It saddens me to say this but this used to be my favorite place for arrachera tacos. I bought 11 tacos and a pop and the steak tacos was mixed with barbarcoa meat! Why!? Just why!? I threw most of them away (7 tacos). Pissed me off cause tacos aren't cheap there, about $3 each (might be off by $0.05) and I drove from Lansing IL for them! But I won't go there ever again, La Pasadita is my other to go place (Ashland and Division) to go!!! read more

If you want excellent, minimalist tacos, burritos, or tostados, this is the place to go. Owned by the La Pasadita folks, Las Asadas really does prepare some of the best Mexican food in the city. No fluff, no bull. I definitely recommend getting the broiled steak in anything -- a great taco from here has the meat, onions, cilantro, and salsa. Boom. Perfect. Highly recommended eatery in the Bucktown area. If you end up down in Wicker Park, just go to La Pasadita (one of the three locations), which won't disappoint either. Gotta say -- I loved Las Asadas. So much so that I thought I might have had a problem for a while with how many times I ordered from them. It's not cheap, but their burritos were definitely worth it. I use the past tense, because today I had a terrible experience with their staff after a delivery came with only half of my order in it. When I called to ask the driver, he was apologetic but did not have a second order, or anything, for this restaurant. I called Las Asadas, and their management staff told me that 'they were sure they put the correct order in the bag' and told me that either I was lying, or the driver stole my food and was lying to me. They refused to send the second part of the order even after contact from Grubhub and their driver, and now I will go a life without eating their burritos. Grubhub did the right thing and refunded me the amount paid, but only after a ridiculous amount of effort on my end as a result of a poor job done by Las Asadas. An excellent Northside taqueria. The carne asada is some of the best, if not the best, on this side of town. Though this place is apparently related to La Pasadita, I think the carne asada here is better. I like the flavor at La Pasadita, but I always end up with a sore jaw from chewing those rubbery, sinewy pieces. At Las Asadas, the carne asada is not as tender as, say, El Milagro, but it has a nice texture. And as mentioned by another Yelper, a grill is superior to a griddle. Equally good are the lengua and the barbacoa. At some places these meats can be an afterthought, and I've had some funky lengua before, but the quality here is high. On the not so great end, I love the idea of a chile relleno taco, but every time I've had it, it's pre-fried and then reheated in a microwave. Pretty much every taqueria I have been to in this fair country goes with this method, so I can't point the finger specifically at Las Asadas, but: I can't help but think how awesome a freshly fried chile relleno would be in a taco. Also, reheated fried food is generally awful. No exception here. The salsa here is also hit or miss. Sometimes there is a lot of flavor, heat, and acidity, and sometimes it's a watery mess that only makes your tacos sloppy. There is a parking lot here that always has space, though it is very narrow. Something as basic as chips and salsa cost 3$ and the chips are stale and the "salsa" comes from a squeezable bottle that's mostly water. Burritos are only meat and beans and cost 10$. Las Asadas always accompanies any trip to the Congress Theater that I'm fortunate enough to take. The chicken and carne asada burritos are really good and the restaurant uses a combination of cilantro, onions and sour cream that gives the burritos a flavor that's pretty unique, but great! I don't know why people like this place. I had their food once and didn't like it. Months later a friend demanded we go, saying they have heard good things. Here I am again. First of all, the cashier was rude when I placed my order. They got the order wrong and were rude again when I asked them to correct it. I'm such an out of sight, out of mind type of person that I sometimes forget that this little place has the best tacos I've ever had. It's a little shack, definitely not attractive. Small counter seating area, small menu. Can't speak for the beef tacos but the chicken is delicious with chunks of white meat, lots of chihuahua cheese, fresh cilantro and chunks of avocado if you so desire. Add some rice and an ice cold horchata and you've got an incredibly good, inexpensive lunch. I am very mixed on Las Asadas. Now, that doesn't stop me from dropping in here when a taco craving overtakes me, but I'm still mixed on them. Las Asadas has always come in handy for a quick taco, but unfortunately they have been all over the place for me. Sometimes the tacos are killer, other times the meat is very dry and hard to eat. What wins out for them is that the tacos are fine more often than not, but it's those occasions where the chicken is absurdly dry that they get downgraded. Las Asadas does fit in well when needing to soak up some alcohol. They are insanely quick in bringing out the tacos and you can then quickly move on. If Lazo's or Arturos were better, I'd go there, but Las Asadas is the best of the bunch in that immediate area on Western Ave when you're fixing for a quick taco. read more

