OH my goodness. I just went on the biggest internet adventure of my life. I have been so confused for the past 40 minutes because I wanted to review this place but I couldn't remember what the name was. So I searched for "cafe in Andover" and even "cafe bakery" but nothing familiar showed up on searches. And then I began to question whether my memory of my lunch/dessert date with my two best friends last Saturday afternoon was all imagined in my head. And whether Yelping at 2am is really such a good idea. But phew! Not to worry. Mystery solved. I really did devour a humongous bourbon cupcake last week, and my friends really do hang out with me. A simple misunderstanding (and miscategorization, if you ask me). LaRosa's really seems more like a cafe when you first walk in. It has lots of cute dark wooden tables and a few couches to hang around. You pay at the counter but waiters bring you the food. Lots of people coming and going. Lots of sandwich options, but as I already mentioned, there was a bourbon cupcake calling my name. And so I shut it up by eating it. With a fork, in order to be civilized. The height of its bourbon-spiked frosting was greater than the height of its vanilla cake base. The alcoholic flavor was pretty significant and the frosting was very sweet. The cake itself was a bit dry. Best to be shared. My friend ordered the portobello sandwich with roasted veggies, arugula, goat cheese, and balsamic. A good sized sandwich. I took a bite and the flavors melded together in exactly the way they should. Chewy bread. Will be stopping by again! Especially now that I know what the name is. read more

If I'm not mistaken, in the location where LaRosa's now resides, there used to be a French-style sandwich shop and deli. It was an attractive, simple place where you could get a good chicken salad sandwich if you didn't mind shelling it out. I'm not too sure how many iterations the site has witnessed in the last ten, fifteen years, but surely LaRosa's should be its most successful yet. With excellent food, friendly service and a spic-n-span atmosphere, this little Italian eatery easily earns four stars from me with just one visit. For lunch, I ordered the eggplant parm sandwich; I can't help it -- it's one of my favorite dishes. Preparing eggplant so that it's not bitter and frying it lightly so that it's not greasy are testaments to expert skills in the kitchen. LaRosa's demonstrated such skills with a perfect sandwich. The sauce was simple and clean-tasting, not oily or over-seasoned just very, very good. The braided sub roll was a sweet and flavorful surprise with a delicious, chewy crumb. After eating this sandwich, I knew I wanted to review the restaurant, so I ordered a bowl of lobster bisque to-go and an Italian roast coffee. I ate the bisque later with two meals. The soup was thick and smooth, with a heady, buttery, creaminess that, in my opinion, challenged the briny flavor of the lobster. The coffee was perfect, and I'd definitely go back some time for a coffee and cookie from their "Cannoli Corner." The tempting assortment of cupcakes, brownies and Italian cookies to me seemed a bit overkill, but, really, who's complaining. The prices are . . . Andoverish, but with high quality food, you're better off spending more and being satisfied. What a wonderful addition to the Andover downtown food scene. read more

I wish I could eat here every day. The owner Paul creates some killer recipes. The food is incredibly fresh, sandwiches so big you don't know how to eat them at first, and the case in front is full of fresh, healthy options. I usually go with the Salsalitto turkey sandwich and grab a half pint of something in the case. All the salads are made daily too and fill you up. Bolonese is the best I've ever had, and can never go wrong with a cup of soup. They also offer beer and wine and change them up frequently. Staff and owners are amazing. You walk in feeling so welcome, they get really busy especially during the lunch rush so it can be a little hectic, but definitely worth it. Love lovelove this place. read more

La Rosa's is a hidden gem right in plain sight. What appears to be standard, walk up sandwich place, is actually a walk up sandwich place with standards. The food is excellent. Service is prompt. And there is a secret patio around the back where you can BYO-Wine and feel like you're in a little alley cafe in a small European town. I got the steak tip sando with roasted red pepps and onions on an especially soft hoagie roll (French's French roll if I'm not mistaken) so my sammie contents did not go flying across the floor when I took a bite. My girl got the roasted turkey wrap, which was equally impressive. We sat on the patio and drank a couple of Sierras then left completely satisfied at our new find. Definitely worth a try. read more

WOW. Employees are nice enough. Food smelled great. The simple fact the I ordered catering for 11:30 am and was charged $20 for delivery and the food did not arrive until 12:14 approx. 44 min late. I am not impressed with this place. Food ended being mediocre and not worth the $$ I paid. I've been frequenting LaRosa's for three years. This is, hands down, Andover's best sandwich, lunch and casual dinner restaurant. LaRosa's is not a fancy restaurant with table cloths and candles, but a clean attractive casual eatery with comfortable seating, fresh flowers on the table and a limited wine and beer bar. Place your order at the counter, find a table and the food is brought to your table. The staff is wonderfully friendly and accommodating. The menu has a core of standard offering, but always has new, interesting and flavorful offerings. Food creativity and imagination are alive at LaRosa's. Ingredients are fresh. LaRosa's get very crowded around the lunch hour, so get there early for lunch. During warmer weather, there is seating in an intimate outdoor patio. On occasional week nights, LaRosa's turns into a typical fancier restaurant with table cloths, candles, table service and fine wine. I've used LaRosa's a couple of times to prepare catered food for a family gathering and have been delighted. If you're in or near Andover, this is the place for lunch or a relaxed casual evening meal. read more

