Larimer square is quite historic, or so the plaques on the old brick wall tell me. I actually didn't really know about this place until I stumbled upon it from Writer's squares (lots of squares in this hip part of town if you ask me), but was glad I did. This little block has a great feel to it, from the nice brick-layering to the music... They were actually playing down-tempo trip-hop!?? WOAH! Finally glad that people are realizing that classic rock is not the cure-all ambiance setter that people think it is. The shops here were decent, excluding The Market coffee and sandwich shop, which was excellent, and the Cry Baby Ranch, which was just absurd. Eh. Beautiful-yes. A hidden gem-sure. But for a couple of college kids that expected to see Denver's true vibes and culture--it wasn't satisfying at all. It looked expensive and it felt expensive. We ended up just walking around in awe of the place but in all honesty, it was a tiny square that could be seen in any other city. If you have the money to spend and family with you, this might be the place to drink and dine but it wasn't as lively as I thought it would be for a couple of tourists. read more

I love Larimer Square! It's 1 of those places you'd take out-of-towners to for a taste of Denver. I prefer going there at night when you can enjoy all of their hanging lights. It is also nice during Christmas time when there are garlands that accompany those hanging lights. Larimer Square offers bars, boutiques and restaurants. It's a great place to visit during restaurant week when you can get special discounted meals at fancier restaurants. You can also walk to a lot of places from Larimer Square. It's next to 16th St. Mall and is also walkable from the LoDo (?) area where Little Man's Ice Cream is. Parking can be difficult but what kind of a downtown would it be if that were not the case? read more

Came to Denver in search of its history. The Larimer area was of interest to me so we drove around, found a few historic buildings but the city is just awful. Drunks or druggies literally lying on the sidewalks. Welcoming graffiti reading things like "cop killa" and such. Hard time finding a parking garage, instead small and overpriced parking lots. The L Square area was just another "trendy" area to get average but pricey food and beer. The ultimate slap were the Keep Colorado Clean signs when the city seems to be anxious to make it dirty and dangerous. Signs reminding people to clean up after their dogs but I guess human mess isn't encouraging vermin. Not to tourist-friendly. read more

On the one hand, I love how this area looks, and it has so many great restaurants and shops. On the other hand, it is a cluster to drive through, and not much better to walk through. Now that there are multiple valet stops, on both sides of the street, in the 1 block stretch of Larimer between 15th and 14th, it is a constant traffic jam of cars pulling in, pulling out, or randomly stopped in the middle of the street. Add to this people hopping in and out of cars, people darting across the street rather than walking to the crosswalk, etc. etc. etc. It is pretty close to utter chaos. Yet, somehow despite all this, this street always seems to have a festive air. I think leaving up lights (not quite holiday lights) year round encourages this. As I mentioned previously there are more great places in this small geographic area than probably any other place in Denver. Just to name some of them . . . Bistro Vendome,The Capital Grille, Corridor 44, Cru - A Wine Bar, Euclid Hall Bar & Kitchen, The Market, Ocean Prime, Osteria Marco, Rioja, Russell's Smokehouse, TAG,TAG Raw Bar, Tamayo, Ted's Montana Grill, Tom's Urban 24, and Wednesday's Pie. And that is without even mentioning the clubs and bars. read more

Larimer Square is one of my favorite blocks in downtown Denver. It houses an exceptional round up of cuisines, from French (Bistro Vandome) to Italian (Osteria Marco), extending to barbecue (Russell's Smokehouse), steakhouse (The Capital Grille) and seafood (Ocean Prime). Maybe craving a fresh sandwich? Larimer Square has it covered, check out The Market. The festive block is home to very popular summer events like the Denver Chalk Art Festival in June and the Dinning Al Fresco once a month, July through September. Parking can be a challenge, but reasonably priced valet service is available with validation at most of the restaurants. Great choices for any meal of the day, or even a simple coffee. It's probably one of the classiest blocks in town, with hanging string bulb lights spanning the street, extending the length of the block. The street view has a charm to it, especially at night. Excellent choice for any occasion including a splurge at any of the following must tries, in no particular order: The Capital Grille, Rioja, Ocean Prime or Tag. When hosting visitors or business dinners, we usually end up at one of the above. Denver is full of neighborhoods and city blocks that offer similar experiences, and this block ranks in the top five on my list, specifically for fine dining. read more