What a great find! My friend brought me to this place and what a good find. Its too bad I'm a public transit guy and a lazy one at that. So this place is just out of reach for me! But damn was it good I got the Barbacoa torta. It was 5 star quality. Messy in the most delicious way possible. With all the cheese and salsa oozing out. Makes my mouth water right now! I tried some of my friends steak from his taco and it was awesome! Some of the best in the city. I think only Paco's can rival this carne asada. The horchata was ok not as sweet as I ususally like it, but my friend faved about it. He is traditionally Mexican so I trust his taste buds. Western is full of taco spots but this is the first place I have had so far. I tried 3 different tacos, carne asada, barbacoa, and chicken. The carne asada was good, meat was tender. The barbacoa was prb my fave. It was juicy and had a saltier meatier taste to it. The chicken was not bad. Most taco spot mess up chicken tacos really bad. The chicken here isnt great but its not bad. All the tacos are sprinkled with onions and cilantro! Overall decent tacos but nothing special. Its a small place and parking kinda sucks, ps the small little parking space they have on a one way street,is not worth it, you will have a harder time getting out of that then prb eating your whole meal! read more

This is one my favorite places to get burritos, and tacos. I have still yet to try anything else they have because when I can only think if those 2 things when I walk in. The customer service is friendly and fast. They main downsides are going to be that it is a little pricer then similar restaurants in the area, and parking can be a pain sometimes. They have their own little parking lot but it can be easy to get trapped in there lol. read more

I'm surprised this place is only getting 3.5 stars but a lot of that is delivery issues (and I'm leaning towards 4.5 stars). I eat here in person, usually because the line at Ipsento coffee house a few doors down is out the door, which is fine as I should be having my coffee after I eat (but I guess I discovered this place because of that problem). Recommendations: Chili relleno taco - their poblanos are always large and stuffed to the gills with cheese. covered with cilantro and onions, I take a bite of this and then a bite of.... Barbacoa taco - I was eating the asada but they posted some chef's recommendation for this and I'm hooked. [if they could stuff the relleno with this and the cheese it would be the perfect Mexican fast food) Picadillo torta - maybe this is just a sandwich version of a "white boy taco" but damn its good - has everything on it: ground beef, cilantro, onions, tomato, potato, avocado, cheese, beans. They have a decent black salsa (not Traspasada quality, but not bad) that enhances all of the above. And the food gets served up fast, so I can down it and go get in damn line at Ipsento. read more

I love this place and we usually order from work 2-3 times a week, but I am afraid we are going to stop ordering. The last 5 or so times that we've ordered the portions have become smaller and smaller each time. Every time we've ordered someone would mention how skimpy they were getting, but we didn't make it a big deal, until today. I worked 2 yrs on the same block where the taco shack was. I went there almost everyday. My mouth is watering. I ordered 2 steak tacos and one chicken. *The ratio of Cilantro to Onion was PERFECT. More Cilantro than onion. * I am not a fan of chile, but Good God! the Salsa Verde! Drool! this sauce was great, it had heat but not paralyzing, more flavor than heat * Some reviewers mentioned the blandness of the chicken. I drowned mine in the sauce, unheard of for me. It isn't my neighborhood, and I find it a little scary to "visit" (I was regularly accosted in my office by 4 con artists) but I will always have the memory of the tender meat, all the cilantro, and the green sauce. I am now frequenting "Mi Cocina" on Kedzie in Logan Square, (though I wish they used less onion and could duplicate the sauce. I find their current one too hot.) read more

Food was mediocre however the service is terrible. They don't have any ice water so your forced to purchase bottles. Went with chips and salsa, no salsa and was informed the salsa is the containers of the green sauce. The chips were saturated in oil to where it oozes grease into your mouth. I ordered three tacos and one was wrapped inverted so the entire spilled onto the table upon picking it up, they did provide a new taco but not without numerous stink eyes and insults in Spanish. Had chicken and asada tacos, and didn't love the way the meat was prepared in either. Rice and beans were fine. Sopa was hearty, but had the same asada meat. My friend thought the lengua taco was decent. It's legit, but not prepared quite the way I'm used to and like. They have sodas and fountain drinks (no horchata, but a mango drink and jamaica). Friendly staff. Grill out where you can see it. 5-10 minutes' wait for orders. Several tables and room for a decent-sized group if you can get the tables. Plenty of street parking around. read more