Can't speak about their customer service because i'm usually too much in a hurry myself to care if they're pushy towards me or not. This is a real gem in downtown Andover. I've had many different delicious lunches here, and I think it is a much better value for the money than other restaurants in the area. I liked the eggplant calzone, and also the garbanzo bean salad. I also tried the ceviche one day and it was delicious. Also loved the ravioli with mushrooms. They serve a really good cup of coffee too. I prefer a strong blend, and this is good. Better than Starbucks IMHO. The ingredients are far higher quality than you find at the sandwich and sub shops in the area. The crust/dough of the calzones is really crusty and tasty. My friend introduced me to this place a couple years ago and I never get the chance to go in as often as I actually want to but I've remembered everything I've gotten and how delicious it always is. I've had their egg plant parm sandwich, this awesome bowl of Brussels sprouts and cabbage in buffalo sauce, Mediterranean orzo salad, sesame lo mein. Their specials are always really fun and unique but still familiar comfort foods. I like this as a grab and go place for lunch if you work in the area because they can sell those dishes I've named in pints to go. But there's also a dining side that's really cute. Ok so I've been here three times when I come to visit the grandson as I like the ambiance. BUT. One - I'm always a single so I eat at the bar. The first time I found a seat and had a nice light pasta with spring veggies- the tortelloni. Started with the arancini which were really good. And the service at the bar was ok. Somewhat distracted. Second time the place was packed and i was met by the young "Maitre d" with attitude so I left my number and went across the street to their sister restaurant La Fina for a drink while I waited. No one ever called me... I finally walked over and lo and behold there were numerous bar seats open. Had a decent dinner - don't remember what I ordered. So tonight I decided to try them again. Wednesday night 7:30 - after work folks gone. Got a seat at the bar. Same bartender who seems more focused on cleaning up and going home (or talking to single young women) than selling drinks or food. Anyway. Got a lovely burrata and tomato salad which was great. Then ordered the amatriciana pasta. Pasta was over cooked. Flavor was ok. Lots of chilis and not much else. Guanciale was hard to find... Had to flag the bartender down for a second glass of wine. Tried to order takeout for my daughter at 8:33 but was told the kitchen was closed at 8:30. Wouldn't that have been important info to impart at 7:45 when I was contemplating my dinner choices???? Good Sandwiches. Especially love the steak tip. BUT the customer service is not up to par. I walked in the girl in the front was not pleasant at all, she just stared at me , no smile nothing made me feel a little uncomfortable. I called to order and the guy who answers was very dry and was being a bit rude. Did not repeat my order and hung up before I can even ask for the total. I like the food there but because of the customer service I won't be referring or going there again. Somebody who lives in Andover recommended the place so called and spoke with Paul who was extremely helpful and willing to assist given the circumstances. When I spoke with Paul, it was the lunch rush, and I could hear the business over the phone. Placed the order in the late morning for a 4PM delivery. Everything worked out great! We have been going to LaRosa's since it opened. A family favorite is the Angry Sicilian and today we added the delicious Tuscan Tuna sandwich. I've rated this place two stars because I had a terrible eggplant parm sandwich today-worst I've ever had anywhere. The roll, sauce and cheese were all good: the eggplant was inedible. It was grossly undercooked and clearly not fried. My personal preference is that eggplant is peeled but others may disagree -this was not peeled and the edges were tough and bitter. Even worse, I requested sauce on the side because I hate soaked sandwiches yet there was so much sauce added directly to the sandwich it ruined the nicely toasted roll by the time I had taken a couple of bites. I had to throw it away. This place is very popular, conveniently located and has some wonderful food. If you go, avoid the eggplant. read more

I work around the corner from LaRosas- I've had some great sandwiches here but I have to say I'm very disappointed in the salads I've had. I've tried them multiple times over the course of months, and each and every time I've had lettuce which is nearly all wilted. Either you guys don't wash your greens or you don't keep them cold, either way it's unacceptable. If you are paying almost $15 for a salad, it should be top notch. I am hoping management reads this review and makes a change, as a former waitress I know what it takes to present customers with fresh food. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I get the salads to go..but I think regardless you should be serving nothing but fresh greens. read more

La Rosa's has two different restaurants in it. One of them is a little but fancy inside and there's another one outside that's more casual. I had eggplant parm which was delicious I was super hungry but I definitely don't think it was made fresh. I'm pretty positive they reheated the frozen ones they were selling st the counter. How LaRosa's does not have a perfect 5 star is beyond me! I've never had anything besides the best meals that always keep me coming back for more. We typically eat at their cafe where they have tons of salads, sandwiches, pastas and daily made sides in their case. There's always something new depending on my mood for the day (highly suggest the arugula salad with lemon basil dressing *drool*) last weekend we decided to eat at the Bar for the first time in all the years we have been going to LaRosa's. The evening started with their fresh made bread with the best tasting, authentic olive oil. We then ordered the crab cake with a corn relish that had so much crab and very little breading-highly suggest!