An enjoyable urban space which, in most cities, would be called a pedestrian mall. Here, between the buses (free) and the utility repair trucks, it would be unwise to step off the curb without looking. We walked from the area near Coors Field to the Denver Library, Pioneer's Monument and Colorado State Capital building. Our walk passed some interesting public statues and art, restaurants and bars from swank to swarmy, a huge and fascinating book store, a wide spectrum of retailing and a lot of interesting people-watching. Of particular note was the display, in the Denver Hard Rock Cafe, of the typewriter that Dr. Hunter S. Thompson shot a bullet through. Metered parking on 15th street was easy, and the experience was fun. read more

Oh Denver. Look at how cute you are, trying to be all historically trendy and everything. Adorable. LS can be the place to be. Kind of. It's not that big, but chances are you'll pass through this area when you're anywhere downtown, especially if you're a student at the Auraria campus. It's a great place to walk through. Try to avoid the clipboard holders standing at the edge, rambling about whatever the cause of the week is. They spot you and won't let you through. Always people out sipping their coffee, eating their meals, or enjoying their gelato. Kind of awkward as you walk by and drool as you smell their food (yah, I'm usually on my way to lunch when I pass through). Great for people watching or just having an atmospheric stroll near all the trendy bars, clubs, and restaurants. Decent, upscale shops. Not much for men, but lots of stores for women. No stores worth giving that much of a shout out to. After venturing to Denver for the Yelp Elite event at Euclid Hall last Sunday, I looked up the history of this delightful block in downtown Denver known as Larimer Square. According to a few sources of information on the 'net, this block contains some of the oldest buildings in Denver. Some of these buildings were built before there even WAS a city of Denver. I grew up in Denver but live in Boulder County now. So I am not here very often. On Sunday I walked through Larimer Square with a friend on the way to Euclid Hall. And I remembered all the vibrant businesses that I miss--from long ago. The Flick Theatre is the one I miss the most. Saw so many good movies there. It's where I saw Harold and Maude when the movie was first released. Great place. The restaurants I miss are: Josephina's, The Bratskellar, Royal Platte River Yacht Club, and the Magic Pan. I think Lafitte's was closeby Larimer Square too, not on the actual block. I miss a marvelously unique gallery that was on the block parallel to the square, on Blake Street, called Rasputin, too. There was really no such thing as a yuppie...back then the term had not yet been coined....there were all different sorts of people who spent time at Larimer Square. At night there tended to be more people there to drink and party, probably a bit like it seems to still be now. Larimer Square continues to be a well-managed & maintained shopping area and a well-preserved historic district. I'm glad after all these years to find it still thriving! P.S. Larimer Square, I'm conflicted. On the one hand, you have some great restaurants and bars and events. On the other hand, there are the douchebags. I know, I know, the idiots walking around in Larimer Square aren't your fault and you can't get rid of them, but they really ruin the experience when I'm hanging out in that area at night on the weekends. But I'm not going to let a bunch of arseholes ruin the burgeoning soft spot I'm developing for you, Larimer Square. Thanks for being equally beautiful in the day or at night. Those lights you have strung up across the street create the most lovely romantic mood that a city street can possibly have. You make a lady want to get kissed the minute they turn on. After said kiss, I know I have a ton of great options for food or drink when I walk your street, from Euclid Hall to the Green Russell. The chances I'll be disappointed are slim to none. When I'm not kissing, eating or drinking on your streets, I can enjoy the cute little boutiques or maybe you have a cool event going on, like the Chalk Art Festival or LoDo Bites. So yeah, let's keep this thing we've got going on here. I'll continue to ignore the fact that you're overrun with drunken frat boys and princesses at night on the weekends and you continue to provide me with some of the best drinking and dining in Denver. read more