Grabbed tacos to go here. Two carne Asada, one Barbacoa, and one beef tongue. All were good however I wasn't a big fan of the tortillas as they are not as small as traditional street tacos. Here's a tough review. I ordered three tacos: lengua, barbacoa and carne asada. The lengua, which I had first, was truly disappointing. It's always heartwarming when the cow's taste buds aren't removed. But with a taco like this, it kind of serves to visually reinforce the blandness. The barbacoa was better (like 3 stars). It was savory and flavorful, but nothing out of the ordinary. The texture, kind of like reconstituted shoelaces, was not encouraging either. Given the name of the place, I'd saved the carne asada for last. Well, it's not the best taco I've ever had (De Guerreros' al pastor in Brooklyn), but four hours later, the taste is still with me. The steak was tender and juicy, and really expertly cooked. For $1.65, it's almost comical, but even at four or five times the price, I'd be hard pressed to find charred meat of this caliber. This taco totally redeemed my lunch and made me happy I'd dropped by. Three tacos with good, homemade (guessing) green sauce for $5.52 with tax. Any time we drop below the $2/per threshold, it's a lot easier to be satisfied. But the carne asada taco is undoubtedly the equal of any I'll ever have. Avoid the lengua, as I said. The steak is where its AT! I got a steak burrito for my boyfriend and a chile relleno burrito for myself and ended up sneaking bites of the steak burrito because it was so good. Big yummy bites of steak that would be perfect on their own. While the chile relleno was a little too doughy for me, it was still okay. When (not if) I go back I am totally getting the steak. I think I am finally able to complete my top 5 tacos in Chicago. I've been trying to find a place worthy enough and I have fell short each time. This place didn't let me down. I heard of it through a family member and decided that I had to try it. It really isn't that convenient for me, so I took a while to finally stop in. I ordered a taco with onion and cilantro and a burrito (which I believe came with onions, cilantro, and beans). There was the option for some super burrito or something that came with rice, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, sour cream...probably more stuff. It was like $2 more or so and I felt that wasn't worth it. I like my burritos to focus on the meat anyway. So, the taco was delicious. Onion and cilantro is the way to go with these...add cheese if you'd like. The meat reminds me a lot of La Pasadita (which still has my #1 taco). My only knock on the taco was that it only had one tortilla. When I opened mine up, it was already falling apart. It wasn't too big a deal for me though. The burrito was good too. My knock on this is that I should have probably said no beans. Like I said, I like my burritos to focus on the meat and the beans just took away from that. I normally wouldn't get them, but since it came prepared that way, I figured I should try it that way. Overall, awesome place. They know how to cook some carne asada, so I'm sure anything you order with that, will taste awesome. read more

Came here as I was attending a large beer tasting nearby and didn't know what was good in the area. Ordered a super carne asada burrito and a large jamaica to go. Let me just say that the burrito was top notch, the steak was cooked and seasoned just right and they added guacamole to it, which I wish more places would add to their burrito and the jamaica was very good. However, the size of the burrito was anything but super as it didn't look any different from any other place, which kinda ached me as I paid $2 more for it to be bigger than usual. My skinny frame finished it in one sitting, which goes to show you how "unsuper" the size was. Take caution when consuming the complementary green sauce was so hot that its intenseness still lingered a good 5-10 minutes after consuming water. A definite 5 stars if they would make their super burritos bigger! read more

My name is Brent and I'm addicted to Las Asadas. Luckily for me, I am able to calm my jones very easily as this is right down the street from my current digs. This is truly one of those places that you question your sanity for even thinking about eating the food. It's run down, dirty looking, and not the most inviting environment to sit down for lunch. But as they say, don't judge a book by it's cover. Las Asadas' carne asada tacos truly shine. The mix of quality meat, perfectly charred on the grill, cut up into big chunks, topped with ample cilantro and onions. Throw on a little of their salsa verde for an added kick, or go without as the tacos need no additional flavor. An added bonus is the service. They always great you with a smile and promptly take care of your order and get you on your way. It will be a sad day when I move away. Until then, though, I will consume many, many more tacos from this not-so-hidden gem. If you see smoke emanating from the stack, get in quickly as you'll have meat right off the grill. read more

I had been wanting to go here for months, just never got around to it. I finally decided to stop by on Friday night, they had moved locations across the street into a bigger, much nicer place. I talked to one of the employees and he said that he really liked the move, the only problem is that the tiny parking lot next to the building was a mess. He said they were working on fixing it up, so that's good. I had 2 steak tacos and a chicken one, they were AMAZING. Not only were they really good, but it was cheap too- $5 for 3 tacos, great dinner! Both meats were very juicy and delicious.
