did not want this song to come into fruition. The plan was to get a veggie taco, meat and bean for my amigo and then a small container of chips to share. But I had to know the difference between small and large, which is a medium, because super is large, because I must be the only one who thinks that if you're going to rescale your tacos, your largest should be called the colosso after your namesake. The guy behind the counter explained that "the small folds in half" and the large (moving his hands slightly bigger) does not. The super is even bigger. I wish I could just tell y'all the diameter of the tortillas, like maybe you're getting an extra two inches of food, but your guess is as good as mine. Speaking of guessing, be okay with unravelling your meal to figure out what is what. After a small wait, we took our ten dollars worth of food the couple blocks back to my apartment to find that they don't label the meal. My small, which is maybe a third smaller than the medium large was confirmed by peeking inside to find the beans glopped in there. There were also some lettuce shreds and chunks of tomato. It tasted good, like your basic taco. No bells or whistles, not that I had ordered any. We both agreed the food was good. The chips honestly look like basic rounds you can buy at the grocer, salty circles, and come with a hefty container of cheese. There was a sufficient amount to split, a small clamshell box for a few dollars. Okay so yeah, it's a conveniently located quick fix for your taco craving when your pockets aren't feeling deep enough to splurge on the new cantina. But the ambiance isn't worth the dine in, and with options all around, I wouldn't make this my ride or starve. Perhaps if we had ordered "that" instead of "this" we'd be singing a different tune, but if it's Taco Tuesday for you and the kids, you're probably just as well off making them at home if you're looking for a side of warm fuzzies with your meal.

    Garlic, tomato. Cheesy, pizza

My first impression of Colossal taco North Tonawanda New York was amazing. I don't generally like pizza. However, once in a blue moon, I do order it and it's either greasy or soggy. I was astounded. when a taco restaurant made pizza better than I've ever had. I also ordered six tacos for taco Wednesday. Very delicious. Then I ordered pizza. Log size cream cheese, and strawberry roll ups. And they were outstanding. The delivery guy was excellent. Consistency is the most important thing to me and I hope I can continue to be satisfied as I was for my first impression and first order. Outstanding guys delicious! in fact, places that generally specialize in pizza cannot compare. The cheese was thick the tomatoes were cooked perfectly. I love cheesy tomato pizza with garlic and olive oil. If I'm gonna eat pizza at all, that's my favorite. And let me tell you that pizza was indeed impressive & on point. Thank you for providing me the delicious food I paid for!

    Fingerella Taco

It had been quite some time since I had been here... in fact I think the last time was when I was around 40 pounds heavier and could just barely uncomfortably fit into their booths. Good news... I can actually comfortably dine in here again! I used to be all about getting the beef tacos and the taco roll ups here, but in the last few visits I have become crazily addicted to the Fingerella Taco, which only come in the Large or Super size... tortilla, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, marinara sauce, and more mozzarella. It's crazy good, and a great value. On this visit I also wound up ordering their mac and cheese bites, which were fried well and tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary... still worked as a good complement to the Fingerella Taco. One thing to note which according to first time visitors to this restaurant is that "taco" means lettuce and tomato (unless it's a specialty like the Fingerella), with small being taco size, and large being burrito size, and super being a large burrito size. Conversely, their "burritos" are just the meat and cheese. The interior of the restaurant historically has been a drab, dark, and dingy dump to say the least... that what keeps me from giving it a 5. The food for me gets it, whereas at best the interior is a 3. I must say that this visit it was definitely less dingy and drab than usual, so overall would split the difference and give it a 4.

Colosso Taco is the epitome of cheap, satisfying, late-night, heading-into-a-hangover eats. Most tacos are under three bucks a piece, and burritos under five. And they are generously stuffed with tasty comfort-food fillings. I like the vegetarian burrito, a two-hand'er packed with veggies and re-fried beans. In addition to the restaurant's namesake food, the menu also includes pizza, wings, subs, and side appetizers. There are some combo-deals on the menu, too. (FYI, there aren't any gluten-free shells here, really not any gluten-free options at all.) This North Tonawanda location is within stumbling distance of the bars. But that lifestyle is many, many, many moons ago for me now, haha. It's still a nice evening food option, even if you aren't in town for partying. I've recently walked down here a couple times, totally sober after a show at The Riv. It's a nice walk across the bridge to pre-burn a few taco calories on the way. This is a dive taco shop, with vintage booths and video games, sometimes questionable dining room unkemptness, and sometimes a bit of gruff saltiness from the hard-working staff. But it's never enough to deter me from a yummy burrito. If you are in the mood for affordable local tacos, whether it's after midnight or not, Colosso Taco is sure to satisfy.

    This isn't a taco.

Colosso Taco was a colossal disappointment to me. What do you do when you are hungry, in search of tacos, and drive by a place with taco in it's name? You stop there......for tacos. The place is pretty boring inside but a place like this doesn't need to be fancy, it just needs to provide good food. I placed my order for a chicken finger taco and a colosso taco expecting one very important thing, for them to be tacos. Now the menu here has a section for tacos and a section for burritos, which is where my problem comes in. I ordered tacos and was served 2 burritos, now, those are 2 different things, one is smaller and not completely wrapped like a burrito while the other is an actual burrito, so what do these guys consider a burrito if a taco is a burrito? That's a question I may never have the answer too. The tacos (burritos basically) were not great taste wise. I ordered the chicken mild and I'm not actually sure it had any sauce on it, while the colosso taco was a standard beef taco (burrito). I didn't hate the food, but I didn't love it either. Overalll, I did not get the tacos I wanted so it looks like my hankering for them will continue. This place seems pretty solid for a small pizza/taco place and I'm sure it's a great place for a late night bite, however, I can't see myself returning for food in the future.

Stinger taco w/BBQ, Lettuce & Tomatos! And a few pizza roll ups to top it off! Food was great!

The owner stopped by the table and conversed a few other times he was walking by. Their complimentary chips and salsa are heavenly. The chips have a southwest seasoning of sorts, and the salsa is not your typical salsa... but a few bars above. We also ordered queso. It was TO DIE FOR. I need to go back already for more chips and dip. My fiancé ordered the tacos... his three were carne asada, adobo grilled shrimp, and the pork belly. He struggled to pick a favorite. He loved the sauce on the pork belly, and decided the carne asada was his favorite. I went with the shrimp fajitas. Very good sized meal. The shrimp were delicious. The Mexican rice was a bit different than usual Mexican rice... seemed more like a blend of other grains, and instead of your typical refried beans, they were just straight up pinto. LOTS of food. We went home beyond stuffed, and still wanting more chips.

It looked like there were only about 3 tables seated at the time and a few people at the bar. The restaurant has a cool vibe with bright colors and a VW bus in the middle that you can sit in! So neat! We chose to sit outside on the patio, which was a nice option to have. Once seated we were brought our menus and shortly there after complimentary chips and salsa. We each ordered a drink, one was a non-alcoholic grapefruit jalapeno refresher and the other was an alcoholic watermelon basil margarita. The NA one unfortunately didn't have any heat or flavor at all of the jalapeno in the actual drink, but it was ok. My friend enjoyed his watermelon drink, but only had one because it was a bit sweet. We ordered the Pozole Rojo, shrimp taco trio and shrimp fajitas. The Pozole Rojo was great and definitely my favorite part of the meal. It had a lot of pork in it and I enjoy the hominy corn, which you don't see on many menus. My friend really enjoyed the shrimp as did I; it was very well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The beans that came with the fajita were quite bland, which was disappointing. All in all, I would give them another shot.