One of my favorites areas of LoDo. Stroll through the neighborhood, smell the delicious food, window shop, and stop in for a good cup of coffee at a local coffee joint. It's a historical section of Denver, so you get to see modern fashion and life mixed with a blend of the old wild west with the architecture of the buildings and old fashioned street lamps. Now that I live in San Diego, Larimer Square reminds me of the Gaslamp District in downtown SD. read more

Fairly easy to get to, the shuttle drops you right off. Lots of bistro style restaurants and cafes that offer plenty al fresco seating. Several boutique shops offering higher end merchandise. It's very busy and buzzing. I would have enjoyed eating at one of the restaurants here, but it was soo packed everywhere! But it's a nice place to take a date or just meet up with friends to catch up. Definitely worth taking a peek at. read more

Larimer Square is a really classy, really serene place to hang out. The atmosphere is nice and calm, and the street decor is absolutely adorable. It can be a bit pricey in this area, though, so be cautious of that, but there's never a shortage of things to do or see. Definitely a place to visit when you're in town. read more

Cute, historic street. Perfect for a little stroll or window shopping, but most (or all?) of the shops are very high end. I was here on vacation and didn't even venture into any of them because they were definitely out of my league. It only takes a few minutes to walk up and down the street, so not really something to go out of your way for, but if you're in the area, it's a cute spot. read more

I guess Larimer Square is also an area that was never really up my alley because I never felt inclined to spend much time here. I do realize it is a historical area of town and that there are restaurants here that look good but I never really got the urge to try any of them. There was a really cool clothing store that I discovered on my first venture to Larimer Square but since it has long bit the dust. It is very pretty how they have the strings of lights strung over the top of the street. Otherwise to me it is just another part of downtown where there is lots of restaurants and bars where people can get sufficiently smashed from copious amounts of alcohol. read more

The most memorable place for me when I came to Denver. Although it's really just one block that's decorated nicely with lights and butterfly kites, I thought it was so beautiful, especially at night. It was a little sleepy when I went on a Thursday night, but there are a ton of bars and restaurants here to check out, and it's a close proximity to other shopping in the area. My favorite place to go downtown, hands down! Yes it's pricey and uppity but I love it. Pick any of the restaurants on this street and you are in for a local treat (minus Capital Grill and Ocean Prime as these are chains, but still great!). The art galleries here are amazing and the little boutiques are full of things that you didn't even know you needed. Make sure and explore the arcades on the street, you will never know what you find. Also make sure and see this street at night with all the lights strung up, what a beautiful sight! read more

This place did have interesting historic buildings but it was only 1 block long not very big. There are shops & restaurants here. This was blocked off so no traffic was allowed. You could sit outside and people watch and get something to eat. When I read about it, I got the impression it was more blocks so I was disappointed with that aspect. read more

This place looked just like the pictures...Christmas lights hanging above and many boutiques and eateries along the sidewalk. This Square is located right at the end of 16th Street Mall so you can easily access it from directions. There's also a nice free mall tram if you don't feel like walking down 16th Street. Parking is available on the streets with meters or you can opt for a parking garage. We chose a parking garage and I expected to pay $20 but it was only $6-- good surprise! Overall, this was a pleasant place to visit and didn't break the bank! read more

Larimer Square is one of my favorite spots in Colorado. It's always gorgeous after dark with all the string lights and banners and I've never had a bad meal at any of the restaurants there. The Market is one of my favorite bakeries, Tag was stellar during restaurant week a few years back, and Osteria Marco brings me back to Italy. Larimer Square is a great photo op if you're passing through the area, and the vibe at night is super romantic, so it's a perfect spot for date night. Parking is tricky, but there are some lots nearby if you can't find a metered spot. Pro tip: free parking on Sundays! This is definitely worth going out of your way to visit, especially if you're from out of town. It's a Denver landmark and once you're there, you're also close to a ton of other fun downtown spots! read more
